Look's like the analysts aren't so sure about Sony's price drop any more.

Personally i think it'd be stupid not to cut the price, but then again as stated in the article a holiday price cut just isn't in Sony's DNA.

Sony is greedy bro, nothing we can do about it. PSP is going higher to $299 thanks to the "1 gb" bundle. Which honestly is a pointless idea, since many can achieve a greater memory disk by now.

Sony just has that attiude of "We know where we are at"

I think Sony will only drop their price if MS does. They are gambling that the PS2 competition is only the Xbox and GC. Anybody who wants a 360, will get one, or wait until they can.
If an MS price drop occurs, you'll likely see a Sony drop as well.

Sadly though, Sony reads Bloomberg too, and realize MS probably will not do a drop, because of reason said in some other thread...

If sony is going to price adjust the clock is ticking and we will find out in a few short weeks or so.

I'm inclined to agree. They have litte to gain by doing a price cut if MS doesn't, but lots to lose if MS does.

Actually they theoreticly could have a lot to gain. Parents are cheap and dumb.

Well, you're absolutely right about that. I'm a cheap parent and I'm.... DOH!

They're already so far ahead though, they really don't need to up the ante so to speak. While they would hurt MS pocket book a touch, they would also hurt their own. Why bother unless your hand is forced?

I guess it all depends on how cheaply they can manufacture the PS2 for and how much of a hurt they think the price drop would put on 360 sales.

Do you think they're really trying to compete with the sales of the 360 with alesser machine? I think the sony hype mobile is the area trying to compete with next gen sales, and that the PS2 division is trying to reap the maximum profits from this one.

Directly? No. But as i stated earlier parent's are cheap. Think about it, would a parent rather drop $399 on an Xbox 360 or $99 on a PS2 that still has great games coming out and they've denied buying for years.

I'm not saying it's something they'd normal try to do, but anything that can make a dent, no matter how small, in the 360's sale would be a good thing. Especially if they can manufacture it cheaply.

I think, at least domestically, they need to drop to 100 now before the 360 launch and their own console launch to get the last few holding out. Otherwise, who's going to care what price it is after the ps3 and 360 are both out there?

The people who are casual gamers will most likely be persuaded they want the new systems, so all they'd get would be the few hardcore players who held out and still want the ps2.

The PS2 has been around a very long while. It's like yesterday's news. Anybody who wants one has already owned at least two. I'd like to pick up another one, but at $180 Canadian...plus $50 memory card...and a game or two, it's more than I want to pay for old stuff. It's not like I NEED it because it's a new gaming experience. I just want to give GT4 another look. I learned a long time ago not to do used PS2s, so it's new or nothing.

I'd like to see the PSTwo drop another $30 or so. It would make it more palatable.

With Sony's Playstation and video game market being their most profitable, to drop the price dramatically would severely hurt them financially. Especially as much of the rest of their company is in rough shape. The only reason to drop the price would be to gain more market share, but do you want to gain more market share when most companies are already jumping on the next gen bandwagon?
