Apparently they just got over 100 new copies in a couple days ago from some !mysterious! wherehouse find. They appear to be just opening them up and selling them as used, like those Persona 2 copies they had a couple of weeks ago{speculation} Anyway the coupon code for 25% off is: 25PO25

This is quite possibly do to guitar hero being released this week and that games seems headed for cult status.

I'm quite torn should I get another or not. I really get bummed by products being rereleased. Gitaroo man held a special place in my heart being such a rare overlooked gem. I probably won't buy it. Once something is rereleased they start popping up everywhere and become too common.

Persona 2 and Rhapsody got me one day out on the hunt.
I walk into a gamestop and see those 2 games in mint condition and thought I had hit the find of the week and they charged a premium dollar amount for both games. The next week and every one since I have seen those 2 games at all the gamestops in my area about 7. Boy did I feel gaffled.

Anybody think this will end up being like the persona 2/ rhapsody crisis? or is this a limited re release....
I am guessing it has been re released in good amounts because of the recent rumors of a GM2 coming stateside, they wanna push this one back out to help sell the #2.

Anybody know where to order one of these new reprints online? I'd hate spending $44.99 (what GS website sez now) to get something that's available for $50 new, especially when GS sells in unknown condition.

And I live overseas, so I can't just wander into a store....

Well they have a 25% off coupon so its more like the $36 Rikimaru mentioned.

I ordered one a couple days ago...I was a little worried because gamestop doesn't guarantee boxes and manuals, but since its a reprint, its almost certain they will have them. We shall see when it gets here.

Well these are used copies so yes...but if you mean the ones showing up in stores NEW, then according to CAG, people are finding them without the security tags...just as you would most of the new PS2 games. A definite reprint.

Official vs. aftermarket seal was the issue. Crisis might be a bit over-the-top, but it was a concern.

I think because rerelease takes the shine off having a rare collectable game and it kills the joy of the hunt. Gamestop slides the game into the stock like a trade in. When I saw rhapsody and persona2 at the store for the first time in a long while I thought someone traded them in and I struck gold. So I paid like 70.00 for both when the true worth plummeted with the rerelease. People got burned trying to collect resident evil 2 and 3 for the gamecube and dragonball z final bout for psx. The gitaroo man game will arrive in new and mint condition I am almost certian of it.

There are always the people that say I buy games to play not to collect . I do both. I just hope valkrye profiles doesn't get rereleased.

My preferance would be you get the game while it was out in its initial run or you hunt for it and find the good deal.

Look at FF Tactics about 6 or 7 years ago. It was so rare it was selling for 150- then they rereleased it with a second printing- then a GH version. Anyone with a "rare" original was pissed because the value was instantly lost- I have a friend who paid a lot for his- only to see the rerelease a few weeks later. Same thing basically with Suikoden 3, after the original release the value started climbing, then all of a sudden- rerelease!
Why does this seem to be predominately a Sony thing? I can't think of any games this happened to on XB or any Nintendo system.
The only 1 on GC I can think of that actually caused a stir was the rerelease of Resident Evil 2.

Actually Resident Evil 3 and Cubivore were re-released on the GC as well.

Can't even think of any valuable OOP Xbox games that would be worth re-printing besides Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 but it can't because of rights issues.

Actually:
Gitaroo-Man (Reprint) Koei 07/05/02 JP

That's for the JP version and it's been listed like that for years. But, I'm glad they re-printed it. It's a great game (best original soundtrack with different genres ever!) and now everyone has a chance to play it. Plus I need one to replace my scratched-to-hell original version, anyways.

The way I will think of it is this. I payed $50 used for a (fairly great condition) used copy a few days ago, but I will just pretend I bought it for that price when it was first launched 8-)
I dont think the game is worth spending the $100+ people were paying for it, but it is a damn fun game (addictive as well). Its rare when a game kicks my ass multiple times over and over but I still have fun trying to beat the damn level.

Also...gregorio III is one creepy guy....

I fully understand your concern and at the same time I'd feel a bit bummed about the value dropping on it as well if it got rereleased (though I did get it for a steal at "just" $35), but at the same time I think that the game is so damn good that it SHOULD be reprinted so that it can be enjoyed by more people.

Maybe not reprinted on PS1, but maybe as a budget single disc PS2 game or something. I don't know, I'm just talking out of my ass at this point, but I really wish more casual gamers could get their hands on it and see what a brilliant little gem it is.

On topic...

Rikimaru : Thank you so much for raising the bat signal on this one. Just got home with a copy and I'm happy to finally slide it into my collection.

Cubivore was just re-released.

I don't know, maybe it's me but the only reason I can see for people getting pissed about re-releases is for elitist, selfish reasons.

I purchased a sealed Gitaroo Man myself a few weeks ago for a pretty penny. Now I can get a copy of it for almost half price. Sure, it was lousy timing on my part but who knew it was going to be re-released? My feeling about it now is hey, shit happens but I'm not going to get bent out of shape over it.

BTW, I just read in EGM that they're releasing a sequel to Gitaroo Man. Perhaps that's why they re-released the original, to generate interest.

I've been thinking the same thing. I spent a good deal of money finding Valkyrie Profile, but I'd be very happy if it were re-released. It's a great game, and people should play it.

Now, if they rereleased some obscure, terrible game that's super rare, like the Smurfs SMS game from Europe, or something silly like that, then yeah, that'd suck for anyone who actually had one.

But Gitaroo Man, Persona 2, Rhapsody, Cubivore... I'm happy they got a reprint.

You can call it what you want but truth be told if all games every made had been rereleased the dp site would be half as popular also you can toss the dp guides out the window because what would it be worth?

In my eyes anything can be collectable, baseball cards, games systems, dolls it is all about the person collecting.

I personally like to play and collect video games. I just think when games are released people have ample time to buy the games new used, whatever and support the developer. A few years ago when I would read about someone scoring a dragonball z final bout complete for psx for 30 dollars I was like you lucky son of a gun. Or someone driving 50 plus miles to snag that rare title they have been looking for day in and day out. It a high only a collector /player would understand. To turn around and see it rereleased just plain sucks.

Gamestop is notorious for the getting reprints new and selling them as used to capitolize on the craze the collectors started. They will slowly slide one in at each store like persona 2 was so when the collectors who don't know see it will jump on it at there premium asking price. Fact is gitaroo man is the same game as it was when it was released nothing new. If it wasn't for the player / collector screaming about how hard the game was to get and the fact that is was a good game it would have gone the way of victorious boxers.

I believe the player /collector has a right to be a little upset. I believe the player/collector is more involved in the industry they are out there day and night wheeling and dealing & playing. Call it what you want selfish elitist in the end we all are. The collector / player supports the industry good and bad. I know the game developers/companies have a right to make money. This topic can go on for years. Two months ago someone if I recalled was offering up a sealed final fantasy 7 non gh for gitaroo man.Ouch I wonder how he feels? I would certianly understand his pain.

I sold mine a little over 2 months ago for $85 (Amazon) and while I'm happy I made it in time to be able to reap a great reward (I paid $10 brand new), I'm also happy for those that will be able to play the game now that wouldn't have been able to previously since it was so damned hard to find.

Paid $65 for mine over the summer. Kind of wishing I'd waited, but I didn't overpay that much. And besides, the game is great.

Welcome for the news, but the link seems to work for me. :image: Anyway, if you have a Fry's in your area they seem to be getting in brand new copies of the game and are selling them for $39.99. Reprints for all!
