I'm thinking about picking up a Import Saturn. Along with the 1mb/4mb Plus RAM cart. Will this cart be good enough to run U.S games on the Import Saturn, or will there be problems?

Also, do the RAM carts save the game progress? What if your battery is dead in your system, will the RAM carts take care of that problem?

How many mb does games like Dracula X or Guardian Heroes take?

The same MB carts can be used with the games that require it right?

So confusing, I'm beginning to know why Saturn didn't get all that popular...

Ok, I read. Some say there are problems, no problems. Oh my god. I'm just going with the official ones. If I want to play U.S games, I guess I'll just get a U.S Saturn as well as a Import Saturn. I'll feel better that way.

You can get combo carts that will do it all... save games, let you play import games, and let you play games that utilize extra RAM (1 or 4 megs... some games that utilize the 1 MEG cart don't actually require it, like Cyberbots. The USA version of Marvel Super Heroes actually has a hidden 1 MEG option... sweet!) That's the best cart. It's easy to find on Ebay. I have one... there's a switch to toggle 1 or 4 MEG games.

It's super-easy to replace the battery in the Saturn... it's also a common battery and very easy to find.

Playing and saving any import game on the Saturn is easy, man. Give it a shot!

:D

ps. SOME convertor carts do have problems with the Vampire Savor game... it was one of the last Saturn games and it also required 4 MEGS ram expansion. Some of the all-in-one carts have compatibility issues with it. I believe that Street Fighter Zero (Alpha) 3 and Final Fight Revenge (blech) run fine with all convertors, though, and they were released after Vampire Savior.

That way my friend you can't go wrong.
I did alot of research on saturn mods I was blessed to get one with a swicth I pretty much leave it set to japan and use it for the imports. although the thought of owning a japanese system is quite appealing.

I would pay someone to mod my other ones if I could find someone. anyway good luck.

There should be a saturn FAQ that will answer all your questions on which games use the extra meg carts. I'm pretty sure Xmen vs Street Fighter & Vampire Saviour are both ones that do.

Personally here's how I did my saturn:

I got a US system, bought a mod chip and got the 4in1 action replay cart. The cart gives you both the 4 & 1 meg cart requirement for the games that need it, lets you save, and/or cheat. For the japanese games, the battery will suffice just fine for saving. It's extremely easy to replace. Just pop the back panel and switch out a new one. The best chip to use I bought at:

www.jandaman.com

Really easy to install. All you gotta do is open the system up with a phillips head and clip in the chip, and solder only two easy wires. Then enjoy some saturn goodness ;D.

Also remember that the only way to play The King of Fighters '95 on a US system is with a mod switch. The KoF95 cartridge that comes with the game isn't a memory expansion in the traditional sense. It contains all the character sprites and the game pulls them down when required, the only Saturn game that works like this.

If you have moderate level soldering skills you can probably install a switch in a Saturn yourself...

...but don't put one of those terrible "piracy ahoy!" modchips in her!

If you have a JP saturn, and use a 4-in-1 combo cart on it, all US games will work on said saturn without fail.

In fact, this is the easiest way to get across the board compatibility with import saturn games.

I've done it personally, and will probably do it again as well :)

^ Good, I was hoping to hear that. Then again... Someone at NCSX said the RAM cart didn't start U.S games on his JPN Saturn console...

Ahh so thats why 95 doesn't work right, odd since 96 is just fine. Ugh I had to use the dreaded ram cart swap. I totally don't recommend this though.

the best would be do country and 50/60 Hz mods on your Saturn... like mine below...

it's JPN Saturn with full US/JP/PAL switch as well as 50/60 Hz switch... plus 240 VAC PSU for direct plug into our power grid...

i could help out with modding a us saturn with those switches if you want, feel free to pm me, as theres not such a great chance ill find this topic again. the mod isnt very hard, it just confuses people and scares them off by using logic gates (for some methods). you wont have to know how they work, ill just tell you what to connect where. all youll have to do is learn to solder ok, you dont have to be perfect, so long as you can avoid shorts and excessive wire stripping.
