Just wondering. What do you guys think? What are some top games for the system? And also, just how rare is to find Street Fighter Zero 3 sealed for the Saturn? I heard it's the best version out of PSX and DC, is that true? Cheers.

PSX = watered down arcade port
DC = port of PSX port
Saturn = arcade port

As a general rule Saturn games are superior to PS games in the gfx an sound dept. The only advantage the Saturn could have over the DC though is the controls may feel more natural to you in fighting games.
Now for top US games in no particular order.
Nights into Dreams
Bug Too!
Panzer Dragoon 1,2, and Saga
Dark Savior
Albert Odysse
Magic Knight Rayearth
Virtua Cop 1 and 2
I know there's more good US games. There's also quite a few good import games but I'll let someone else fill in those gaps that escape my mind at the moment (mainly due to tiredness.)

Question, is Guardian Heroes JPN, import friendly? Because no way I'll be paying $120+ for used U.S version. New, maybe, but not used.

Does the Saturn version of STREET FIGHTER ZERO / ALPHA 3 feature a World Tour Mode, or is it just a straight port of the coin-op, more or less? Does it include the fighters that were added to the PS1 / DC ports of SFA3?

Where do you see it for $120?
It would be passible as an import as the story doesnt mean *THAT* much...where you go in the game depends on what you say at certain points but i'd imagine its still playable.
And a Saturn is worth it just for picking up some sweet imports (in my case OUTRUN)

If you're unsure what the best titles are, why're you already thinking about getting sealed games?
Anyhow, yes, the Saturn is worth getting. It's always worth getting. Lots of great titles for it, such as Legend of Oasis and Burning Rangers (but wasn't that import-only?)
Anyway, I wouldn't really say that comparing the systems is a wise thing to do...the Saturn simply catered to a different (and mostly smaller) market; FMV doesn't seem to do as well on the Saturn as it did on the PSX, but other features are nice...though the scarcity of the 3D stick hurt the system (i.e. no Silent Bomber on this system).
Just as an aside, the Saturn port of the original Resident Evil introduced the minigame to the series.

I think you should get a Saturn as soon as possible.

Don't know. All I can tell you is it'd probably cost alot of money for a sealed copy nowadays.
Burning Rangers (but wasn't that import-only?)
No. There's a US version.

Get a Saturn with NiGHTS, the Panzer Dragoons, and Rayman.
That's all the system has going for it, really. Unless you go into the Japan library...which is time consuming and really not worth the effort. If there's anything that's available on the PS1 and Saturn, the Saturn version will be better.

Oh yeah man, we're talking $85 to $125 at least. If it's sealed, lord knows how big of a nose dive that will be.
Yes it is better then the PSX and DC port
Because, Saturn port is a direct Arcade port. You can tell because some of the characters have more frames of animation and winning poses (Like Cody for example)
PSX was rebuilt from the ground up to be formatted for the system and the DC port was just a port of the PSX game with a few new features (Like all the characters unlocked and such)

What the Fuh???
Typically, it's just the opposite. The Saturn has the better version with only a handfull of multi-platform games of that era.

Remember 2D+ Saturn= Match made in heaven, that is the knowledge of the day my friends...
Saturn just had a major upper advantage thanks to those little RAM carts and that sweet little 2D processor hugging the SEGA Saturn board. :lovin: That's the kind of Sega luvin' that you need in your life!

Your drawing a very broad conclusion there Xizer. One that's not correct.
Resident Evil is better on the PSX
Dead or Alive is better on the PSX (and it pains me to admit it)
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is better on the Saturn.
There's in no really clear rule of thumb about which system had the better version.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is better on the Saturn.
I've heard that the opposite scenario is true:
SOTN supposedly plays better on the PS1; the Saturn port is inferior on account of more noticable slowdown and poor sprite transparency.
On the other hand, the Saturn port of SOTN is supposedly better with respect to features. The Saturn port just has more to offer gamers, not to mention the fact that the Succubus is presented in all her uncensored glory (She's naked, basically).

seriously you can get by buying cheap but good titles but sooner or later you will want to try high quality titles - mainly JPN imports - and that will cost you arm and leg unless you live in Japan...
think of it as the friendly warning... :D

Yeah, the Saturn is totally worth having. That's why mine is sitting out in the living room at this very moment. Daytona USA, despite looking kinda ugly, is pure bliss with the official Sega wheel. Sega Rally is a similar experience, but with vastly improved visuals. Then you've got the '80s racers, like Outrun and Power Drift.
Saturn SotN is worth having if you're a fan of the series, since it's got some extra stuff that's not in the PSX version. But there's one thing about it that REALLY annoys me. You have to pause the game, and then hit the L button to view the map, instead of just hitting Select or something like the PSX version. Now, that wouldn't be so bad, but there's a couple seconds of loading delay before the pause menu comes up. It'll drive a map whore positively crazy in minutes if you can't quickly adapt to it.

Well from my experience, if you don't mind the extra load times when going to each section of the castle. It's really quite golden.
Yet, the PSX verison does flow smoothly.
Give or take, both verisons are awesome to have around.

Saturn is one of my favourite consoles of all time. I ought to smack you for not owning one five years ago and then asking this question. In fact, I think I will smack you. *SMACK!*

Saturn is a great system to get play all the import fighters dragon force etc. fantasia has a modded one in buy and sell for 60.00 that would be the way to go. I have 4 saturn systems to last me as long as I need.

Of COURSE you should get one! Many of the games are dirt cheap, the system is tough and reliable, and there are some fabulous games for it that never appeared on any other system.

Nobody has mentioned SHRUMPS yet for the saturn, some of the following:
Battle Garrega
Soukygurentai
Radiant Silvergun
DonPachi & DoDonPachi
I could go on and on....
How about near perfect neogeo ports of games like:
Samurai Showdown 3&4
King of Fighters 95-97
Fatal Fury Series
I love games like Cotton 2 & Cotton Boomerang as well. Of course there was SOTN, SF Games, Vs. games (Which are all excellent) Saturn has so many sweet arcade ports, it was THE system in the prime years of 2D goodness. People don't realize that enough, 2D peaked probably from 1996-1999 and the saturn was right there.

Hell, IMO the Saturn was worth getting at launch, and has been, increasingly, every day since.
Get one already.
When I first got mine I played Virtua Cop 2 until it felt like my eyeballs were going to fall out of my head. I love that system.

I don't think so actually. As far as I can tell, there has never been a better time to buy Japanese import Saturn games - on the whole they are cheaper than they have ever been. Same with Megadrive. You can get a copy of Skull Fang for less than £20 easily now - a year or so ago you would have been looking at £40 minimum.
Sengoku Blaede you can have for £20 - £30 now, instead of £60 - £70. The only reason not to go on a Saturn import frenzy right now is that next week they might drop even further!

well one must remember the shipping charges...
those cheap Saturn games on eBay are generally from the sellers in JP/HK so you need to factor in the shipping charges...
And there are in high demand titles and some may in three digits range...
I don't know about you but on my book anything over 1000 yen ($9-10) is expensive shipping included... :p

Dude, the saturn ROCKZ! I LOVE it! Most of the greatest games, non-import, so far have been listed, but I MUSt add the Virtua Cops games, love them forever, and why has NOBODY even MENTIONED SonicR!!!? SonicR Is GREATNESS, Love It! Before having it on Saturn a while ago, I played it on PC non-stop, unlocked all the secret maps and characters, and I was only like maybe 8 or 9 at the time. After getting it on Saturn, I did it again. I would do it again now, but I always have troble installing on our new computer, and rather not deal with it, and I lost my saturn game a whiles ago :( .
Oh well, I got the memories. GO GET A SATURN MAN! They are Great! Get every 2D game it has!

Oh yeah, it's definitely worth getting, especially for imports!
Most sealed JP imports are very affordable now, and usually way below what they cost originally. Some games cost alot more than they did originally now, but those are usually so rare that you'll be very lucky to find a sealed copy anyway.
My advice is to do what I did, get all the cheap imports that you can get first, and then try to start tracking down all the expensive ones. That way you'll have lots of games to play while you're saving up money and waiting for a rare game to show up. It's alot less stressful to do it that way.
I'm getting close to 100 imports for my saturn now, and I've only been collecting them for about a year, so it's not too expensive to get into importing if you bargain hunt. I have a very limited income, and I only buy sealed games, so if I can do it within my budget then anyone should be able to do it. You can get alot more games if you buy used though. I'd probably be getting close to 500 imports by now if I did that. But either way, the secret is to compare prices. Some sellers are ridiculously expensive, and some sellers are ridiculously cheap, so it pays to shop around.
Oh yeah, one more thing to remember, buy multiple items from the same seller whenever possible to save money on shipping. I usually go with airmail for cheap games and EMS for expensive games, but it also depends on the size of my order. You tend to save more in the long run with large orders, but it depends on what the seller charges for shipping. I've bought from a few sellers who barely charge more for EMS than they charge for airmail, so in those cases it may be worth it to save several days of shipping time for a few extra bucks. EMS usually arrives in a few days, but airmail usually takes a few weeks to show up.

I'm not so sure about the first part, but you're definitely right about the 3D.
Wasn't the saturn originl planned to be a 2D behemoth that also did a little 3d where as the PSX was all about the 3rd dimention?

Collecting import Saturn games IS much cheaper than it used to be... I can REALLY vouch for that!
There will always be a few that command top dollar, but by and large Saturn imports have dropped in price, especially in the past year.
DAMMIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (sorry, I bought a bunch of Saturn games when they were expensive.)
