Blizzard has been enforcing that rule since Diablo 2 LOD came out.

The no recourse, no contact is what really creeps me out. Although, if I were him I would have chancged it to something similar, but something I could get away with, like C. Taco, or Commandeer Taco (an imperative statement, not a title).

I just got some really funny thoughts about someone comandeering a taco on the high seas! LOL LOL

Commandeer Taco?
Common Deer Taco
C'mon, Dear, Taco!
Konan de Taco
Kommandant Taco

...I'll stop now.

He probably meant it to mean Commander. However "CMDR" is actually the U.S. Navy abbreviated the rank of Commodore. A commander would be a "CDR". Personally I would go with Commodore since that means a higher rank, and who's going to say no to a promotion?

I know this a nitpicky post. But I spent 3 years on a Navy ship so it's kinda hard to let things like this just go by...

Have you ever played diablo 2? They don't care what you name yourself. Diablo 2 is literally unmoderated.

Sorry to hear that. It's pretty lame that they don't even have that rank in their system and you still have to change it.

I agree with Anagrama on the point that the Slashdotter appears to be whining a bit on the subject, but I agree with the Slashdotter on a couple of points:

-The GM hid behind a false name...a false "face," as it were. Upon demand from the customer(you are a CUSTOMER when you pay a monthly fee to play a game), a GM should be required to give a real name along with an employee ID in case of complaint, or even praise.

-Yes, after doing numerous support requests(I do so for a gaming ladder system, I know this), you do tend to just pass people over. "Problem fixed, have a nice day," becomes a copy/paste to people rather quickly.

I wish I hadn't, but yes I did. Thank goodness I just said did and not do!

They stop you in Diablo 2 by using a filter at the character creation screen. I'm not sure if it would catch Cmdr, but go ahead and try to name yourself something like king, queen, captain, ext. I'm just saying Bliz has had similar odd policies for quite some time.
