I give up. I hear so much about it. Where can I see it? The one from the SNES version of the game. I've tried Google, but didnt find anything close. Just a crappy 3D rendered version "from the PlayStation version of FFVI". I want to see the SNES one without having to play through the game.

Any help?

Let me see if I can record it right quick.

On a sidenote, I recorded the ending a while back, but the quality isn't the best. If you want that to hold you off, lemme know and I'll upload it in the meantime.

This is interesting. I actually have 2 dvd's of video game footage I made for some people and as a display for a store. I put many rare games on there so people could see them (like Zenki on the PC-FX, Dracula X on the PC-E, etc) but also memorable moments from certain games....and one of them being the whole opera scene from FF III/VI!. Only problem is I have no way to upload it :(

How big is the file?

What have you heard about it?That it's some sort of a big deal. Synthesized "voice" "singing", I dunno. I just want to see what all the hub-bub's about.

hezeuschrist
11-09-2005, 08:31 PM
I don't know what people would say that could make you want to see it without playing the game. I never saw anything special about it, although it's somewhat amusing based on the choices and decisions you make... I suppose a video of the scene would kind of ruin it :/

And the "singing" is just some notes, nothing resembling anything like a voice or words. Not even Street Fighter II Championship Edition for Genesis voice :/

Jasoco
11-09-2005, 08:37 PM
That's why I put "singing" and "voice" in quotes. Because it's supposed to simulate a voice singing. I know it's not real. But I'd really like to see it so I can forget all about it and move onto something else I have to see eventually... the bath tub scene in Eternal Darkness. (Don't you dare ruin that for me please. ;) I think I'll actually play through to this one.)

Well that's like 10 minutes into the game, don't have to get very far to see it.

If you haven't played FF3, you're missing out. Almost everyone agrees that it's a worthwhile experience. If you want to understand the fuss about the opera scene, I'd recommend against just viewing a video of it since you won't have any connection with the characters. I don't think it would seem very interesting out of context, but as part of the overall experience of the game it was definitely one of the highlights. Just play the game. A GBA version is supposed to be released eventually.. I hope that lots of people that missed it the first time around will give it a try.

I have a feeling you might be getting too hyped up and might be disappointed. Maybe not.

But the Opera House scene from FF6 is just one of those things that really, really stands out. It might not seem as impressive NOW, but at the time, I don't think anything had succeeded so well, from a musical standpoint, in a video game. It really pushed the limits of the SNES in terms of sound capability, at a time when video game music was treated as a sideshow.

The atmosphere was pretty great too. The way the story interwove seemlessly with the opera going on at the same time was cool. And it was something uplifting and original set in the middle of an RPG with a rather downtrodden plot.

But yeah, don't expect fireworks. It's just one of those things some people have learned to appreciate.

And now I've gone and overhyped it too. Oops.

Well, it looks like roush is working on recording it. If it's an emulator recording, the filesize should be very small, although you'd need the emulator and the rom to play it that way. If it's an actual media format, of course it'll be a lot bigger.

If it's only 10 minutes in, why am I led to believe it's like the end of the game? Sheesh. I can play for 10 minutes. In fact, I have Anthology loaded right now.

If by 3, you mean VI on the Anthology?

Also, I could seriously do without these dated crappy 3D videos. This is supposed to be a SNES game.

Call off the recordings. LOL

Ugh, recording this is a pain in the ass since I haven't played the game in so long. I'll have to cheat and give myself some stupidly overpowered stats to compensate for my inability to play this anymore, heh.

Anyway, I'm out of time and I forgot how long this scene was (not just the short singing segment that most people remember, but the entire opera scene), so here's a savestate that leaves you right outside of the opera house that I found here (http://www.mnrogar.com/save_states/llg/index.htm).

http://roushimsx.shackspace.com/Final%20Fantasy%20III%20(U).000

(cut and paste, drag and drop, whatever. If your Final Fantasy 3 rom is named anything else, you're wrong!)
Fire up the game and load save state 1. Enjoy.

I'll put some more time into it this weekend. Sorry.

The Eternal Darkness Bathtub fiasco is only 10 minutes into the game ;)

Although it's not a very long game anyways, you should play it in it's entirity because it's awesome. Same for FFVI, a great game and the the Opera scene will be that much better when you've got the background to it.

I really must play FF3 one of these days.

There was once an album (Orchestral Game Concert 3) which contained a full, orchestrated, vocalized arrangment of the opera scene from FF3. It's 20 minutes long! Never meant much to me, but I can upload it to Savefile or somewheres if people are interested.

I've got the Grand Finale CD (the orchestral one) and there is a proper rendition of the Aria Mezzo Carngdsjo or whatever with an opera singer. To be honest I found the whole Grand Finale CD very dissapointed, especially compared to the 3disc OST which is brilliant.

Again, i think the opera scene only makes sense in context with the rest of the game. The "voice" "singing" as you called it has no resemblance to a human voice whatsoever and either makes you laugh or serves to remind you that you are playing a 16bit game.

Of course you should. FF VI is the best version of Final Fantasy! Here's a Video - don't know which part - probably 3 or 4 or 5 - http://speeddemosarchive.com/FinalFantasy3.html

The Opera Scene didn't impress me. It's just a girl opening her mouth & ya hear a high-pitched pipe organ come out. Big deal (yawn). What impressed me was watching the bad guy destroy the whole world! That's never happened in other FFs!

Incidentally, those Moogle that come next, totally hilarious fun.

a number of things:

the voices were garbled INTENTIONALLY. i remember reading this back when the game was first released. speaking of which; does anyone have the two-page ad which has Mog leaning on his sword with a shitload of enemies behind him, and in the next image, a bunch of dust around him? i haven't seen that in a decade.

i like the FF6 3D graphics. my only complaint was how undetailed the final boss looked. why did the FF4 3d graphics look so horrible? it was like a half-assed art style that the rendering artist gave up on partially through.

i liked the opera scene, especially because of how you deal with a certain meddling enemy while it takes place.

It's part 4 - watching it now! This opera is a preview for Square's pre-recorded / sit-back-n-watch graphics-fests 7 and 8. OH MA-RI-A. Reminds me of early demos from Commodore - some told stories using sprites & music.

Back on TOPIC!

I'm up to the Phantom Train. Well, I was. I was dying right and left. I had already lost all my people and had to reload again so I figured I was going to have to do it again this time. But with luck I figured out how to do the silly SwordTech thing. I took four slashes at the train for like 250 each. But of course, this was no enough. I figured I was still a goner. I figured I'd start again and do it right this time... when all of a sudden, Shadow's DOG comes out. THE DOG COMES OUT AND RUNS ACROSS THE TRAIN AND TAKES 1100+ HIT POINTS FROM IT!

A DOG defeated the train! How the fuck did a DOG defeat the train? Sabin was dead on the ground, Cyan was near death. Shadow was getting close and the DOG saved the day.

Also, now that I find out the world doesn't get destroyed, I'm kinda disappointed. To me that was the real spoiler! Finding out it doesn't happen! :( :embarrassed: I was hoping for a Hitchhikers Guide/Titan AE type Earth explodes ending. ;)

Oh.. and great. Shadow just left after I finished battling these Stray Cats. So long..

"destroyed" doesn't mean the planet blows up - the bad guy would be king of - what? Nothing? Think smaller scale - "America destroyed Berlin" or "Hurricane Katrina destroyed New Orleans" or "Anakin destroyed the Jedi Council"

Shadow's dog is more like a bear. Big. 'Spose you could think of him as a Chocobo summon. Just an animal, but deadly.

Or think of him as precise... always going for the carotid artery, or in the train's case... some important hose. (?)

Okay, after taking a week off I finally went back in. Last time I played all I did was level up for 3 hours on the Southern continent next to the town with the air ship parked. Now I got them all over level 25 and I'm confident enough.. but maybe a little too confident?

Here I am going along, checking our old players guide for the Anthology and noticing that the battles for Ifrit and Shiva and Number 024 are supposed to be humongously difficult..

If they're so hard, why did I beat Ifrit in 2 minutes. Shiva never showed up to fight. (The name showed up under Ifrit right as the blue girl came into the battle to say Hi then the battle ended) And Number 024 was just pitiful. He never even used WallChange! All I did was hit him with Dispatch twice.

I don't know how good your party's magic is at the moment, but you should try leveling up your character's magic on the upper right continent of the world map when you get a chance. There's this invisible monster there (sorry, I can remembers his name at the moment) you can kill by simply casting Doom on and he'll leave your whole party 10 magic post per encounter.

Oh, and speaking of invisible mosters and Doom magic.. any monster that's invisible will be instantly killed if you cast either vanish and X-zone or vanish and Doom. It makes the game a little easy, but hey, it helps on some of the later side quests.

The battle with SHiva and Ifrit was supposed to be short because their powers were drained so they were in a weak state. And 024 well no excuse for him.

Number 128 wasn't a biig deal either. He kinda disappointed me. As did the two cranes. I think I got off way too easily.

I decided to do the side quest to get the Mog to replace my missing Natalie.. I mean Celes or whoever it is that "sacrifices" herself to allow me to leave the factory. So I got a nice Mog as the leader now. I named it "Boobie". :eek 2:

I think I've done everything I can do with this flying ship at my command. I even visited the remote town of "Thamasa". I guess too early because none of the locals seem too helpful.

Of course I now find out I need Jessica to even enter the base. (Jessica = whatever the other girls name used to be.)

A) If they didn't want people to change the names, they wouldn't put the ability in the game.

B) The only people who don't change the names are people who like to use guides and people who can't remember the original names based on what the new name is. (For instance, I named Cyan "Sky" and Shadow is "Twilight".. I used OS X's built-in Thesaurus for that one. ;))

C) The only reason I can't remember Jessica's real name is because I haven't had her in my party for a long time. And besides, there's two girls in the game, I think I can figure out which one is being referenced here.

I will change the names because I CAN. If I can't personalize the game, it's no fun. :D

I named the theif after me. And Edgar, the king of Figaro castle is "Lorik". Three guesses why. ;) And for the record, Locke is "Erdrick".

Why do you change the names? I like to stick to the defaults - then when someone says Tifa or Celes I know who they mean.

Some people like to pretend its their freinds, or themselves, in the game, might be a self confidence or other issue, or just kids stuff.

Others name characters boobie, poop, etc, as a child I renamed the characters, now I'm grown-up and realise its just a story.

Not that I'm inciting anything or somthing, I really don't want to be yelled at again, or get off topic lest I instill the wrath of somthing worse then death itself, like a stiff talking to. :eek 2:

Boobie, now that's fine. But Poop? If you name a character "Poop" something is seriously wrong with you. :P

Alright.. er All right.. er however you say it, I'm now past the house on fire and am in that mountain cave that didn't exist before. On my way to the floating continent.

In earthbound, you have to name your favoriate food, when you go home your mom will say "Why don't you go eat some poop and go to bed?"

Hmm, tempted to give you some advise about the floating continent, but it would give away somthing and you might do it correctly anyway.

Floating Continent definitly power up everyone. The other girl's name is Terra, or maybe you meant Relm.

No, I named Relm "Suzie". I did mean Terra.

Wait.. can I actually use Relm as a player?

Explain power up. I'm upwards of level 28 each already. Do I need to go HIGHER?

basically the dog ran at the train cause they all have near death abilities, that go off when the H.P. is low.

As well, does anyone know about the glitch?

Or about all of shadows dreams?

what an amazing game. People can say the FF7 is the best one ever, but FF2 (FF4) amd FF3 (FF6) are the best.

Final Fantasy 7 is the game for haters. All the haters of rpg's were converted by this one. But the hardcore rpg'ers know whatsup.

FF3's story is crazy,
the characters(control almost 20 dif. ones) are crazy,
the story thats always branching out is crazy.
Controllong 2 -3 parties at once is crazy.
Creating a team of level 99 foe everyone . . . . .priceless.

Level 28 should be plenty for the Continent. A beginner may want to be at level 30 or so. I have got through at level 23 without problems.

Now, fighting the Tenticles in Figaro Castle later on, I found that it is literally impossible to defeat them at levels lower than 25 if you don't have Sabin in your party. They basically suck you in and you can't escape at that level without dying.

Defeating the game at level 40 is not too hard. I imagine it would be difficult at levels lower than 35, though.

I always named Cloud in FF7 "Punkass". Look at the hair.

But interceptor isn't shadow's desperation attack, if you choose defend with shadow is what does that.

All I know is the train battle was very heated, I may have told Shadow to defend because the train was beating the shit out of us and it just happened. Then again I may have triggered it some other way. Either way, thank you dog. I love you dog.

Ugh.. these Adamanchut's suck so ass-like. How the fuck do you defend against SNEEZE? The damn thing blows me off the screen! Fucking ass!

And the fucking Mandrakes! HOW DO I DEFEND AGAINST RAID???

WHAT THE HELL DO I DO HERE?

HA!

Nah, jumping actually worked. Thanks! I would have never thought of it. I never used the boots in battle because I wish I could use them separately from Attack. I hate that I can only use one or the other and that Jump takes a spot on my Relics list for each character.

The Ultros battle after that was well.. weird. Nice to see I can have a fourth again. "I'm just an octopus!"

Great! LOL As far as the enemy stealing things, you can get it back if you win without them running away first. Also The pink guy is callled Chupon.

I almost actually cast Strago's "Aqua Rake" Lore on Ultros before I realized you can fight fire with fire, but I don't think an enemy who lives in water is gonna be phased by a WATER ATTACK. LOL

Duh! So I quickly switched Strago back to Fighting. (I have it set to "memory" so I don't have to choose my attack each time and forgot he was set to water. Hehehe)

And now I'm wondering if I should spend another 20 hours and beat this game before I buy Dragon Quest. I really want DQ, but I really want to beat this, and I just know if I get DQ I won't want to come back. At least not until I finish DQ, and if people are correct, DQ will take a long time to finish.

But me wantie so bad!!!!! :eek 2:

Alright. As soon as this 70's Show is overr, back to FF!! I saved and quit after the Ultros battle. Now off to the floating continent.

Personally, I would try and finish it. FF6 is a classic RPG, and I think that the second part of the game is the best part. I have so many RPGs that I never completed because I got distracted by something else.

I'm on the floating continent and I got wiped out by the damn ninja things. The dragon blew two of my guys away, but the damn ninjas went invisible at once so I did the same. Of course invisibility is no match for theirs. Ugh. Whee. I hope I'm leveled enough because there's no way back now.

Any tips on how to get passed the floating continent enemies? Preferable without dying a thousand times? I hope I have enough potions and tonics stocked. I bought 99 of each before I went to find the continent. But who knows how many I used with Ultros and such.

you can jump off the island if you need to restock your inventory and whatnot. there's a boss i recommend you do so afterward, because about three steps behind him is a cutscene and an inescapeable series of events.

Right at the beginning? If so, thanks. I'll jump and do some more preventive leveling up.

Still, any tips on how to prevent being sneezed off the screen? Or is it just inevitable? Because it's really REALLY annoying when the blown away character doesn't get the experience (Or do they?) because they got boogers all over them.

Also, Vanish.. it doesn't protect me? I thought making my two still alive characters invisible would have kept the ninjas at bay. But noooo.. apparently not. What does it do?? (It was done by the Phantom Esper.)

i'm tempted to start a thread on jiadoor's auction house. Why? I was there and got the two Espers BTW. :D If I were to buy that talking Chocobo... would it do anything for me??

Chronodriftersx

I think the jump is right before or after the Atma battle and its basically a hole in the middle of the continent with the airship hovering below. Steal genji gloves from the dragons. If you get sneezed then run the rest of your party away from the battle perhaps? The talking chocobo, you will never win it, its just one of those things.
