So who's buying this today?

I'll be tempted to buy if the controls really are better then previous RE titles.

I wonder how many of these threads we're gonna get?

I'm gonna pass for now, because i just dropped over $600 on my Xbox 360, but i plan on picking it up somewhere down the road.

I think the control scheme on the PS2 is gonna be a bit odd, and the prospect of muddy graphics and longer load times doesn't really appeal to me, but honestly i just can't pass up that new campaign.

Assignment Ada was pretty fun on it's own, but since the new sub mission actually helps to explain a few occurences in the main game i really want it. just not till i can afford it.

Count me in... I've been dying to replay RE4 and this will probably be the best way to do it... with all the extras... :)

And again RE4 plays nothing like previous RE games(control wise) so do yourself a favor and try it out... the control scheme is very good compared to what a lot of people complained about the previous RE games... personally I didn't find the old control scheme bad just took some getting used to...

After classes, RE4 is mine, for PS2, even though I have the GC.

I don't care, I want Ada's bonus stuff.

Hmm, let's see...I played this game... 10 months ago. And it was great.

Why is it just getting a thread now? The PS2 version sucks.

It looks and plays like shit, with worse graphics, a terrible control scheme, and longer load times. The "extras" are gimmicks that were tacked on and are simply average.

The PS2 version is crippled.

So sayeth the videogame equivalent of a Racist.

I'll wager all my meseta that you haven't played the PS2 version and you're basing your conclussions on your personal biases.

You know nothing of the extras, nothing of the controls and you don't even know how bad the load times are. We've been through this three times already so knock it off.

The bottom line is that until we play the game we won't really know if it's good or not. I think the new mission is gonna be good and you don't. That's fine because it's just opinion, but don't go shouting that the PS2 version sucks as if it were fact.

Get off your fucking Soap Box, go pick up the game and give it an honest shot and don't just assume it's shit because it's on the PS2. Then and only then, can you make a comment like you just did.

The PS2 controller sucks. Any game released for the system will instantly have shitty controls.

I've played it on a friend's PS2. Everything I said is true.

Lt's see what actual forum members think here before we condemn it, shall we?

Also could someone give me a comparision between the new control scheme for 4 and the previous RE titles?

You're making a good reputation for yourself Xizer.

After being able to try it, I think it's a very nice port that is as enjoyable as the GC version was.

I was gonna say the same thing this guy said.
He has the right to his own opinion.

If your asking us what we think, or if we reviewed the game . Im gonna tell you that it's pretty sad that sony did'nt release this when the gamecube did.

NOW , if sony wants to release SNATCHER or POLICENAUTS (god forbid) IN ENGLISH for the psx2 ,I would be intrested.

Sorry to go off topic but... PS2 controller sucks?!

IMHO it's the best controller of this generation of consoles... That's just what I think though...

You're absolutlety right he does have the right to an opinion, however there is a catch. If you choose to voice you're opinion in a public forum then you must be willing to accept cirticism.

Given Xizers past and his rep, i think my criticism about the validity of his statements was justified.

It is pretty sad that CAPCOM (not Sony. They had no say in the matter) didn't release this game when they released the GC version however, in the long run i think Capcom is gonna sell far more copies this way.

They managed to get people to go out and buy a GC and then and then now they've added more so that people who already bought it will go out and get it again and people who didn't will still pick it up for the first time.

Besides the director of RE4 said he'd cut off his own head if it was ever ported to the PS2. Yet here we are.

I just got my copy today and....WOW, You can't tell the differences at all in the graphics, they are gorgeous. The controls are just like the 'Cube version except that menu is the Start button. I can see why this game got a 10 rating at 1up.com

You are aware that the titles you mentioned are not published by Sony, right?

On topic.. I still have not played RE4. I will eventually, and need to decide whether or not I get it on the Cube or the PS2. My gaming backlog is getting huge(damn Anarchy Online) and I have no idea when I will get caught up, so this will have to wait.

Yes they were, both games came out for the PS2 but never made it to the states son. for christ sakes haha
i would like to see policenauts in english lol.

If you never played RE before, then yeah you have a choice.
But me being a gamer was ALL OVER IT on release date.
Shooting at the lake and getting snuck by the mutant alligator.. Picking off zombies with a sniper rifle, the works.

Maybe he just has different hands than the rest of us. Personally I love the PS2 controller and find it to be one of the best designs ever IMO. Hell of a lot better than what I grew up with, those damn NES pads gave me blisters.

All Sony does is make a system and whore it out to casual gamers, they don't even develop many games
Sony is the one who deserves a $ sign - with their constant shitting out consoles
What? The PS2 did suck ass.
The PS2 sucked cock, just like the PS1.

The PS3 will suck.

Madame Cloey predicts, "The signs are dark my love. Your future on this board is short dearie." (just joking) Can you lay off the anti-Sony hatred? Please? It's disruptive. Thank you.

SOLD my cube, because I was BORED with it. Pretty graphics are great But the games were MEDIOCRE. Gameplay matters more to me than shiny T&A.

So cube is gone - replaced with N64 - and PS2 is my only choice for RE4.

Thank you for your honest review.
Will buy it after the post-christmas markdown to $30.

And apparently half the Japanese population are racists, because they don't like the Xbox 360 since it is a foreign console.

No they were NOT published by SONY. Those are both Konami games, published by Konami for what ever systems they choose. SONY does not publish them.

Alright, I've gotten to the 'Holding up the house" scene, and I must say, these games LOOK drastically different.

But, I don't care, this version plays well, and the premium edition case fucking rocks. All good with me.

Anyways, on to the differences!

Control-wise, PS2 version is fine, the analog sticks were fantastic, which blew me away because I hate the PS2 controller in comparison to the GC.

Now, what's hilarious is that the cutscenes in the game are actually FMV's of the GC's in-game engine cut scenes. The graphical jump you sometimes notice between the video and gameplay in PS2, is huge. Seriously, just wait til you see it sometimes.

Also, the night time portions so far in the PS2 version are pretty bad. You have a 'light', but it does nothing because there is NO darkness covering up anything. You can see fine in the dark.

So, remember when people were saying the games looked ALMOST the same? Well, they did, when comparisons were based on the first levels only. Now that I have gotten further, you can easily tell how limited the PS2 is compared to the GC.

But wait, I don't give a shit because the game is still bloody fantastic.

Hm...I had assumed I would be missing some good debate by not being around...(@ page one of this thread) LOL

To clear up the confusion, here's some direct comparison screenshots (http://ruliweb3.dreamwiz.com/ruliboard/read.htm?main=ps&table=img_screen_con&page=1&num=8547&find=&ftext=&left=h&time=) to look at.

Many details are missing in the PS2 version, i.e. fog and the broken glass under Leon's feet when he lands on the ground after jumping out the second story window of the first house/cabin. The trees are smaller! They did add a bloodstain onto the outside wall of the cabin with the impaled woman inside...I guess after 10 months it'd have enough time to soak in; still a rather cheesy effect.

The new costumes are...ahh...unusual. The Thompson looks like hell now, in my opinion, and the drum magazine really isn't helping showcase the PS2's abilities. I personally still feel they should've made this gun use real ammo to give it some use in gameplay.

Palettes are different; mostly worse. Gone are the dark bits near the roots of Leon's hair; his hair's uniformly brown; the ground cover in the forest is uniformly brown, and the screenshots here look much more brown. On the other hand, the stone texture on the tower in the village (screenshot with the impaled Policeman being roasted) doesn't have any of those distracting color splotches seen in the GC version, and it's now actually just gray.

When you get right down to it, though, this game reportedly has 20+ extra hours of content in the form of a mission for Ada. That's very, very nice.

In my opinion, there's no reason why a diehard RE fan shouldn't get this game, lack of a PS2 be damned (surely the PS3 supports this game!) Certainly it would give a companion piece for that GameStop "Limited Edition" red tin.

Mine's great, except it saw a few battles in the store where it was (last copy; I got the one with the shrinkwrap that'd been on the shelf; haven't taken it out since I got all the goodies seperately anyway) :P

This bit about the cutscenes being from the GC version...well, I'll wait to see that. I'll feel right at home, of course. :)
