I want to get some gaming magazines, but I don't really know what to get. I don't have any of the newest generation consoles, so a retro-istic magazine would be better. But I still want to know your favorites.

I really enjoyed the single issue of Electronic Fun and Games in my collection. I'd love to get more of them, or at least have access to a site with scanned pages from the magazine.
Video Games and Computer Entertainment is fabulous as well... it wasn't as flashy as its competitors but on the other hand it wasn't as obnoxious. Stay away from Blip!, though... it's a short-lived video game publication from Marvel Comics that is just too stupid and pandering to enjoy. I've heard bad things about Creem's Vidiot as well.

I don't know of any retro magazines, but my favorite magazine has to be Electronic Gaming Monthly. Very funny magazine that spans over all the next gen consoles.

Though they don't have the best retro coverage they at least have a little:

Well, here in Argentina there are a lot of magazines, and also from all around Southamerica, for example, a few years ago, i love GamePro (in spanish), then i like Next level (argentinian magazine), but the point is that nobody know nothing about classic vg. Micro mania are an excellent spanish magazine also.

Top three(not in order):
EGM
Tips and Tricks
Play
:D
Game Informer- the reviews/ratings always match exactly what I think! I told 2 of the editors so after meeting them in a bar before their band played. The magazine is published here (Minneapolis) & they have "Classic GI" each month w/ a feature story, retro reviews & retro hints & tips! Check it out!

I buy just 2 each month:
EGM for the consoles
PC Gamer for the computer games
Game Informer is also good but they have tons of previews and mainly short reviews. 8-)

I like EGM...Tips and Tricks sucks, the only good thing about it is the collectors closet. :-D

I like ALL the old magazines from the early 80's like Electronic Games, Electronic Fun, VG Illustrated, Video Games, Joystik and others. They all have pro and cons to them, but as a group they compliment each other very nicely.
I have a nice large collection (if I do say so myslef! 8-) ), and you can see cover scans at my site:

If there was a special request for a particular article in a particular magazine, it is possible I could scan it if necessary.

To me mags aint what they used to be back when i was younger, they were thicker, had less ads, and the release dates for games were exact most of the time. Now,mags have less pages ,more adds ,some cost more, and the release dates are waaaaaay off.Now I just stand in the store and read each mag in 5minutes ,time consuming yet cheaper so i don't get ripped off (haven't bought a mag in 2yrs)Anyways,my favs would have to be next gen, egm, game informer

I agree, Biggamer, vid mags have lost a lot of credibility in my eyes. I have most of the Nintendo Power from the second issue to a little past #100, and I have seen a decline in content. You used to get great tips and maps in the mags. Now you mostly get big ads. But still, I started this thread to find out if there were any mags with credibility left to them because I would like to start getting some again.
