View Full Version : NES TOP LOADER: New NESDEV AV mod!

I'm not sure how many people follow the NESDEV forum, but a lot of progress has been done there in regards to the regular top loader video quality.
The gist of it is:
- I purchased an extra top loader
- I took it apart and started working on trying to figure out how to get clean AV out of it
- With the help of others at NESDEV, I've managed to produce perfect Front Loader video picture quality (using RCA cables) out of a top loader.
Total cost: less than 5$ in parts.
PRO: the ultimate 8-bit nintendo game system is a real NES Top loader with the newly designed NESDEV video amp that uses the exact same video amp IC as a front loader.
CON: RF modulator doesn't work anymore.

Post the circuit to fix it.
seconded. get us some schematics.
Not being able to use the rf anymore isn't a con really, imo.
I mean, the whole point of this video mod is to not use it anymore, right??? I ripped the rf right outta my toploader anyway.

i haven't been on this forum in a little over 2 months.
has there since been a fix for the 'lines' on the US redesigned 'Top Loader' NES?
if this is true, i will not go ahead and purchase the AV Famicom...

clearly, i am too retarded to sort this mess out.
If someone could write a howto on this, such as those that exist for so many mods(the info found at gamesx.com , and john soper's page www94.pair.com/jsoper are prime examples) I'd be most appreciative..

Still looking for an answer to my question. Leonk?
I am not sure if omnedom is frequenting this forum regularly still but if this is a fix for the lines, and someone can do this fix as well as the AV mod for me, that would be great.

I will be trying this mod soon. I have no reason to not believe that it will be as successful as leonk has found. I still have to sort out input costs and labour.
And no, I'm not able to post as frequently as before.

Click here (http://darthcloud.da.funpic.org/img/bypass.html) for the schematic. leonk, can you take real world pictures of the changes you made, or even better, a step-by-step modding guide that includes pictures of the PCB at each step?
