If you haven't, you can check it out here LINK (http://media.putfile.com/Perfect-Dark-Intro)

I've gotta say, my response is, meh.

CMTZ, I also am not feeling the love for the 360. I played it at walmart, and wasn't really impressed. I dunno. I might sit this next gen out for a while.

So anyways, what do you guys ('n gals) think of the intro video?

I'm feeling the love, maybe its because you don't have a hugeass 60'' tv and with only the ps2 in hdtv I've been itching for good graphics.

Dude its only the intro to the game, I think this is the first time I have even watched the intro to a game.

Read an interesting article today (gamespot.com). It said that the 360 has three dual threaded cores for a total of six threads. It also suggested that the initial games will only use a single thread since programmers were not able to adapt quickly enough to the new complexities of 360 programming. Essentially, the initial games are barely beyond the abilities of current gen systems. They are just benefitting from the brute power of the 360; assuming this is true. Microsoft has been silent on the veracity of this.

I'm ready. After playing the Kong demo in HDTV, and then playing the same demo on the PS2, you definitely see the huge jump in graphical quality. The game may not play much differently, but the immersion factor goes off the charts.

Well it defintely fits with the new Rockstar Johanna look but i find it overly impressive. I'm still feeling the 360 love, but PDZ isn't looking above par yet.

Meh, its a game intro. I wouldn't really see a 30 second game intro as representative of the next generation, or any generation of games for that matter. A good intro is memorable, but not essential to the overall game experience.

How many people thought any less of Ninja Gaiden on the NES if they skipped the opening cut scenes... sure, it makes the game BETTER, but it isn't necessary to enjoy the entire game.

In any event, I think most people have decided by now whther or not they are buying and Xbox 360 during launch. If they haven't, then I fear their decision has already been made due to short supply. If it wasn't pre-ordered, I'm thinking its going to be tough to come by one for a while.

It's pretty good, but not great.
Better than "meh" though.

No but the opening video is indicitiative of the overall feel of the game and the video screams MTV, something i'm not sure all Perfect Dark Fans are comfortable with.

It's kind of like a Rockstar James Bond intro sans the women which i what i guess rare was looking for.

Make sure you watch it in widescreen. It makes a difference.

Now that it seems that Sony "might" come out later than expected I might have to look into it. I really want the revolution.

All tech jargon aside, one core can only efficiently process one thread at a time. And with the shared cache and memory bus, the effectiveness isn't comparable to architechtures with a dedicated cache and bus for each processor core. Of course, this is not economical for a console at this time.

What the Xbox360 essentially has, is a Cpu that is strained from 3 simplified units rather than one big one. The 3 cores and 1MB cache total 165 million transistors and takes up 168mm of area. Compare this to the *single* core Pentium 4 prescott, also with 1MB cache, at 125 million transistors taking up 112mm of area.

What does it add up to? Nothing earth-shattering. According to John Carmack (legendary FPS engine coder) :

Xbox360 cpu will "run at about half the speed of a modern state of the art system, and that’s because they’re in-order processors, they’re not out-of-order execution or speculative, any of the things that go on in modern high-end PC processors. And while the gigahertz looks really good on there, you have to take it with this kind of “divide by two” effect going on there."

Also according to him, the M$ dev tools are fantastic. Should be no problem for the games to be optimized to use all the available processing power at hand, as the cpu thread balancing aspects should be integral to the compiling process.

It's MUCH less complex than Cell, which is both good and bad.

Ok i take back everything i said about PDZ being behind the times with it's graphics. The lighting was spectacular and Johanna's hands look amazing wrapped around that gun.
