I kid you not. I'm not a big fan of the movie, but this game was absolutely a blast to play. You basically control some made up character by Rock star and lead your gang of The Warriors to the objectives you're assigned. You will change and play with other characters as well throughout the game. What I LOVE about this game is the complete randomness of things.
Like, when I pissed off some gang members, we got into a huge brawl. We just destroyed the gang members easily and walked away from them. While I was walking away, one of the alive gang member runs right up to me from behind and smashes a freakin bottle and shatters it on my head and knocks me out. One of my crew runs up to that guys and just whams him with a baseball bat, and a 4 on 1 beatdown ensues. Just awesome.
Another cool happening, me and my crew went up to a building where I had to do some spray painting there. Some rival gang members followed us there. 2 of my crew just freaking tackled the guys off the roof all the way down the ground! One guy came behind me and knocked me out. I got back up, punched him in the face, kneed him in the stomach 2 times, headlock takedown his ass to the ground, elbowed his face 3 times, picked him up, and threw him off the roof onto the streets. He dead.
The only negative thing I can think of this game is that sometimes it's too dark in some areas, and some people will get turned off by the repetitive brawling. But let me tell you, this is best brawler game I've ever played in a looooong, long time. You can also jack car stereos, rob stores, rob money from people, etc... I prefer this game to any GTA game Rockstar has ever done. There's a cool feature called a rumble mode where you get your gang of people and take on the other gang in this huge empty lot where bottles, bats, and trash cans are all over the place. GOD I LOVE THIS GAME! Buy it, rent it. Whatever, just get it and play it. You'll love it. Can you dig it?
The ultimate stress reliever. 9/10 rating.

I got this but can't play it until I finish Skies of Arcadia :(
I simply adore the movie but I was worried the game would suck since it was coming from a team that had previously been responsible for a bad port of a good game (Max Payne) and a good port of a bad game (Oni). It wasn't until a week or two ago that I found out that before Rockstar swallowed them up, Angel Studios was responsible for Resident Evil 2 on N64.
It's nice to see that the game came off so well done. I've only spent a little time in the boppin mode, and I think it's impossible to fully grasp just how much i filled the cup when I saw that the Baseball Furies were one of the default unlocked gangs. I smashed some fuckers with bricks and cinderblocks for a while and then had to turn it off before I wound up playing it and leaving Skies of Arcadia on the back burner for even longer (god, I've have the Gamecube version for 2 years already and just NOW started playing it ....never got around to playing the Dreamcast version :( ).
Anyway, I was dicking around with my scanner a little while ago and wanted to see how this ad would crop...now I wish I had taken a few seconds to put a black sheet of paper behind it in the first place. I'll have to rescan it tomorrow :(

RE2 N64 was pretty impressive. There are entire essays written about how they actually managed to pull it off.
Anyways on to the warriors, i think Rockstar toronto must have truely been in love with the movie because the game is a flawless retelling.
Scenes that appear in the movie are recreated shot by shot in the game however some are trimed for time. Still there's nothing like watching cyrus entire speech re-reendered for the game. Unbeleivable.

I watched the intro and was floored with the presentation. I couldn't believe just how perfect it looked. The character models and all look a bit basic on the PS2, but god damn if they didn't get the visual style and everything locked down just right.
Thanks to ya'll, I'll be saying, "Waaaarriorrrrrrs....come out to plaaaaaaay" for the rest of the night :(

Sounds like a cool game, never really heard of this before. Can you recruit as many gang members as possible? or what?

Yeah i'm actually amazed that i can pick out ever indiviual Warrior by name. Even the somewhat generic Fox.
As for being stuck repeating Luther's line all night, well i've been saying can you dig it, three times over all month. i mean come on Can you dig it?
Can you dig it?
Caaaannnn yoooouuu dig it?

Sorry Double post, but since it's here.

You can unlock gang members for rumble mode but you don't really recuirt them.
You have your 9 Warriors and that's it, well until you're into the movie part of the game. Really the game is all about defending your turf from rival gangs and getting your name out there.
However if you really pay attention you'll pick up on the game's subtle undertones and the various references the the days of the anicent greeks.
The game also highlights The Warriors intrapersonal relationships and truely explores and developes the characters, even the smaller ones like Fox and Rembrant.
It's a truely unique experience. Everything from the simple tagging system to Ajax shouting, "What are you a faggot?" the game captures you.
Proof that good movie games can be made as long as you're loyal to the source.

Ahaha I simply love this game.
Coming from a fan of beat em ups such as Streets of Rage and Final Fight this is an amazing game. This is the game that actually brought me back into modern console gaming.

[Already beaten to the answer, but anyway] The movie had The Warriors trying to get across New York intact and alive to their home turf after one of their members was framed for the murder of an important guy who wanted to unite all of New York's gangs.
Actually a pretty fascinating idea there.
Anyway, the official website is awesome; you can spend fifteen minutes to half an hour just clicking around and finding movies to watch. Great stuff.
I've had high hopes for this one since I read about it recently, and I'm pleased to hear that it's likely to meet my expectations.
This is great news. Since it was a gang related game done by Rockstar, I was considering it. Any other developer would have had me thinking otherwise. It's a classic movie and even so, I was afraid that it MIGHT have turned out to be another disappointing movie game. I shall be picking this one up for sure. :D

I played an hour an a half of it, I wasnt too impressed.
Especially the fact that snorting cocaine to regain health was never in the movie.
Im gonna try to return The Warriors and buy Call of duty 2 instead.

I was thinking about picking this one up, maybe after the first price drop. I won MK: Shaolin Monks in a contest and it's got me back into brawlers and this one looked great (although I have no interest in the movie tie-in, just like a good beat em up).
This game looks good and sounds like a total blast to play.
I intend to pick it up soon.

I didn't know about the movie until I saw the ads for the game. I rented the movie and loved it!
I'm playing through the game now - and there are two things that I love about this game:
Playing in story mode, you can have a friend (or wife) hop in and play along with you at just about any point in the game.
The AI for the other Warriors is awesome. They will grapple with a guy and hold him in place so you can wail on him - I don't remember any other game doing this so well.
I love this game, and will most likely play through til the end.
One question - is there any benefit to beating the high scores on each level? I missed a couple early on and don't really feel like replaying the level just to get 300 more points.

Um Trickstar they don't snort cocaine, they inject a virtual drug called flash and without it you couldn't have a health pick up. It is a game after all.

unlocks characters for rumble mode
and the "flash usage" isn't gratuitious it's part of the game...so it's not that bad

I still think it would have been cooler to put it online and be able to create a character and have you and your friends form an "online" gang and free roam to other areas to take over territory and stuff like that. but ya.

"The official "The Warriors" Kicks ass thread".
I would be the author of that one... I don't mind a new thread, one bit. This game does happen to rock some serious balls... It deserves all the attention it can get! I've gotten to 2 days before the meeting, but Civilization 4 has pretty much consumed my life as of late. But I've been told it is imperative to finish story mode.
The movie is on TV, as I type this :D
