Cool find today took in a boxed nes in great shape but i noticed it said mattel on it and the power adaptor is different with a weird prong the is tilted at an angle each side where it plugs in wall.
I realize its a pal system but can anyone tell me the rarity "more so than a regular nes?" and will it work if i used av cables and an american power plug?
any info would be appreciated.
I have a suspicion its an australian nes but dunno.

Yep I believe you've got an Australian NES. There was no packin game? Or was it just missing?
Mattel also released a 3-in-1 game with:
Super Mario Bros
Tetris
Nintendo World Cup
I always thought it was included with the system.
Its pretty damn rare in the US, but I don't think its too rare in Australia.
I don't know anything about power requirements though.

Well with the power supply he described I doubt its a Canadain version. But that is interesting to know that Mattel sold systems in Canada as well. Were there any Canadain Only releases in NTSC format?

Almost (?) any game and accessories made by Nintendo (and distribute in Canada by Mattel) have bilingual box and manual for the Quebec market. Try just to found a Stack Up or ROB with the bilingual box, it's a real tough challenge, even for me !
The only exception came from "Kirby's Adventure" who has been release in french only for the Quebec market (the game is in total french). I still see some of these factory seal at my flea market near Montreal.
I even have a "6 pack" box from the factory who said on the box
NES P K5
Kirby's Adventures (french version)
Nintendo Entertainment System
6pcs
Nintendo of Canada Ltd.
Made in Japan

This would explain my boxed final fantasy with both the "Official seal of quality" and under it the "Sceau de qualite" And a big mattel logo on the box.
are these valued any more than the american releases?

It don't make any difference, but for a "completist" (sp) like me it's interesting, since i try to get all bilingual stuff Mattel have release.. If i've got a english only boxed FF, i would be interesting to make a trade for your bilingual. But i don't have any....... :(

no pics but ill give you some of the over the top bullshit they lay on people from the back of the mattel Nintendo control deck box.
"The Nintendo Control deck is a sleek, highly advanced control system. Inside the deck are two microchips developed and used exclusively by Nintendo. They're why you receive an astounding 52 colours graphic resolution. It's an enhancement that results in brilliant tone refinements, realistic 3-D images, convincing depth of field and actual shadows!"

I second that..
many NES systems went through my hands, and they all said Mattel (I live in Toronto, Canada).
Most of my manuals are from the US so they have english only. But I do have a complete Final Fantesy 1 with 2 manuals! A complete US manuals, and a complete Canadian version manual! The canadian manuals is twice as thick because of the french.
cheers,
