About this time two years ago a few of my friends and I formed "Tutors Gaming." When we were younger we loved traveling the area to go to card and comic shows and tournaments, driving upwards of 2 hours to visit far away shops in hopes of big cash prizes, meeting up with other players who didn't live in our area. We got nostalgic for those times and decided to start running our own events in a local hotel (The Inn at Reading, no less, the same location of ECGXpo the past 2 years). Money was spent, fun was had, and in the end we lost a lot of money... a lot of money...

We put our tournaments on the back burner for quite some time.

We've once again been bitten by the bug to start the events again, and we're pretty sure we can finally break even right off the bat. The addition that will help us break even? Video game tournaments, in addition to Magic and Yu-Gi-Oh tournaments.

Our main question is, how far would you be willing to travel for a card, comic, and video game show? Not a convention like ECGXpo, CGE, PhillyClassic, or MAGfest, but just a show. Like 2000-3000sqft, cards, games, and comics for sale, perhaps a few nick-naks, few tournaments, that kinda stuff. How much would you be willing to pay for entrance to just the show, and how much would you be willing to pay for entrance to tournaments?

I guess about an hour's drive is max for me - I'd pay about 5 bucks to enter not knowing what to expect. Perhaps you could have free entrance, but a small entrance fee for each event, so you'd at least have an audience who may or may not participate. Be a good way to grow it.

Definately no more than an hour. Admission no more than $5, although free is better. I used to always hit the local computer shows but then there was a time when the price of admission kept going up while the number of vendors started to decrease. Hence I don't go to them much anymore. Card and comic shows are the same way. When just starting out and getting established free or a token admission (ie. #2-3) might be best.

To be honest, I've never really been sure what to call PhillyClassic, VGXPO, ECGXPO, etc... -- A Show? Exhibition? Convention?

And, I don't see the difference between what you're describing, and one of the other shows. Why is yours "Not a convention like ECGXpo, CGE, PhillyClassic, or MAGfest, but just a show." In each, I see tournaments, things to buy, etc...

I'm not trying to be confrontational here, this is a sincere question. Is it just a matter of size?

If you are asking the part specifically about particiaption of a tournament, state thate outright.

Me, I have had better half accompany me from NYC to Las Vegas or NYC to Philly or NJ for video game related events. She has also accompanied me on infinite "runs" locally.

As far as start up events, what you are pointing to. They are tough to start up! JMO. Good luck if you do, maybe I and the better 1/2 will c u there.
