So my mom decides that it's time for us to throw out a bunch of stuff that some relative left at our house about... oh, fifteen years ago? O_o;; It was basically nothing but electronics and stuff. Most of the things we found were tape drives.
I went "WTF?"
I looked at them and saw that they all had a sticker that said that they were ADAM tape drives. I knew I'd heard the name before, so I looked around and found out that they appear to be replacement TAPE DRIVES for Coleco ADAM systems!
I have no clue what they're worth. I'm thinking of selling them off here at DP, or eBaying them. I don't have a clue what they're worth. They're practically mint, though. They're dusty, but look fine otherwise.
So... any help here? Anybody interested? Think these would sell on eBay?

I found a complete coleco adam system with a boxed adamlink modem, a ton of software, and a few sealed replacement ink carts. I searched around the forums and the rarity guide for any info on it, and nothing would come up in the guide. From what I read on old forum topics, most people have to practically give away adam stuff. Apparently a boxed system will go for about 50 on ebay, but the thing is unBELIEVABLY heavy. Carrying this thing back to the car at the swap was torture.

No and no.
Even a die-hard ADAM collector would only take them if they were free. And they had a ton of storage space.

Well that sucks. But figures, considering the particular relative I was talking about. :p
Ah well, off to the scrap yard to be taken down for parts.

Not sure I understand. What makes NIB ADAM Tape Drives so worthless? I know the ADAM did'nt do well and all, but if this was any OTHER game related item from that time period that was NIB, everyone would be all over them. :)

Didn't those tape drives use EEPROMs that could potentially suffer from bit rot?

They're NOT NIB. They were just stashed inside a big box inside my closet.
They're practically new (I don't believe they were ever used), but some of them have some small warping in the front, and most are really dirty.

I bet you could get decent money for a tested and working Coleco ADAM cassette drive. I've had about 6 or so of them and not one has ever functioned correctly.

Not sure I understand. What makes NIB ADAM Tape Drives so worthless?
a) they're not games
b) it's crappy ADAM hardware
c) even in our own circle of die hard game geeks, who cares? LOL

Not really. There's lots of NIB stuff from that era that can't be given away, even for super-popular systems.

Like what? I'm not being a smartass, I'd just like to know in case I run across it and think about hauling it home :)

Heres an example my 7 sealed skyhawks for the 2600. No one want them. Ugh hate those things.
Edit Seahawks damn it now I hate them even more.

The Mattel Aquarius for starters. I know that's not exactly popular, but I had one that looked like you'd just taken it home from TRU in 1983 and I had to practically give the damn thing away.

Ah... the infamous ADAM. The system that single-handedly destroyed a company.
Oh, Coleco.... Didn't your parents ever tell you not to put your eggs in one basket?
If you ask me, ADAM was also partially responsible for the great crash of '84. Beacuse I remember everyone and their mother wanting an ADAM when Coleco announced it. Then they were released..... Pissed a WHOLE LOT of people off. Almost every single ADAM in the original shipment was defective.
They may be worthless to you and many of the people here, but I wouldn't necessarily throw it out - There'll always be someone out there who want's it.
EDIT: BTW - No one has asked... Is it the ColecoVision ADAM expansion, or is it a stand-alone model? You'll have a better chance of selling it if it's the CV expansion.

Don't forget the story about how seeing an ADAM running Donkey Kong freaked out the head honcho at Atari (who thought Atari had exclusive rights to computer versions of Donkey Kong) sufficiently that Atari chose not to market the NES in North America.

does anyone know of a list of all the software released for the ADAM?
mainly interested in games, but would be curious to know everything that is out there.
