"The Secret Of Vulcan Fury" (http://gaming.trekpulse.com/secretofvulcanfury/)

With the untimely passings of both DeForrest "Dr. McCoy" Kelley & James "Scotty" Doohan [RIP De Forrest & James ....] another game with TOSers is now impossible.

Will this sure-to-have-been-classic masterpiece finally get touched-up & released?

Later!

Yes, this was a game I was looking forward to. There was a preview trailer of it at the start of Judgement Rites for the PC (I THINK it was JR).

However, I don't ever see the game getting released. Why?

1) The game code. One reason the game was never released, according to Interplay, was that they were'nt happy with either the game engine or the quality of the graphics (this was in early to mid 90's) and kept tinkering with it before canceling it all together. Said game would not only be REALLY outdated today, but it was probaly designed to run under DOS or Windows 95 -- just about impossible to get to run on today's systems without major work

2) Interplay no longer has the TOS licence. Back in the day they made several TOS games, but then when it expired Paramount awarded it to Activison. Now Activision no longer has the ST rights either, meaning who actually owns the code and source of the game is a question mark.

3) The nature of the game itself. From what I remember, it was designed as a grand avdenture game, similar but even larger and detailed then 25th Anniversary and Judgement Rites, from a day and age when those kinds of games were made in the hundreds and sold well for the PC. Now that genre is almost dead, reduced to small releases here and there. I can't see even a modern game like this selling well.

And what's REALLY too bad, from what I hear, is that all the voice recording for the game was completed and finished! :(

Oh well.

I've put a much more comprehensive "The Secret Of Vulcan Fury" (http://gaming.trekpulse.com/secretofvulcanfury) webite link in the message.

Watch the trailer, see the E3 demos, read the designer interview & much much more!!

It's the one I wanted ta put in yesterday, but, for whatever reason, the website wasn't workin'. lol
It is now.

Enjoy!

Untimely?

Have I missed something? I thought it was Vuclan Fury in action...

Anyhow, back on to the topic (and before I find another "Best (Blank) Ever!"). I like Star Trek, I like adventure games. The fact that the company had to use the same trailer twice after a year's worth of extra development must surely say a lot and doesn't really inspire confidence? Also, why does Scotty not sound like Scotty in the third one?

I guess that if the voice work was all done and of a suitable quality, and you had *exactly* the script that you wanted to use then you could start afresh on the rest of the game. Unfortunately, I don't really see that happening unless somehow crazed fangroups get hold of the recording and get to it themselves. It would be cool to be Kirk again, in any genre really. I want a game all about shooting rubbery looking monsters and seducing green women really, but this would do.

I'm a recovering Trek addict, and even I can admit De Kelly, and Jimmy Doohan's deaths, though sad, were not really untimely.

Jimmy Doohan was 80, and DeForest Kelly was 79.

Anyway, that lipsynch video test is the funniest thing I've seen this month. LOL
