I'm new to the whole C=64 scene so you tell me!

Note: The monitor has free shipping that's why I bought it.
It depends on how hard it is to find C64 stuff in your area. I would consider that too much, but maybe for you it's not?

The first thing is this guy doesn't list shipping, I'm assuming you asked about it. What was it?
Also did you ask this guy if the C64 is a 5 pin DIN or 8 pin DIN video out? If it's a 5 pin DIN port then it's an original and will have the crappy graphics chip.. I find more of these being pawned off on poor ebay c64 collectors..
The C64 is dirt comon.. I run into dusty breadboxes all the time for $5.00 locally (saw over 5 last year.) but this is Ebay and each of the C64 hardware usually goes for $20 each. So C64-$20, 1541-$15-20 monitor-$20.. If this is just a loose C64 and a 1541 drive then it is worth around $35-40+15 shipping..
This sort of stuff in an auction makes me run fast, "A bonus item yet to be determined!! It may be great or it might totally bite!! The only thing I will reveal is that it will be a Commodore 64 item and it will be light to not add weight to this 35 pound package! I know you are really excited and have to bid now!!! This auction is now like a box of Cracker Jacks except there is no way the secret surprise is going to be as bad as the things they are tossing into those boxes these days!"
If you see a BONUS ITEM!! OMG! don't bother, the guy selling is a shyster.
He also says the item has an A/V cable included.. but then writes later that no switch box is included.. so he really don't have an A/V cable just an RCA cable for the RF out.. shady to say the least..
as for the 200 floppies, I've run into huge lots of new floppies at goodwill all the time.. usually $7 for 500 disks... new.
The monitor is overpriced.. any flat screen TV works just as well..
What you really want is a Commodore 128 and a 1571 drive as they do not cost more then a c64 online. They usually go for $40 for both.. The C128 is a better system and will last you longer then an old C64 which was never ment to last into 2000. and the 1571 can use double sided floppies while the 1541 can not..
You only have 11 feedback.. I'd just not pay and start over.. You really should call around, I've run into soooo many old computer parts dealers around big cities.. They usually sell old Apple II's, more then once I've run into one who had several boxed C128's and 1571's.
I sure hope Mayhem doesn't see this.. he would probably go off on you.. X_x

Oh dear...
There are NO retro computers in my area.
I have never seen not one!
even if I did over pay I don't care it's exactly what I wanted and I have the money to burn.
As for you Mr. Raedon....
NOT pay?! Are you crazy?!! That's so wrong....
Oh well I am pretty happy with the over-all deal.

I have no problem with not paying for something that 1) hasn't been shipped to me yet 2) I made a mistake on bidding and 3) won't hurt anyone really.. and won't get the cops at my door..
If you got the money to burn then f*ck it, but you're like a kid and when I was a kid $60 was impossible to come by unless it was the day after Christmas.

Okay Raedon by your logic it's okay for the guy who paid 166 dollars on my toploader and a few games to NOT pay me just because he vastly over-paid?
I should hope not!
I am a fairly honest person with pretty good morals ..... I just couldn't bring myself to do something like that.
And the only reason I have the money is because I make it myself I find stuff at fleas and I sell it for stuff I want.
I still have a good 140 left after that little spending spree...
Looks like I'll be at the flea tomorrow, hehe ^^

Morals are what keep you from sleeping with your sister, not paying for an online auction has nothing to do with Morals.. :P
The only thing that keeps people honest on Ebay is the Feedback system, and if you don't have much feedback there is no need to be honest.. That is why peope cancel 0 feedback bidders and no one buys from sellers with 0 feedback. You could make 11 feedback back in no time.
as for being honest, you wouldn't be ripping him off.. hell, he's already thinking about how he ripped you off.. just like you are thinking about the guy who payed $166.00 for a top loader..

Of course if no one bought from sellers with 0 feedback, how on earth would they get some? :P
And yeah before you utter the obvious answer... I am looking at this from the view of people who don't use eBay to buy items (and there are plenty of them about)...
As for the items in question, the monitor is overpriced, but the C64 is reasonable...

Mayhem, $80.00 (after shipping) for a c64 and 1541 is not reasonable, of all people out there you should know that :-(
And This guy is running shaddy anyway.. he is already auctioning the exact same stuff with the same picture again.

you could get a C64 painted black with "Metallica" stickers all over the 1541 drive..
ok.. Metallica sticks wouldn't be that bad :D

Raedon28 - 37 Positive feedbacks. I don't bid unless I'm going to pay, I know what things are worth and I know what they are not. but if I got drunk and bid on 650 dirt common Genesis games for $5000 I would dump ebay in a second before I paid for that mistake.. and so should you..

As a seller, people do it to me left and right. Even some with 100+.

I'm almost speechless at the above quoted comments. What you're basically telling this guy to do is fuck over the seller of the auction even though the seller didn't do a damn thing wrong do deserve it.
What you should have recommended was that he fulfill his obligation to this seller and then make sure he do his homework iin advance before bidding on any more auctions.
BTW, what's youe ebay account name so I know who to avoid in the future?

The 2 auctions are way high but there's lots of game disks so you could be up and running easy.
Abandoning the eBay account and leaving the sellers high and dry is a bit drastic. The sellers dpon't seems bad (one has 3 neg vs 250 pos and other don't have any neg)
I'd write this up to experience, and pay them both. And next time, use the ended auction search to get an idea how much the stuff goes for. Or at least, *ask* here before bidding! :)
A couple word of warnings for the C64: the black brick is nortorious for blowing up the C64. Its cheap design allows overload to occur when a compoment fails and when you have 120v AC running through where 9v should be, a lot of the compoments would start to fry before you even know something's wrong.
Earlier 1541 also had a tendancy for failure, mostly in the head alignment. It's no easy task to realign the head manually. 1541C and 1541-II seems the best overall. Oh yeah, don't use Exelerator disk drive for C64, I remember a few reports of power supply going up in smoke literally. Even mentioned in one Commodore magazine (RUN I think) that they are fire hazard.

Don't be so dramatic, not paying for an auction obviously leaves you open for negative feedback and if you care about your ebay account you will make good. It's not like I've never paid for an auction or trade; hell I've been screwed over more from trying to trade in the buying and selling forum then I have on Ebay. Crazyimp is right of course, chalk it up as a learning experience. If the kid wanted to save $50 on those two items he could if he didn't care about his 11 feedback, the internet is faceless and "fucking someone over" won't loose a seller or a buyer any sleep.. It just like everything else in life, make sure your not on the wrong end of the fucking over and you will do just fine..
