for awhile i got interested in the concept of "circuit bending." if you're unfamiliar with the term, basically you get some cheap sound making electronic device (like a speak n spell, keyboard, simon, etc), open it up, and then start purposefully creating short circuits in an attempt to coax new sounds out of them. typically one of the first things you do is add an audio out jack so that you can run the device through an amplifier, adding distortion etc.
so i was thinking about this while looking at the guts of my asteroids machine the other day and had the idea to add an audio out jack. it's a cocktail so i could easily mount it on the bottom of the cabinet where it would be completely out of view. i don't ever plan on selling the machine so keeping it 100% bone stock wouldn't be an issue for me either. basically my idea was to add a switch so that you could play the sound through the speaker normally, or switch it to the jack. from there you could run it to your home stereo (using an rca jack) or possibly even better, through a set of headphones (using a 1/4 phono jack). i love the way this machine's booming sound fills the room when i'm playing, but my wife goes to bed early.
wondering if anyone has ever done this or anything similar. thoughts?
