Ok, there was this game I used to play back in school a long, long time ago. It was a dumb game but basically you had to navigate a character through a bunch of overhead mazes. You had a few tools to use. You could leave muddy footprints behind so you could backtrack through the maze. Also, I believe you could lay out some string as you went along to also help get through the maze. I believe score was kept too.

EDIT: I also remember that there was a top ten score kept.

EDIT: I don't remember the computers used then, but it may have been an Apple or something. The year was probably 1989 and the computers were almost new to the school that year.

There was also another game I played all the time on it....it was this math game where you answered math questions as fast as you could and then at the end it would give you a score listed in miles per hour.

I played the game in computer lab back in the very late 80's or early 90's. Other games were like Oregon Trail, Number Munchers and stuff like that.

Much appreciation to the person who can name this title. It's been bugging the heck out of me. LOL

Sorry, I don't know the name of the game but it sounds fun and interesting to me. I would like to know the name, also.

Anyone have a guess?

Yes, I remember that one distinctly. If you navigated the maze successfully, you were given the title of "Knight of Cheddar" or some such. I believe there was also a sort of cryptogram game included in which you had to decode the patterns bees were flying in. (Bit complex for grade schoolers, that last one.)

Danged if I remember the title, though.

Don't have a clue. From the description, it sounds like exactly the kind of game I would've loved to play at the time though.

Maybe try searching here...

Good source for old PC games, many you can download as well.

Hope this helps!

Rather than Underdogs, I would suggest looking at the Virtual Apple archive.

Either that, or if there's a big list of MECC games out there, it's probably on it.

I sort of remember that game as well, I think, I used to play it back in the mid eighties at school on the Mac Plus.

If it was the same game, there were top down levels with a mouse navigating a maze and your cursor was a piece of cheese. I may be mixing up games, but I believe between every level there was a door, and when you answered math problems correctly, the door opened a bit until it was completely open, and onto the next maze.

I hope I'm remembering correctly, and I hope it's the same game :)

I'm going a bit off-topic, but the Learning Company games were pretty darn good (as far as I remembered - but I think they should have aged pretty well; there were some platforming elements). I've got one of them (Super Solvers: Midnight Rescue), though there's a bunch out there.

No, there was definitely no math problems involved - just straight maze navigating.

I thought I might get somewhere googling "Knight of Cheddar", but for some reason there's a whole mess of odd pages that comes up which Google says were linked to with the words "Knight of Cheddar". Bizarre...

I remember a game, I believe it was called Chip's Challenge. I actually don't remember anything about it, aside from the fact it was overhead view and you were this small character who went through mazes and stuff. Sorry, but it came to my head with your description, and it probably isn't it.

Chip's Challenge is mid-90's, probably newer than this guy was thinking.

Haha. Oops. After being a little intrigued as to whatever happened to that game, I did some searching and was eventually able to download it.

Wow, that game is NOTHING like the one he described. I must have been on something o_O
