:D I could not wait for this game to come out. Folks this is probably one of the best games for the PS2 graphic wise. The environments are beutiful. The combat is stunning. And a create a character mode. You can make a character of your own and use them in Chronicles of the sword mode, which is almost like a RPG. Pick up this game TODAY! OR TOMORROW! Almost forgot, there are new characters.

Hey, I have the demo of this (finally got my MotoGP demo disc and it has the SC3 demo as well as a few others) and I agree that the graphics are very nice for the PS2 - though I wish they were also putting this out for the Xbox...
Anyway, in the video footage, there's a character called "Colossus" - a huge statue - is this a playable character or just a boss?

You see colosess in story mode and you battle him. Maybe he is a character. I highly doubt it but maybe.

I played against the Colossus in the mission mode, but haven't seen him anywhere else yet.
SC3 is pretty darn good, and one of the best looking games on any system (if you like saturated, colorful, effect heavy graphics.) The fighting engine just feels tighter and the new characters kick ass. Still wish there was online play, though, even if it was at the expense of all the other modes in the game.
Of course, the last one dropped to $20 in a short period and this one is getting even less publicity...so I'm waiting to pick it up.

Cool, thanks. I kind of doubt that Colussus would be aplayable character as well - he/it would be too unbalanced... guys like Siegfried/NIghtmare are bad enough.

Not having the game come out on GC and Xbox as well was a dumb move IMO by Namco... I hope Sony gave them a nice pile of cash for making SC3 a PS2 exclusive.

Great! I was hoping this would be good. Loved the first two, can't wait for this one! I'll get it asap!

Does this mean that the PS2 is the only system getting this game? That seems odd to me. It also means (choke) no more Link in SC...

The word going around is that it might see an Xbox release in the next 6 months but i wouldn't hold your breath.
Personally i wasn't overthrilled by SCIII. It just doesn't seem like much on an upgrade from SCII.

I agree with Nji. When I first saw the demo at Ebgames I thought that it was SCII for a second. I played it for a bit and to be honest it seemed more like SCII : Substance than a new game. but then again I didn't play around with the new adventure mode, which I hear is super awesome.

I'm loving this, too...but I'm annoyed by one thing - that the character you make in the adventure mode has to be made just for that (i.e., you can't load one you created elsewhere). I really, really don't see why they couldn't make them one in the same.

This game is reviewed in the issue of EGM I just got in the mail today. All 3 critics gave it a score of 9.

It's a shame that it didn't get a multiplatform release. Anyone have the figures for SC2 sales cross platform? I thought the 'cube version sold the most copies... I could be wrong, I've been so in the past. 8*)

Really? Not too many multi-platform games do that, I bet. I guess featuring Link as a playable character worked like a charm...

Soul Calibur 3 is incredible!!!!! BUT WAIT TIL NEW YEARS DAY 'cause the price is dropping to $30. Why waste $20?

Namco did not have enough time to do 3 ports. They would have missed Christmas. So they chose to target the console with the biggest audienc - ps2.

I'm now more pissed off than ever at Sony for restricting the release to the PS2... as it's the only current system of mine that's out of fuggin' commission! :frustrated:
*sigh* Hopefully, I can wait until Christmas to get a new PS2 and SC3... I must say, it looks like a real delight. I look forward to A. Continuing to kick ass with my boy Voldo, B. Create my own character (I'm leaning towards Samurai), and C. Unlocking every freaking thing there is in the game. I got everything in SC2 by playing it a straight four days, and it looks like it'll take longer than that with the content SC3 has to offer.

Bought Soul Calibur III. Hated it.
1. Nothing felt right in controlling the characters.
2. Way too many annoying peeves buried within the Create-a-Player mode.
3. Graphics Sucked. Even with the game, the system, and my TV all set to Progressive 16:9, it still looks like the game is glossed over in vasoline. XB's SCII and even DC's SCI looked better than this, especially in the backgrounds.
4. The dragon's lair stuff has to go.
5. When did Raphael become Dracula?
6. The new modes aren't new; they just broke everything up into suckier smaller increments.
There were just too many signs that the game was rushed, and nothing felt truly finalized. It's the first game I've ever returned the next day since Viewpoint on the PSX.

My friend bought the new DS Spyro. He had the same basic feeling.
Anyway, I saw some guys playing adventure mode. It's like Dragon Force, minus the awesome. And quarterstaff = WTF.

I also got my MotoGP demo and played the SC3 demo. I didnt see anything special about it. Seems like SC2 with extras.
Im sticking with Tekken 5.

It feels tighter than SC2, which provides a lot more precision and sharper timing. I couldn't stand SC2 because of it's looseness. Made it feel like a button mashing fest...
2. Way too many annoying peeves buried within the Create-a-Player mode.
agreed. it's a tack-on, just as I suspected.

yeah, you're smoking some good crack....this is one of the best looking games out right now. Everything looked perfect on my widescreen w/ Prog.Scan. No jaggies, brilliant vivid colors, living backgrounds....and to say SC1 looked better? Good crack indeed.
4. The dragon's lair stuff has to go.
meh, it livens up the otherwise bland story. I'm all for the occasional context move.
6. The new modes aren't new; they just broke everything up into suckier smaller increments.
agreed. the game has a serious case of "mode clutter" when all it needed was one extra-- Online.

as a fighter fan who enjoys getting to know the ins and outs of an engine, I love the game, despite the mode situation.

Only for PS2? No thanks, I'll stick to my SC on the Dreamcast and SC2 on the GameCube.
Can't stand that piece of shit PS2 controller. Or long load times. Or shitty antialiasing. Hell, everything about the PS2 sucks.
What a stupid move by Namco...SC2 sold most on the GameCube, and worst on the PS2. Why the hell would you make the next one exclusive for the system its predecessor sold the worst on?!

Well, with licensing and all, the high GameCube sales might not have translated to all that much profits for Namco. Margins can be pretty slim.
I rather like the PS2 controller. The GameCube controller is really nice as well. I wasn't a huge fan of the Xbox controller, but I've used worse.

I loved the DC SC and was pretty satisfied with SC 2, but I am really disappointed with SC 3. I have really gotten into 2D fighters lately, and maybe it has spoiled me.

After spending three days with it. I do honestly feel that Soul Calibur 3 went back to the basics. Yet the quest and such really drives away from the purposes of the main game.
I only finished the game once and two characters were unlocked already?? Gee that takes the replay value out quite a bit :( Whatever happen to just playing as one guy, to earn one guy?
So I left the game running at work and automatically Lizardman and Sophita were there. Gees, Lizardman is now 20 times easier to get a hold of?
The graphics, oh ya it's a re-hash of SC2 pretty much, nothing new. I honestly feel that SC3 could have waited for Xbox 360 or PS3.
Yet leave it to Sony, to throw a baby-fit for "exclusive" bullshit.
