As you see in my collection, I love fighting games out of all the genres out there. So any fellow huge fighting game fans here? What's your favorite games? Which games you play the most? Which games do you dislike? etc...

I'm a huge fan of Capcom and SNK/Playmore. Favorite games are KOF 98, MvC2, Project Justice, and KOF 99.

HUGE 2D fighting game fan here! :D

My favourite include Street Fighter Alpha 3, Samurai Shodown I, II, and VI. Guilty Gear is great as well, although I find that I need to fight against human opponents in order to have a fun time with that game (Same goes for Mortal Kombat II).

Big 2D fighter fan myself, any SF2 or SF3, Mark of the Wolves and KoF 2001-03.

Only 3D Fighters I've ever gotten into were some Tekken's, UFC and VF2/4

I used to be big into the classic 2D fighting scene, but due to my piss-poor cooridination i eventually lost interest.

Hands down my favorite 2D fighters are Mortal Kombat 2, Guilty Gear X2: Reloaded.

As strange as it sounds i've always hated Street fighter with a passion. I just couldn't get into the characters.

As for the 3D era, well i think VF4 EVO is the penultimate fighting game, but it's one i've never gotten very good at because as mentioned eariler i suck at coordination.

Which is probably why i've fallen in love with DOA. Hardcore fighting fans who get pissy can kiss my ass because like it or not DOA is a good series. The characters are richly designed, the arenas are insane and the reversal system is awsome. It may not be as deep and complicated as VF4 but that's because it's not meant for the die hard freaks who plan each move down to the frame of animation. It's for people like me. People who like a good solid fighting game, but it's one they can get into and one they're friends can just pick up and play and have a good time.

Soul Calibar also stands out as an amazing 3D fighter series.

As for the 3D games i hate well Tekken tops the list. I hate the arenas, i hate the characters and i hate the fighting. It's just not my bag.

MK: Deception is also high on my list of the disliked games. In this, the era of free form fighting, MK remains as stiff and jagged as it was in the days of MK3. Un breakable dial-a-combos really piss me off.

Pocket Fighter

I agree with this statement, under the fact that the game's control setup has a major delay sometimes. Especially when you are in training mode. I hate tapping them like I'm trying to enter a friggin KONAMI NES code on crack...

I LOVE FIGHTING GAMES(AND FIGHTING GAME STUFF)!!!

I love fighting games, too. Street Fighter 2 is still one of my favorites. MvC2 and Street Fighter Alpha 3 are probably my favorites from Cpacom. From SNK I love KOF98 and Samurai Shodown 2. I never really got into the Capcom Vs. SNK games, to be honest. I might still, though. As far as 3D goes, Mortal Kombat Deception is a Mortal Kombat game that doesn't flat out die immediately due to crappy controls and unbalanced gameplay. Sure, the game has its bugs (When I saw bugs, I mean bugs, as in found two glitches within ten minutes of playing.) but it's balanced and fun. That, and it has remixed old level music. Mortal Kombat Trilogy is the exact opposite of this, but for some reason I still play it like mad because it's so broken it's silly and fun.

Whilst I am not a huge 2D fighter fan, there are certain games in the genre that I do really enjoy. Namely:

X-Men Vs Streetfighter (Saturn)
Tekken 3 (Playstation)
Soul Blade (Playstation)
Soul Calibur 2 (PS2)
Astra Superstars (Saturn)
Pocket Fighter (Saturn)

and ... well, perhaps not exactly a fighting game, but almost ...

Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo!

The best fighter game in its time! Now narrowly beaten by soul Calibur 2 imo. I still play it, even though the graphics are outdated, the soundtrack is worn and the characters just seem like a blob of undistinguisheable pixels... amazing...

and if anyone has played it, you should know where Spinal comes from :D

If you search on the net, there are even whole stories (nearly novels) based on this game... truly one of the classics!

We just had our "Fighters and Brawlers" night at our local Classic Gaming get together (plug here: http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=58972&highlight=).

We played Garou: MotW, KoF98, SFIII:3S, MvC2, Vampire Savior, and Asuka 120%.

I'm a pretty big fighter fan. I own arcades for Tekken 4, Marvel vs Capcom, Street Fighter vs X-Men, Virtual On, an ST-V cabinet (Virtua Fighter Remix/VF Kids), and a MVS cabinet (SNK FTW).

My favorite 2D fighter is probably 3rd Strike, but I can through down on most. Right now I'm really enjoying (and trying to get better on) Rage of the Dragons.

I enjoy playing obscure Saturn import fighters too like Groove on Fight and Astra Super Stars; it's fun to break them out with friends

For 3D I lean on the Soul Calibur series with an emphasis on SCII. But I can play a mean Lee or Paul in Tekken. I enjoy the Virtua Fighter series, but I've got to admit to not being very good at it.

I was always a big Tekken fan. I've been with the series from the beginning.

But I must admit, Im about Tekkened out. I saw the little trailer for the next Tekken game on the PS3, and Im not a bit excited.

Im thinking about going back to 2D fighting. Most likely the SF series.

markman > all of you. (better than me too)

as for what fighters i like, KOF series is a definite favorite, project justice, SSBM, Xmen VS. Streetfighter, SVC Chaos (unbalanced yes, but i enjoy it in small amounts), fatal fury. there was also a prototype arcade fighter i believe called 9th or maybe 10th degree? had some time to play it at ECGX, and found it very entertaining (has there ever been a rom released of that game??)

pretty much hate all other capcom fighters, street fighter is incredibly weak and bland to me, and could never really get into darkstalkers either. SNK is definitely my favorite... as you can tell if you know what my name means.

MarkMan: AMAZING collection! It's a shame that you and I cannot face each other one-on-one, in person, since its evident that you are at least as much a fighting game fanatic as I am (possibly more so).

I'm a huge fan of fighting games. No one has mentioned my favorite though:

Gundam Wing Endless Duel.

I definately love 2d fighters, especially Guilty Gear X2. I would like to try some other games (Capcom vs. SNK 2) but I am only 15 and thus have no money to spend on it. :(

My friend and I are trying to organize a club at our high school and are hoping to start some good fighting game tourneys. I can't wait! Can anybody reccomend some good training regimen or something? LOL (probably compete most in SSBM)

My favorite fighting games are SF2, Tekken Tag, Tekken 5, VF4, Soul Calibur, and Project Justice. I have yet to meet a serious match in Tekken Tag, and I've had the best competition with SF2, and Soul Calibur. I guess I dislike all the "who ever vs who ever" games because some of the moves look redicoulous to me. Maybe one day I'll give it a try.

I've yet to play any of the KOF yet, because I have not purchased a NEO GEO yet. I can't wait though.

I'm not really big on fighting games, but I do enjoy the Sega fighters a lot. I also like the Dead or Alive and Darkstalkers series. I don't care for War Gods, Toshinden, and Killer Instinct, and I hate Guilty Gear Isuka because of that stupid turn button.

Looks like I'll be getting the first next generation fighting game next week... Dead or Alive 4.... while the series has never been amazingly deep gameplay wise... I do look forward to this installment. I heard they made the okizeme(ground while getting up) a lot like Tekken and they've tightened the window for reversal/parries...

I hope the direction Tecmo and Team Ninja is going brings this game to a pure competitive game other than highly defined rock, paper, scissors.

Can't wait.

sadly, most of my love for fighting games pretty much died off once I lost the ability to play them in arcades (which was around the later half of 2001). Playing against predictable substandard and/or cheap AI (SNK Boss Syndrome!) just doesn't do it for me...I gotta play against real people.

I sure did love playing SF2 (Zangief!), Tekken 2 (Ganryu!), KoFs 96-99, Dead or Alive + and ++ (Bayman!), and a diverse chunk of other 2d, 3d, and hybrid fighting games.

Recently I've found myself having fun with Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution and sampling Guilty Gear XX #Reload. VF4:E has a ton of awesome single player content, and I'm finding the gameplay style of Guilty Gear to be refreshing and unique (not to mention insanely over the top)

On a tangent, does anyone else agree that Askua Burning Fest 120% was a piece of shit?

Finally someone says it. Definitely. If I ever played against an a-hole using Ryu, I just gave up. There's no point. I always picked Guile because he was so Van Damme, and just to go against the grain. I've gotten pretty good with him over the years.

MKII on SNES--I think I'll have carpal tunnel syndrome later in life. Also SNES Street Fighter II Turbo is classic. Genesis--I'm most likely in the minority, but I love Eternal Champions (Duh!), and of course Streets of Rage 2+3.

Samurai Showdown--I used to be good with Haohmaru.

Soul Edge arcade--God, I was addicted to that back in 1997. Awesome.

Oh yeah, and the first X-Men game--Children of the Atom? Love those 2-D fighters.

As of now my brother and I have probably accumulated approximately over 4000 hours of SF3 game time, seriously we love it that much. Rage of dragons I am trying to get on MVS since I loved playing Pepe when I put him into my mugen game.

But I will always love Street Fighter the most, the original one.

I play:
3rd Strike

Guilty gear XX#R
King of Fighters (particularly 98, 2002, 2003, and we recently got KoFXI at our arcade this past monday)
SFA3
Breakers Revenge
some VF4 Evo
Rage of the Dragons
Melty Blood React (Japanese fan made fighter)

We play alot more fighters, I bring my laptop to the arcade for my friends to play other fighters on just in case they dont feel like playing what's at the arcade.

Well, in the original SF2, a talented Guile player could be a total nightmare. He had several re-dizzy combos, and his Fierce-Fierce-Sonicboom-Backfist was freaking demonic. Basically if you jumped a fireball and landed that one hit, the match was done.

They toned him down a LOT in CE, Turbo, and so on.

Oh yeah, who remembers Guile's handcuffs, shadow throw, statue move, etc? He was the h4x0r character lmao.

Christmas came early this year... I attended a company party today... a new videogame magazine is going to hit newstands in Spring 2006. Be ready for it. A LOT of it's features will focus on FIGHTING GAMES... the first issue should have TEKKEN 5 DARK RESURRECTION and Dead or Alive 4 with in depth strats/information on the game... think Arcadia and Japan... that's the direction we're going towards... but anyways... more about the party... look what I got today! The CEO freakin' loves his employees...

3 Hori Arcade sticks...(and if you know me, I'm a huge fan/collector of arcade sticks).... Dead or Alive 4 stick for the 360, Fighting Stick EX for the Xbox, and the GCN Fighting Stick... :)

The Hori Real Arcade Pro 2 arcade stick... the most beautiful fuckin retail stick in my opinion...

Ive always been a 2-D fighter enthusiast at heart.

currently my 2 favorite "pure" 2-d fighters are Capcom vs SNK 2 (PS2) and Streetfighter 3:third strike (DC)

My review of Capcom vs SNK 2 PS2 version from my blog:

----------------------------------------------------------

My review for Capcom vs. SNK 2 PS2 version:

This is old-school 2-D fighting at its best with perfect controls, incredibly arcade perfect fluid animation and hit detection that has all been honed to perfection over the years by the 2-D gods at Capcom and SNK.

The PS2 version of Capcom vs. SNK 2 is the one to have for any true 2-D fighting game enthusiast (the few of us that are left lol) since the dualshock works nicely with all 2-D fighters including the many that were released on PSone and faaaar outperforms the Xbox controller-s and I wont even mention the Gamecubes terrible D-pad on an otherwise solid controller.

Those of us that still prefer the so-called "old school" 2-D fighters have never came as close to perfection as Capcom vs. SNK 2 for a pure fighting experience that contains the best of the best from both the Capcom universe including Streetfighter,Darkstalkers and SNK universe including the King of Fighters Fatal Fury and Samurai Shodown it therefore is a 2-D fighters wet dream in every possible way.

The fact that you can create your own custom GROOVE is an awesomely sweet addition ala air blocks, rolls, dash, countermoves etc is all up to you and your preferance of 2-D fighting.

Graphics are great on all 3 systems but unfortanetely the Gamecube version has lower quality backgrounds and the standard GC controller is a nightmare for any of those used to the SNES,Playstation or even Xbox controllers so I suggest picking up the PS2 addition if at all possible over the other 2 systems.

Capcom vs. SNK 2 is truly the pinnacle of 2-D fighting after many many years of polish and experimentation from both Capcom and SNK although I have to give credit where credit is due thankx to CAPCOM for creating this ultimate version that has (arguably) yet to be surpassed.

Honerable mention goes to Streetfighter3:third strike PS2/Dreamcast for some of the most beautiful handrawn animated sprites ever created.

Heres hoping for a final installment of the series on Xbox360 or PS3 but if this does happen to be the last Capcom vs. SNK what a way to go!

Fellow 2-D gamers take note that there have recently been rumors and even a small statement from Capcom that they are working on Streetfighter 4 so keep those fingers crossed.

I don't suppose you've ever seen a good Iori or Terry.

I also felt you gave too much credit to Capcom Vs. SNK 2. Lots of grooves, yeah, but the game didn't feel right to me. It felt horribly slow. Audio and visual had me aching, as well.

Now Darkstalkers 3 and KOF98 - those are games I love. Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 wins for combos, but the audio drives me crazy.

Hey to each his own.

in fact Iori is my third favorite 2-D fighter after Sagat and Ryu and one of the few SNK fighters that I use on a regular basis.

Ill give SNK its due credit but if you wanna talk true perfected 2-D fighting Capcom is the way to go IMO.

I'm also not a big fan of Capcom VS SNK 2, the game is very unbalanced and doesn't feel like it should. The animation doesn't correspond well to the in game physics, so there are many awkward misses and really annoying countering issues.

I myself have been into fighters since Street Fighter 2 was new in the arcades. I then got into Neo Geo and never looked back!

My favorites are pretty much any SNK game (none of the Playmore ones, they just aren't very good), but I especially like Garou : MotW, Real Bout FF Special, KOF96, 98, 99, Samurai Shodown 1-4.

I also enjoy alot of Capcoms games, The SFZ series, Darkstalkers is awesome, and the first two games in the VS series (I loathe MvC and MvC2), and their Street Fighter III series is kickass also.

Oh god I don't know why but that reminds me of the very different art sytle in C vs S2. What the hell was morigan doing in there? She looked like crap compared to all the other sprites there was others as well but damn she looked bad. Plus the name switching on some of Capcoms own charictors. Or was that on C vs S mf 2000? Damn cant remember.

The CPS2 characters were really badly enlarged to match the resolution of the Naomi or whatever it was running on. The same problem is in Marvel VS Capcom 2, the older CPS2 characters are all blocky and shakily animated.

Although I still ike Darkstalkers, Marvel Vs. Capcom 2, and Street Fighter Alpha 3. Oh, and Street Fighter II.

I didn't care much for CvS2 for a long time, but it eventually grew on me. Using a P-Groove M. Bison, Guile, and Kim Khapwhan is too much fun. I do agree that Capcom is getting sloppy though. The sprites in CvS2 and Capcom Fighting Jam/Evolution are very pixelated, and CFE seems like nothing more than a sloppy cut-&-paste job.
Not only that, but that goddamn Morrigan sprite needs to be retired once and for all.

I've pretty much lost all hope in Capcom and 2D fighters. I'm pissed that the PS2 Vampire/Darkstalkers collection didn't come out in North America, and I'm not about to mod my PS2 just for one game, especially since I have VS for the Saturn, and VC for the DC.

At least I have my Street Fighter Zero 3 for the Saturn, which is my favorite fighter of all-time, and other classics like the Darkstalkers games.

As far as 3D fighters go, I only really care about VF4:Evo, and Tekken 3 and 5. I generally dislike 3D fighters, especially Dead or Alive, regardless of how gorgeous it is.

I used to be obsessed with fighting games, and I hardly ever play them at all any more. It just seems like the genre has really tapered off and lost its luster to me. The only fighter that's on the horizon I'm remotely interested in is VF5.

Since day one.
Go to most fighting game forums and that's the general concensus. The game has that stigma for a reason.

It has that Stigma but it's hardly fair. Most fighters look at the 3 button controls and say it's purely for Mashers. but try Playing DOA4. If you try playing with an open mind you'll see it's an excellent fighter. There is plenty of depth and the reversal system sperates the buttons masshers from the true gaming gods.

I did this yesterday using the K-Groove with Dodge(Line Sway) and Parrying. When I used the groove it seemed too easy. I mean if I parry or get hit my gauge builds and pretty fast at that. Then you unleash a super that does a lot of damage. I was using Ryu and did his Shinku-Hadouken and it took off about 70-75% damage. My brother was shocked. I can't imagine using that groove with Ult. Rugal.

Ahh, fighting games. It's pretty much the reason I got back into video games big time . When SF2 came out I went back to seriously increasing my collection of video games especially Neo Geo as it's a big time fighters' system. If the genre didn't exist, I serously doubt I'd be playing video games that much as it's all I play like 90% of the time I'm playing video games.

I always picked Guile because he was so Van Damme, and just to go against the grain. I've gotten pretty good with him over the years.

Isn't Guile the most powerful and unbalanced character of the core SF2 games? You can combo like a motherfucker if you buffer your moves...he's damn near unstoppable in the hands of a skilled player.

I TOTALLY AGREE!!!! I just go on the defensive crouch position everytime I use him. You can charge it any time even when you are jumping at your opponent. From the defensive crouch you can throw out the Sonic Boom or do the jack knife. Simply do a couple of kicks or punches at your opponent while you are charging it then let out a jack knife or Sonic Boom. DEFINITLELY THE MOST POWERFUL CHARACTER IF SOMEONE KNOWS HOW TO USE HIM!!!!

I think they realized how powerful he was and toned him down in subsequent games especially Charlie in the Alpha series where I feel like his jack knife doesn't have the reach that it did in the SF games.
