Game reminds me of my Commodore's Elite. But story? Ewww. Perhaps it gets better but not impressed so far.
Do Colony Wars 1 or 2 have a better story? Which one's better?
Any other space sims with great stories?

I've been sitting on Colony Wars for a long time; I should really sit down & play it pretty soon. What little time I did spend w/ it trying it out, I liked. I probably spend more time THINKING about what game(s) I should play next rather than actually playing them. :embarrassed:
Oh, & I WILL be using cheats...
The main good thing I heard about CW 3 is the save system allows you to do so after each mission, rather than after groups of missions as in CW 1 (& 2?)

I didn't think Colony Wars 1 had a bad story, but I did not get very far into it. I found that game to be harder than hell, and I have heard 2 is worse.

I will try to find CW1 then - thanks!

Colony Wars 1 and 2 were friggin' wonderful experiences. I loved how 2 changed perspectives on the conflict, similar to how X Wing and Tie Fighter operated.
In fact, I've been planning on playing through the trilogy again at some point, but I need to get around to figuring out the magical PSEmuPro plugin configuration so that I can play them (right now I'm getting nasty sound troubles in ePSXe and SSSPSX with Pete's SPU, built in SPU, and EternalSPU). Once I get around to figuring that out, I'll be zoomin' ...holy hell were those great games. Really, screw saving between missions when you can save midmissions :)
I remember the first time I fired up a demo of Colony Wars on one of those Jam Pack discs that used to sell for $5 or some such... I was floored by just how awesome it was. I ended up buying the game as soon as it came out and playing the hell out of it.
Shame Colony Wars for PS2 got cancelled, and I agree that the overall quality of the series does go down with each sequel (while the difficulty goes up).
Tangent -> Wing Commander Prophecy for GBA was such a shitty port. I can't believe they tried to port the 3d ships over instead of just making some 2d ships a la Wing Commander 1 and 2. Jesus. It's an unplayable mess :(

The best part of the CW games was removed for Red Sun.
No multiple branching missions!!

OMFG! This is one of the best PSone games ever made! Certainly the best of the three Colony wars games that's for sure. I couldn't get enough, and wanted more!
I actually played through the three in reverse order, starting with Red Sun, and I must say that the other two are nothing in comparison.
I think the story and the characters and the missions are perfect, and an ideal candidate for a film al la Star Wars, but better! Maybe perfect for a Tv series Star Trek style perhaps?

Why not use a PS2 or PSone console?
Finding sealed copies of Colony War 1 and 2 will be a challenge. I don't like used-scratched discs.
I can't believe a PS2 game never happened. Company go bankrupt?

I can get cleaner screen captures from an emulator and I can save at any point, so it works out pretty well for me since I generally don't have a whole lot of time to play in each sitting, but I can squeek in a couple of short playing sessions throughout the week.
The one major advantage to playing on a PS/PS2 is that I can capture video then, but for whatever reason my Winfast PVR program is borked and I don't like using DScaler to capture lengthly videos (>5 minutes).
If I ever dig up a dexdrive, maybe I'll do a combination of of the two

True, sealed versions of the first two games are very hard to get. I have been after both for a very long time now.
However, I did manage to get hold of a shrinkwrapped PAL version of the first game though, with the seller leading me to believe it was actually factory sealed... I think I still have it lying around somewhere, still sealed in shrinkwrap if that's of any use to anyone? It's in perfect condition, except the shrinkwrap has started to continue to shrink, and has split at one end...
Red Sun is also quite hard to get sealed now too. I bought what I believed to be a sealed copy a while ago, but the stupid eBay seller sent me an unwrapped one and gave me some bullshit about how he always uses "Archive photo's" for all his auctions.
And yes, Psygnosis are now out of business. Gone. Kaput. So, no Psygnosis, no more Colony Wars... Although, they were responsible for WipEout, and we have recently had WipEout Pure on the PSP, so maybe there is still chance we will see a new Colony Wars game...
Anyone thought about starting up an oline petition to see if we can drum up some interest in having the game revived? I am sure there are many fans of the genre out there who enjoyed the series who would support the cause... Especially seeing as Star Wars games seem very popular at the moment...

I don't think it was bankrupcy, I recall it was bought out or merged with a Sony studio.
