View Full Version : Why PS2 Manuals are Awesome

OK, activity time! Take a random PS2, Xbox, and Cube manual from your assorted stacks of games. Why does the PS2 manual clearly kick the butt of the other two? On most manuals I've seen, the PS2 logo doesn't get displayed on the manual cover, while the Xbox and Gamecube versions have big, bold labels on the top and side, respectively. So... would you consider PS2 owners to get the "unadultered picture" of a multiplatform game? Couldn't Publishers like EA make only 1 version of its manual with all the control sets contained within in order to save money? Just a thought.

Manual?
What's that?
Haven't read a manual since my Atari days! LOL (And Atari had the coolest manuals - second only to activision)

I always read manuals, mostly for something to do on the can.
As for the multiplatform books, I'm sure they would save a little coin, but I don't think the console companies would like the competition's logos in their products.

Me too! LOL As far as the multiplatforms, they obviously have to change the controls and the "how to load your game" tutorials, so I doubt the cover is that big a deal.

It's worth noting that some PS2 Manuals do contain a Sony logo. Just go take a look at Shadow of the Collussus.

Read your manuals on the can....ha! Where do you think I get the time to post here on digitpress? :P
But yeah, for the most part, at the rate EA is going, anyway to save them money, they will do it. I mean, their manuals are already 5 pages long as it is...so I could see a multi-platform manual coming out sometime soon.

ditto.
The one nice thing about Gamecube manuals is that they actually fit in the Blockbuster cases. I've bought quite a few used games from Gamerush/Blockbuster (they run great deals sometimes) and the ps2 manuals get shoved in there and bent and whatnot. really annoying.
Other than that I usually judge a manual per game rather than per system. ALA is it color? etc.
