I've really, I mean REALLY been craving some Metal Slug asd of late. I've got the first NGPC game but I want to play one of a console. I'd like to get a NG AES or CD but I don't have near enough money. So I was wondering how much as used Xbox's now? How good are the MS and other SNK games? And is it WORTH IT? Thanks.

Is the Xbox worth it? Hell yeah, it makes a killer DVD player!! LOL

Kidding aside, it's a great system. The big titles are BIG. In other words, when the Xbox shines, it shines really well. There are some pretty important games on the system. If you've never played one before, you might actually end up liking stuff like Halo, regardless of hype! Most games on the Xbox have extra polish to them. The eye candy is nicer. And as far as the DVD playing is concerned? It's nice to have a system that can actually endure multi-usage without breaking down.

With the 360 around the corner, you should be able to score a used Xbox for really cheap.

No to mention if you're a die hard Neo-Geo fan that you can mod it and emulate all the classics.

I'm not to happy about having to buy a remote in order to watch DVD's. Seems like a lame way to push an accessory on someone.

Do all games save on the HD (for save files)?

the port of Metal Slug 3 is the same as the Japanese PS2 version but with limited continues, IIRC. The added modes are great and the level select is a godsend for practicing stages. Slick interface, too.

I've heard really good things about Metal Slug 5, but I've yet to play it. I didn't like Metal Slug 4 at all (really lazy design), but apparently they pulled through with the 5th one.

You really can't go wrong with an Xbox these days. You can pick up a used one from Gamestop (Gamestop refurbished) for $100 or you can get a Microsoft refurbished one for $130. The controller is great for 2d action games (good button layout, really comfortable and percise digital pad, nice form factor), so you'll be golden for whatever other 2d games you wind up picking up.

There's not much reason to get an AES unless you like blowing relatively insane amounts of cash on single games, but if money isn't a barrier for you then by all means go for it. I don't recommend the CD, however (and I think the last Metal Slug they did for NeoCD was 2, right?). The load times are really prohibitive, unfortunatly (the common addition of better and/or more music doesn't really offset it) :(

I agree that it sucks, but it was a necessary evil to bring the price of the core system down by offsetting the licensing fees to the remote. You can pick up used remotes these days for $10 or so, and they're super handy and nice for navigating through Xbox Media Center, which is a must-have application (and the reason why many people, including myself, mod their xboxes)

Probably by mid 2006. There won't be enough 360s in distibution to displace Xbox1s in homes on a large scale until then.

Some of this depends on how well the Xbox1 emulation turns out, if it's only like 50-60% of titles, then people will be more likely to just keep their old Xbox.

If you soft-mod your Xbox, you can burn DVDs of NeoGeo and SNK arcade games along with an Xbox port of the arcade emulator, MAME. Not only that, but you can do the same for most other console gaming systems. I use my Xbox more for watching XVIDs and playing emulated games than I use it for playing Xbox games.

It's worth it, I got Metal Slug 3, it's perfect like the AES/MVS. Yet the only difference is you have to reset the entire stage when you hit continue....That will also make your skills tough as nails if you can get through.

Xbox is an SNK lovers paradise this year especially with KOF02/03, Samurai Shodown V, SVC Chaos, Metal Slug 3, Metal Slug 4/5, and KOF 94 Re-bout. Yet next year we have KOF NeoWave on the way.

Plus with XBOX LIVE you can battle all your favorite friends from DP and other sites that you are well aware of whenever you feel like it! :)

I see the xbox being the retrogaming system of choice in the future. Mod or no mod, the system has a diverse library from retro titles to system link paradise. I do have to say the SNK support of the system has been insane, and it looks like the best is yet to come... Samurai Showdown V!!!!!!

Hmm...guess I'll have to get an original Xbox to call my own sometime, but right now getting a LE 360 is a priority! Well...a priority, among other...priorities. Definitely won't say that a $50 Xbox sounds bad, of course.

Althought I don't have many games for the Xbox right now (Hopefully get a couple for christmas or buy some) I would definately recommend one. I had a playstation for a few years, and then my house was hit by lightning. I ended up getting money back for the ps2 and found a used xbox at a pawn shop for 100 dollars with 2 games. I'm very happy with the system and can't wait to get more games to see what all it's got to offer.
