Howdy,

I've been playing Riviera on GBA and I'm really enjoying it. To all the RPGamers, what portable RPGs do you recommend?

I'm assuming Golden Sun is a no brainer. Not too interested in Pokemon.

Doesn't have to be GBA either.

Thanks!
Ben

This doesn't work. The Game Gear can only access memory for games up to 2 megabits in size and the original PS has 4. When I tried doing this, the graphics come out all glitchy. While they are very similar, the internal architecture of the GG and SMS are not identical.

Get yourself copies of Breath of Fire 1 & 2 for GBA and let the joy overflow within you.

And dammit, I say this to everyone, but you should really find some way, any way to try out Golden Sun before you buy it. I still personally think It's one of the worst RPG's I've ever played, and I've played me a lot of RPG's. But then again, I seem to be in the minority on that one. :/

I reccomend the following:

-Any Castlevania on GBA (I liked Aria of Sorrow the best, but all three are good)
-Any Mega Man Battle Network games (GBA, I haven't played all four (five?) of them but pf the ones I have played have been very similar)
-Lufia (Game Boy COLOR version, far better than the GBA version, IMO)
-Final Fantasy Adventure (GB, the original version of Sword of Mana, which is also a good choice)
- And if you really like strategy games, Onimusha Tactics is not better than Fire Emblem or even FFTA by far, but still worth a try.

Unless they've changed radically from the SNES versions, my response would be: yuck. BOF1, at least, is so tedious that I did not spend much time with the second one (although this retranslation project (http://bof2.blogspot.com/) looks most intriguing).

Not sure if i'll get kicked in the butt for this one...but....

Final Fantasy I & 2 Dawn of Souls

Strongly suggest Lunar, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga.

I'd say stay away from Sword of Mana if possible. Wasn't my cup of tea.

Shining Force II: The Sword of Hyaja (Game Gear)

Good call, and on that same note the Shining Force remake for GBA was really good.

Both the Fire Emblems are great, as is Shining Force. Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow has some RPG elements to it, FF: Dawn of Souls, FF 4 & 5 are coming out in December, Legend of Zelda 1 and 2 for the Classic NES Series, Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga, Onimusha Tactics, etc... those are all games I vastly enjoyed (and plan to enjoy) on the GBA.

I've never played Cima, but it looked interesting too. You might wanna check that out. Last I remember Game Crazy had it on budget, like $10 or $15 new.
