Ohhhhh snap. The classic Model 2 arcade game from 2005 is getting ported.

Apparently it's going to be included with the first batch of Sega Rally 2006 for PS2. I assume that means it's going to be part of the Sega Ages 2500 series, and it will be included as a bonus (kind of like the MAT3 + LA Rush deal here in the US). In any case, this will be sweet.

Awesome news but what is the GT Force Pro? Is that the japanese version of the Driving Force Pro wheel?

Could be. The name in that announcement is the only info we've got so far. If I'm not mistaken, the Driving Force wheels weren't released in Japan, just the original GT Force. I could be completely wrong on that, though.
Now let's hope some other Model 2 games (I'm looking at you Daytona) find their way to the PS2 as well.

MMMMMMMMM I LUVED THE SATURN VERSION :eek 2:
Perfect control, great graphics, damn I miss that game DAMN I MISS MY SATURN PERIOD :(
Sega Rally 2 on Dreamcast was one of maybe 2 of the ONLY let-downs that I experienced with the Dreamcast. It just DID NOT HOLD UP TO THE SATURN PORT-wich I believe was ported by the gods at AM2-right?
Hopefull this PS2 port will be faithful to the original arcade version or even the Saturn Ver.

I honestly doubt it, I mean NO ONE seemed to buy Daytona USA (AKA Daytona USA 2001) on the Dreamcast. However a collection of Sega arcade modern classics would rock, stuff like...
Sega Rally Championship
Cyber Troopers VirtualOn Operation Moongate
MANX TT SuperBike
Sky Target (deserved more than the shakey Japanese Saturn port)
Daytona USA
Daytona 2 (didn't like it that much but still)
Daytona 2 Battle on the Edge (with the original Hornet car)
Sega Super GT / SCUD Race
and so forth...
Ah, one can dream.

Actually during the XBox's first year I had some vendor TBA game release lists and "Daytona 3" was on it starting with the list about three months after the XBox launch and never dissapeared from it for an entire year. Nothing ever came of it however. (those documents may be sold to a DP member soon) This would NEVER get an XBox release because...
1. Microsoft has jumped ship on XBox promotion and development, they started two years ago (aside from Halo 2) if you didn't notice.
2. Sega games DO NOT SELL on Microsoft consoles. Jet Set Radio Future did so poorly that it became a pack-in for awhile. Gun Valkyrie lined bargain bins a month after it was released. And Panzer Dragoon Orta barely had a dent made in it sales wise. Where as Virtua Fighter 4 made bank for both Sega and Sony on the PS2.
MMMMMMMMM I LUVED THE SATURN VERSION :eek 2:

Should check out the Japanese Saturn release (came out after the US release) Just as the Japanese version of Daytona Circuit Edition, it's far superior to it's American counterpart. The US release was rushed out and ended up unfinished. The Japanese version has all the onscreen gauges and display information missing from the US release.

Figured I'd resurrect this thread since the game has been released in Japan and I happen to have picked it up. Nice deluxe box with separate cases for Sega Rally 2006 & Sega Rally 1995.
First, the conversion of Sega Rally 1995. Arcade exact as far as I can tell. Even has the boot up screen in the beginning. Seems to be much better than the Sega Ages versions of VF 2 & Fighting Vipers. It is important to note that it is a straight up conversion. Pressing start takes you to the course select screen just like the arcade. There are no options to speak of, nor a two player mode.
Despite the lack of options of any sort, this is well worth it if you are a rabid fan like I am. The game looks pretty dated actually, but plays just as fast and furious as it always has, with perfect analog control to boot. Actually, seeing this version on my TV makes me even further realize how truly great the Saturn version was. They truly captured the arcade game in a way totally analogous to the PSX version of the original Ridge Racer. The Saturn version actually doesn't look all that different from the arcade original when racing. Having only had the privelege of playing the arcade version less than 5 times, I am super satisfied.
Now for Sega Rally 2006. It is exactly what the title says, nothing more, nothing less. This is an arcade tuned racing experience. Control is right on the money. There are basic arcade and time attack modes in addition to a somewhat in depth, menu heavy career mode. I need to work a little harder to decipher the all Japanese menus, but it seems pretty self explanatory. Once nice feature of the arcade mode is that the 4th level is actually a full-on redux of the original's 3 courses, only running in the new game's engine with remixed versions of the original music. A bit redundant considering the bonus disc, but cool to say the least.
There is no two player mode. This is a bit of a letdown, but I don't have many friends who would play this anyway. This purchase was squarely for myself.
The sound is mediocre, unfortunately lacking any of the ridiculous "Fiiiiiiiinnnnishhh" and "Game Over Yeaaaahhh" flourishes, but you get those on the 1995 disc. The navigator is a bit muffled in this version, to sound more realistic, but I would have rather had the announcer-esque sound of the original. Car sound effects aren't too exciting, but sound like Sega Rally.
Graphically, the game is pretty shabby actually. The frame rate is relatively solid (no DC Sega Rally 2 stuttering), but there is a disheartening amount of pop up, a scourge I thought we had all but licked in this generation. It is actually a bit sad, due to the fact that games like GT4 and Colin McRae 03 are doing so much more graphically and lack said issue. The 1995 original actually has much less in the way of pop up than the 2006 game! The cars do look nice though and any game which lets me drive a Subaru Impreza WRX pre-redesign is alright by me.
So, a member of the game's target audience has posted a quick overview. All of the online gaming news sites have been very hard on this game, but again they have missed the point. Despite its graphical issues, this is a Sega Rally game through and through. Simplicity is its greatest draw for me. If I want something more realistic, I'll play Colin McRae 2005 on XBox. Apples and oranges really. If you are a fan of rally racing or this series in general, you need to pick this up.

Yeah, the audio and the questionable game balancing in career mode are my biggest gripes. Overall, though, it's quite an enjoyable game, with a ton of courses, and all the favorite cars from the series.
And there are some options you can tweak in the Sega Rally 95 port. Just hit Select at the title screen. I've also heard you can enable 480p progressive scan mode (but not in SR06) by holding X and Triangle while booting. I haven't tried this yet.

Awesome news but what is the GT Force Pro? Is that the japanese version of the Driving Force Pro wheel?
I think Logitech is making a wheel just for Sega Rally 2006.

The GT Force Pro in the special boxed set is just a Japanese version of the Driving Force Pro that's had the Gran Turismo logo on the wheel hub replaced with a Sega Rally logo. They changed the name since I don't think the original Driving Force was released in Japan (correct me if I'm wrong), so it's kind of the next step up from the original GT Force over there. The force feedback motor in this thing will rip your fucking arms off, by the way.

I very nearly ordered 2006 just for the bonus disc but nixed it during check out because I wanted to find out how the conversion went, first.
Is there any indication that this is coming out in the US? If not, then I may very well throw it back in my shopping cart for my next order.

I haven't heard any word on a US release, and judging from Famitsu's review scores (something like 6/6/7/7), I wouldn't expect SR06 to come out here real quick. Though I certainly wouldn't have rated it quite that harshly, it definitely doesn't deserve 10s across the board, either. But the inclusion of the absolutely beautiful SR95 port makes it all worth it, especially if you've got a good wheel. ;-)
Who knows, both of them might show up in the US at some point, possibly even as a budget or $30 release or something, but I wouldn't base your purchasing plans on that assumption.

udging from Famitsu's review scores
Famitsu scores hold about equal weight with me as Gamepro scores. Both are equally worthless publications :)
Guess I'll throw the sucker in my shopping cart. I've got the Japanese Saturn version, but $65 for an arcade perfect version of Sega Rally and it comes with a free bonus Sega Rally 2006 disc? Yes, please. :)

Just played the Jp Saturn rev again and must say that, though it still remains a fond memory, I will most likely never put any real time into it again.

Heh, I was just playing that this weekend. ;-) It's nice to have it on hand in case you want to run the Stratos, or do Practice mode on the 4th course, or do vs. mode, or the other few extras in the Saturn version (like the even more kick-ass music), but the graphics and control of the PS2 port beat the pants off the Saturn one. And that's saying something, because the Saturn one was already damned good in both regards.
I wonder if there's some code for the PS2 one to unlock the Stratos and the 4th course in Practice mode. I think the arcade version had them, but the codes involve putting in combinations with the gear shift, and that doesn't exactly translate directly to sequential shift levers. If the codes are still in here, they've evidently changed them.

I HOPE that this is released in the U.S. @_@ if only for a perfect arcade port of Sega Rally '95.
If they release it here in the U.S. it BETTER HAVE THE SECOND '95 dic or I will resort to ummm well I will be pissed
I agree with the above posters about a collection of the old Sega arcade games for the PS2 I WOULD KILL FOR JUST A DAYEEEETONA and Sega Rally '95 and VF2 arcade perfect port collection.
Hell I even liked Sega Classics collection so there :P
