i've never used it before, but yesterday i was bored and browsed through the snes titles. they're pretty cheap, and i was wondering if there was a downside to buying there rather than using ebay?

From what ive dealt with, everything is shipped media mail, there are almost never pictures and sellers tend to be slow to respond to questions of any kind.

I bought Final Fantasy 3 which was listed as "like new" to receive it with permanent marker on the front.

Slow to respond is an understatement.
In my experience, people sell on Half.com for two reasons:
1) They want more money than Ebay market value.
2) The condition of the item is questionable.

I've actually been very pleased with my half.com purchases... you can sometimes get some really good deals on there. You do have to be careful about condition, though... some things listed "Like new" are cart only. Ask questions before you buy!
I got a minty-mint Genesis Time Killer's on there for $10 and several seasons of Star Trek: DS9 for cheap (and not those crappy Asian versions, either.)
I like half.com! :D

I've bought DVDs and books from half.com, and I have no complaints. If it's something you're really concerned about condition, it's probably best to stick to ebay, though.
There are a few deals to be had on there, though.

I thought it was announced a long time ago that half.com was going to be folded into eBay.

Nope, looks like Half.com is still in the hands of the e(vil)Bay.
Ask questions before you buy!
I have tried. They either never respond or respond with "oh do I still have that posted on there? I don't have it anymore".

I've bought CDs and DVDs on half with no problems. The only times I've had issues with the condition of an item, I emailed the seller and was refunded.
Of course, anytime you are dealing with individual sellers, YMMV.
Now, I think some of you are missing the point of half.com. While it's owned by eBay, it's not eBay. It's more competetion for Amazon Marketplace. They use a similar interface, which is why they have standard item descriptions and pictures. It's all about fast and easy for both seller and buyer, not necessarly for the nitpicky collectors among us. :)
Personally, I'm all about it. I've gotten a ton of OOP CDs there for cheap.

i've also snagged a lot of OOP cds from half.com, really no better source to get stuff like that.
i've only purchased one game from half.com, that being a copy of Advance Wars 1 for GBA, boxed, complete and in the seller's words "like new." paid $28 shipped, if i remember, which is a fair price considering it's complete. even though the listing said "like new" though, i did email the seller before i purchased to make certain the item was complete and in good shape. he said it was, and it turned out it was. i was happy with the purchase.
