I just ordered the USB connector from Nintendo and thought I would share that it is now available for purchase. I went to the Nintendo.com Store yesterday and it said "Coming Soon" but today it's ready to ship.
I called before I made the purchase to ask what stores would be carrying it because I may want to just go pick it up and avoid the wait and shipping cost but they didn't know. The girl said it may only be available from Nintendo, anyone know about this? Anyway, mine is on the way and I can't wait! Here is the link if you need to order one:

Wouldn't it be better to just get a wireless router?

some people dont really need a wireless router. like if you only have one computer, why the hell would you spend more for a wireless router when you just plan to use your ds with it?

You'd also have to drop the security on the router down to a lower level to support the wireless functionality the DS supports. You might not want to do that.

Actually, a wireless router can be gotten for cheaper than the Nintendo Dongle.
Also, the DS has a MAC address, so all you have to do is grant it access to the router.

So I already have a wireless router that I don't use.....but wouldn't I want the DS USB thing instead anyway? I don't have anything to hook the router to, and all I want wireless for is to play the DS with Animal Crossing anyway.... thoughts?

What I would like to see is for someone to hack this wireless router so that special promo Pokemon, Nintendogs things, and all that can be sent to the DS without Nintendo's say-so.
Is there a way to test out the NDS wi fi connection with a wirless router without a game? Its a shame there isnt an instant Wi fi interface built in to the nintendo ds, or one that you can download from the wi fi site. I would like to be able to at least access the wi fi funcionality on my ds without a game, being that there is only one wi fi game out there and I dont like skating games.

Just ordered myself one.
I think the USB Adapter is a much better choice from me, because it means i can get online with my DS anywhere there's a PC.
Besides i love the price scheme
$39.95 USD for Americans
$39.95 CAD for Canadians.
Yeah me.

I have a question to ask you guys. I'm planning to get a DS and of course, mario kart DS. Now, the thing is, do I need the adapter if I want:
A. To play at my house? I have a wireless router.
B. Play at a hotspot?
Thanks :D

No you only need it if you want to play on a system without a wirelesss connection. If you have a wireless router then you're fine. Same goes for hotspots.

I fail to see why you would pay $40.00 for the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB adapter and have to wait several days for it to arrive, when you could just go to Wal-Mart and get a Linksys WRT54G wireless router for $50.00. The Linksys router has four wired ethernet ports, works with 802.11b/g, and has 64/128-bit WEP and WPA encryption.
I picked it up the other day and it works great. I've heard things about version 5 of this router sucking ass, however. So stay clear of those.

A. I don't like wireless, i've had problems with drop outs
B. The USB key lets me use it anywhere i have a pc, wireless isn't the most common thing around here.
C. It's a cool accessory to add to my collection.
That's why i paid the $40.

Plus you don't have to worry about wireless security settings...or even any settings at all (for those of you not that great with computers)
I got my Nintendo Wifi Adapter a couple of days ago, and it works great. Definitely easy to use.
