I'm about what you, my fellow gamers, are planning on doing about enjoying the HD aspect of the next gen.

I myself am taking the VGA cable + 21" Sony Trinitron Monitor route.

How 'bout you?

Sticking with the old 19" TV with composite baby.

If I actually get one, I'll plug the PS3 into my Toshiba 56" 1080p.

As is, I'm sticking with a 2005FPW for PC gaming, and a 32" Sony XBR2 (old but great) for the old consoles I kept.

Already have HDTV, but only for DVD's and t.v programming. Not going to move on to next gen I think :(

Pre-Xbox consoles run on a 24" flat screen anilog. :D

Building Cocktail Mame unit for the old arcade stuff.

That's my stance as for now, could change if they start making games besides FPS by the gobs.

Well good luck with that.

I'd get an HD tv only when I moved out. My 27" standard tv with s-vid and composite inputs is more than sufficient for my console needs.

Hell, it was only this year when I got that, that I even upgraded from RF.

Don't need luck, no sweat really. Just takes time.

I will say on occasion that I've hook'd up the DC through VGA box on the HDTV and yea baby! Good stuff.

Dosen't mean I'm not excited to see the next gen on HDTV monitors, should be schweeeettt if any of the Dev's really lay into the next-gen hadware.

Hell, I still have a good half of my systems hooked up via RF. I really should get a new TV, but I have a hard time justifying the purchase while my current (ancient) one works just fine. Games are just as fun even without perfect clarity.

I thought this post was about hard disks :(

I really don't care enough about high def gaming to invest in a new television.

Right now, I have a Infocus X1 projector and a 113 inch 16:9 screen in my Garage.

It's my famous Garage movie theater. It was basically designed with my XBOX in mind, and was pretty much incredible for the current gen systems. The projector actually can resolve 800 x 600, which seems really low, but it did all 480p games perfectly, and the 720p XBOX games looked incredible on it as well, even though it would internally scale it down to it's highest native resolution of 800 x 600. The other thing is that the X1 is a 4:3 projector, so when you have it in it's 16:9 mode, you are losing some of your resolution as well. And you need to have alot of black surrounding the screen for any excess light spill.

Now, if I had the cashola, it would be all about getting a DLP Projector that can do native 720p. And one that also has the 16:9 chip in it, instead of the 4:3 one. Unfortunately, their price is still a little out of my reach. You need to cough up about 2 grand to get a DLP that can do 720p in 16:9 natively, the thing is, you are going to get like the cheapest one out there that can do that if you want to stay right at 2 grand.

The X1 is an incredible value to anybody that is willing to put some time in to create their own screen. I can guarantee you, that if you came over to the Garage and saw Amped 2 on the first XBOX on it, you would be totally blown away, and totally mesmerized by what you would see.

You would be dumbfounded on how I could possibly have that for about 1 grand.

I'm amazed your post was that short.

EDIT: But suggest a great Xbox 720p/1080i game for me.

As for me, I purchased my baby on Friday. I've had to wear diapers and duck tape my wang to my leg because I've had a raging boner that goes off without warning due to this TV.

Holy freaking god it's gorgeous. I started Shadow of the Colossus today and it's absolutely breathtaking. I can't wait to get a high quality system selector and an X360. More than that, I can't wait to do Lord of the Rings Day again... oh man.

Damn, dude, you got me beat! I have 34" Sony XBR. Amazing HD quality on that although it is a little small by todays standards.

I just bought a 27" non-HD TV. (Sylvania 27" Flat) HD is too out of my league right now.

So I'll use either Component or S-Video. I would love Component on all my systems. But I have one component RGB input. And one S-Video input. But I've seen S-Video compared to Composite and I can't go back. So I would love to convert (Buy the adapters) all my systems, GameCube, PSTwo and Xbox and later Xbox 360 and Revolution to Component OR S-Video (On this TV, I don't really know if there's even a difference between the two.)

So the question is does a device exist that will allow me to connect multiple Component systems/devices to the same connection? And while we're at it, one that could convert S-Video into it so I could have one big switcher box with all my consoles and my TiVo and my DVD recorder and players and everything all connected at once? Then it would have a remote IR port so I could program my TiVo remote to switch the input. Does such a monstrosity exist?? Especially with the whole movement away from Composite/RF? (I haven't even used my TiVo on my Antenna In port since I discovered how much better looking S-Video is. Too bad the TiVo doesn't have Component... yet.) As long as it's not HD only as I don't have an HD TV yet. Not for another 2-5 years at least. $400 is the most I'll pay for a TV.

What no RGB option?! ;)

Seriously though, I highly suspect I'll still be in the RGB/component area of picture output for the next-gen, unless somehow I can afford a decent HDTV along the way to go into my new (money-sink) dwelling.

There are always ways. It's just about how much you want to spend. I'd save my money for the HD TV (I got one of mine for $200 at Walmart (open box bargain). It's not awesome but has a solid HD picture and came with a built in HDTV tuener so I get free HDTV...open box bargains are my bread and butter...

Some receivers will convert all incoming signals to be a signal sent out over component, whcih is what I am looking at now (they are $500+ as far as I can tell so far). Since you need composite, s-video and the like you would need the Pelican Pro System Selector. This solves most problems for $80 or so, I believe there is a remote controlled model as well. This of course does not solve the RF problem. You could just use your TV's RF input with an RF switch box. (Might be able to use a VCR or a RF Splitter/Combiner). You could try to plug the VCR into the System Selector then with Composite cables. This does not seem to work for all systems, but I've only tried one fairly old VCR. Ultimate solution id purchasing an RF Demodulator ($100). WWell, of course you can just have your systems modded with composite and S-Video outputs....

But then there's the RGB issue... :)

Oh yeah the original topic. Every manufacturer is releasing their version of a 1080P HDTV or Projector at this time. The HDTV standard is moving from 720P to 10 80P so that means it's time to upgrade. Of course these new sets are $3800+ and as yet unproven, so I personally will wait and see what these TV's can do. The PS3 declared its support for 1080P, Microsoft only claimed 720P for the 360. Wonder if the 360 will do 1080P? I think we will have to wait for the HD-DVD model. A 1080P movie or game probably could not fit on a standard DVD.

I think Terminator 2 came with a 1080P .wmv file of the movie for anyone wanting to see 1080P on their PC??

I can't afford all this newfangled technology. I still play games on an ancient 14" portable. I guess hooking a console up to a PC monitor's an option.

I already have an HDTV - Samsung 61' DLP, with 720P native. The irony of course being that i have absolutely no intention whatsoever of purchasing an X-Box 360 or a PS3. (Unless they seriously come down in price by at least half)

When things come to 1080P - I'm kinda "Meh" about the whole thing. I've seen 1080P demo's and my eyes simply cannot tell a difference from "current" High Definition and the 1080P standard. I also highly doubt that broadcasters are going to be switching anytime soon, as they already spent tons to broadcast in 720P and 1080I respectively. Leaving videogames and the upcoming HD-DVD's as the only compatible medium. So for me - Current HD is fine for at least 10 more years, which is how long i intend to keep this set for.

"Sticking with my regular Standard TV and Component"

Think my 27" looks beautiful - crystal clear. I see no reason to waste money on a new set - til HDTV becomes standard (2010?)

I'm thinking, is my TV even worth going Component on all systems anyway? I'd probably have the same picture on this particular TV with S-Video only anyway. I already ave a bunch of S-Video switcher, might as well just buy adapters for my systems to do S-Video and leave Component for when I actually have something worth the money to convert.

When it comes to gaming for me, most of my gaming is done on my small, guessing about 20 inch screen, TV that I got in my bedroom for my birthday with flat panel and high-res. Everything on that baby, excluding my Atari 2600 which has an RF adaptor, runs off of RCA AV signal. BTW, got 7 consoles, various plug-and-plays, and a DVD player plugged into my TV (and if you want a real scare, all of that and more is plugged into 2 outlets in my room, a REAL Fire Hazard, I know).

As for most TV and movie watching and current gen gaming, with our XBOX and other systems when friends come over and bring theirs, and possibly next gen gaming if we ever buy one next gen system, my family has a 61 inch LCD High-Def TV in our living roon with SWEEEEET 5.1 THX/Doulby (or however the heck you spell it) master digital surround sound that runs off of pure fiber optic cabling! HD ROCKZ, and the AWSOME Sound System we got helps out too! Someone mentioned hooking up a DC with VGA to a comp monitor, well if I can ever get one of those adaptors, I plan on moving my DC out of my bedroom and its 20' screen and down to our living room and the 61' HD screen! For more gaming, I am currently in the process of helping my dad find a good, and hopefully not too expensive, PS2. That will be 3 current gen systems eventualy on our HD TV, but for now it is XBOX and movies only for the most part, But It Is COMPLETLY Worth IT! HD Is The Sweetness!

This summer my house got struck by lightning and my old tv got it. I had bought it only about a year before this, and it was just a regular 27" tv. Since I was getting money back through insurance I went ahead and bought an RCA 27" HDTV. It's so nice, I was happy I spend some extra money and got a nicer tv (I wish I would of gotten a even NICER one)

I found a Xbox HD pak at a thrift store the other day, and went to wal-mart and bought some component cables. Wow, it changes the games dramatically, makes them more fun to play and watch.

Now I don't have to buy another tv for a while since I have HD, which I'm happy about.
