Tales of Destiny/Symphonia - what else?

[Definition - auto-battle = you put down the controller, grab some popcorn & watch your people fight - self-playing]

I think Star Ocean - The second story for PSX did. I always played the manual mode so you could controll your tema and perform the actuall hack and slash.

Grandia 1 and 2

Suikoden 3 kind of borderline on that one.

Edit with the new criteria Suikoden doesn't make it.

suikoden has auto-battle "rounds", where everyone in your party attacks as the CPU sees fit. you resume control after the entire roster has preformed.

maybe i misunderstood what you meant by auto battle mode.... skies had a setting where you could let the computer decide how the members of your party would fight in a battle instead of the player making the choices. i don't think it would be useful for levelling up though...

I was thinking of Tales of Destiny/Symphonia where the battle screen is self-playing. You don't do anything. And yeah auto-battle is useful for leveling-up 'cause you can watch Sci-Fi Channel or HBO while the Computer does the tedious battling.

I just played some 20 hours of Symphonia w/o any input except moving my characters from one battle to the next battle & saw some great scary movies on TCM/AMC. Leveled them from 55 to 70.

The FF3/6 colloseium. Its a lot of fun. Pick a character, equip him, place your bet and watch.

Someone mentioned the first Lunar game, but the second one had it also. And that's one of the only things I did'nt like about the games -- they worked well, but the battles were long and BORRING!

The Suikoden's, Grandia's, and Star Ocean games have it as well, but they require more monitoring on your part.

The Wild Arms games, though, were good for auto battle. You can set it in the first round and just watch them go at it.

I PREFER RPG's with auto battle options, as long as they are'nt mandatory. Can help the game speed and you can go get a drink, snack, phone, bathroom run, something during it.

tecmo's secret of the stars (awesome rpg) has an auto mode that has decent ai that will fight and use healing offensive/defensive spells at the right time.

vay on sega cd also does the same ,it'll even use items.

phantasy star 2 and 3

destiny of an emporer has "all out" which is almost the same thing.

Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne
Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga I
Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga II

These games all have an "auto battle mode", where the characters just go ahead and attack on their own.
