Well, at least there will be on the 14th of December.

Chaos Field is apparently a remake/port of a Dreamcast game, which in turn was a port from a NAOMI arcade game. It's developed by a company called MileStone, which from my research, hadn't done a SHMUP before.
The screenshots look promising, and I'm fairly certain that this game is going to be kinda difficult to track down both now and later on down the road. I saw it in the GameStop Christmas flyer--I probably wouldn't have known about it otherwise.

Good game, although as some other people have pointed out it is strange that they ported it, as the Dreamcast saw some better shooters than it.
I might be picking up the GameCube version, as I no longer have the Dreamcast version, but it isn't at the very top of my list...

I liked Chaos Field a lot, but probably because it was released on the Dreamcast.

I never put too much time into the Dreamcast version, but I might pick this one up anyway. Gotta support those US shmup releases / small dev houses / etc.
Milestone was formed by ex-Compile employees after the company shut its doors. They joined to make shmups since they loved stuff like Zanac and Aleste but they got bummed when they got stuck making endless Puyo Puyo games.
Their new game (Radirgy (http://www.mile-stone.co.jp/product/radirgy/radi_top_main.html)) looks bad ass.

Same here. I could use a good shooter for my GC...hell, I could use a good shooter or good GC game, period.

Good news, even if the game turns out having some probs in the presentation department (as some early previews point out); the shmup genre is so badly neglected (in my opinion a timeless genre) I eat up every shmup nowadays. Gradius V, Ikaruga and R-Type Final were among my best expiriences of this console generation.

I'm all over this one. I missed picking it up for the Dreamcast, and I haven't had a real reason to plug in my gamecube too lately.
Gotta love the shmups!

Is this fucking true? You're.. kidding me? I just wet my pants. Compile made the BEST shooters ever, I've missed them. I've been eyeing Chaos Field for a while now for import but with that news I would have bought it without question.. now it's coming out to the US! JOY!
*hugs his copy of Zanac Neo*

Is Chaos Field the game that's basically just a series of boss battles?
I'd have preferred a port of Border Down, but I'll take this one gladly. Besides, it's nice to have something on the Cube to look forward to, aside from Zelda.

Does it have a limited print run?
I am going to have to look into it
I've honestly never heard of it being released until now.
hmm Thanks for the info though

Hopefully, it'll actually release on that date. I believe I've heard atleast two different dates previously ignored.

Chaos Field... the worst shmup on the DC. Why didn't someone port Border Down or Zero Gunner 2 to the GC N instead? Oh well, I can't complain, even if it is the least favorite DC shmup, it's still decent. It's definately not up to Compile standards though. That new doujin looking shmup they amde where you shoot down food looks very good however.

Well, I don't know that, but here's what I can figure:
1. It's being released by the same folks that released Alien Hominid. Not a big publisher.
2. It's a SHMUP. As much as we hate to admit, it doesn't have a big audience outside the hardcore.
3. It's being released near the end of the GCN's life cycle, when attention is focused on the new system(s) launching.
I think those three criteria make speculating this title's future rarity more than valid.
Of course, when people usually jump on games they think will be rare, they don't end up being so.

The screenshots from that game look awesome. That would be a game I would definately pick up if I had a GC. I've really been craving a gamecube lately, but I doubt I'll get one any time soon.

It's been out for ages in Japan... surprised it's eventually getting a US release, but I suppose after the "success" of Ikaruga they might try another vertical scroller on the Cube.

I'd been following this for a while, though the date seems to have changed. It was originally scheduled for next week. Anyway, this is good news for me since both Mario Kart and Sonic Rush come out next week. It would have been tight trying to pick up all 3.

I wouldn't get my hopes up too high for those that haven't played it yet. It has a bit "different" gameplay from usual shmups (boss battles only etc). I don't really like it, but then again, I never liked Ikaruga :/ But hey, getting any shmup at all on the Cube is good enough ^^

To quote Wayne;
"Intensity, in ten cities!"
"Oh yes - she WILL be mine"
"Schwing!"
Other than that all I can say is YUMMY **drools**
More shmups please!
If my opinion is hard to nail down... um... let's just say that...

I've played the Dreamcast version, and it's really not all that great a game. In fact, out of all the Jap-only DC shooters, I'd say Chaos Field is the worst of them all. Considering the lack of shooters on the Gamecube, it's probably worth picking up, but don't be too surprised if you don't like it all that much.

I'm not a huge shooter fan, but I do play them once in a while, and since I like to support the GC and small publishers I'll pick it when it becomes a bit cheaper.
Now when are they gonna port Strikers 1945 to the Cube?
