The transition to the new forum went without a hitch, though you may spot a few glitches. Please report them here.

Here's a list of items I sent off to Larry (retrogmr, our tech admin) this morning:

RESOLVED 1. The oval buttons are sloppy. Could you double-check the set of graphics I gave you yesterday? Everything seems to have updated except the oval buttons: msg_newpost, post, reply, and reply-locked (gif). Are these buttons in a different directory perhaps? Also, where is the directory for the graphics, that way I don't have to bother you with these kinds of changes. Also, I've attached one that I missed (folder_new).

RESOLVED 2. Seems people with NO avatar are defaulting to a broken link, can you default them to the old static gif?

RESOLVED 3. Is the 15 minute problem solved? The users on the bottom of the screen ar actually those from the last FIVE minutes, not 15.

4. On you private messages screen, where the "% full" indicator is... seems the indicator is black, so it's always invisible.

5. "Form Fields", like when I go to my profile, seem to have white text on white backgrounds. This is an admin thing - users shouldn't have this problem.

The form fields in my profile worked fine for me, it was the login & password fields that had grey on white..

I dunno Joe. After a bit of perusing the boards.. I don't like it :(

I think it's just the "white text on black background" that's a little odd. How about black text on a light gray background? :) :hmm:

The entire website is based on this theme, and the reason why it was changed to this look was to match the rest of the site. I CAN'T change it so significantly.

What you might be able to do is coerce Larry via petition to keep either the old forum style or some generic, white background version of this one.

I love the new look and the faster loading times. Great job Joe and larry!

I have to agree. Though I'm happy to see the woodgrain and that purple pixel thing go, the high-contrast is very hard on the eyes. Even if the black in the posts was changed to a dark grey like #999999 I think it would be a lot easier to read.

I, for one, entirely dig this look over the old one. On my little modem here, it took several trips to the bathroom to load the forums before - now they're up super fast! And they look spiffier, just as the rest of the site has for a little while now. Even matches the cover of the guide. Nice and classy.

OK. I don't know when this happened, as I've been away from the board since sometime yesterday, I think. BUT, my first reaction was 'EEEeeewwwwww!'. My second reaction was that perhaps some elements of the page hadn't loaded, so I hit refresh. Then I noticed the '3.0'-ness and realized the change was intentional.

Admittedly, I tend to be resistant to change and slow to embrace changes to things I've grown comfortable with, so maybe I'll be just fine with the new look in a few weeks. But for now I can't say I like it. Of course, until I grew used to it I thought the old site was a little ugly too, but once I became used to it I never noticed the look of it again.

SO, I don't know how useful this feedback will be, but FWIW you've got it.

Well the contrast on the pages are going to nix me looking at the boards from work. This scheme draws too much attention.

People know you're dicking around when you have a black background & white type on your screen when you're supposed to have the opposite (black on white).

The earthy browns were nice & subtle. Maybe someone can recommend a good text only browser for the Mac?

i think that the black is WAY too dark. you can barely see the lines seperating things.

EDIT: Damn. my avatar doesn't work. im switchin back to the old bagman.

wait, that one doesn't work either!! ARGHH

The PHP forums have a handy little skin or theme option or something that
allows users to select different colour schemes, I'v seen it on other forums and
thought it would be a great feature here aswell :-D

Just a thought :/

I like it, but....

<------

No pic. It *was* working when the boards were woodgrain, and I don't have static either.

Try re-uploading it, Dave. There were a few glitches in this yesterday that should be corrected now. In fact, anyone who has a broken link should delete the existing pic, then re-upload from their profile.

Let me know how it works out.

I'm getting Virtual-Boy-Head-Throb off of this new scheme, so I'll have to take breaks every 15 minutes like Nintendo says to do. However, you could put Digital Press on a REAL Virtual Boy and I'd still visit :D

Seriously?

I'm prone to headaches and this theme has always worked for me for some reason. I guess it's all those years of classic gaming - stark white characters against pitch black backgrounds... my eyes and brain must have adapted to the "Space Invaders" visual assault!

I promise i'll do what I can to tone things down, but I'm not excited about doing that. I really like this theme.

yeah mon, it's true, but worry not, set it the way you want it and we naysayers will adapt. *waves Borg appendage around* :robot:

Although I do like that idea of keeping the woodgrain as a template for those who want it, what would it take to strongarm retrogmr? Not even the woodgrain necessarily, maybe just a light background template or something...

I'd say if someone other than ME starts a petition you might have a shot. He might be willing to maintain a generic version of this, I dunno about the woodgrain theme, but something that's more traditional at least.
