A petition for a light background option (sign here)

I know the majority are loving the new appearance of the boards, but I gotta be honest, for me it's really tough on the eyes. I've just always had problems with white text on dark background, it makes my eyes hurt (I never was able to play Virtual Boy for more than a minute or so). It's possible that retrogmr might be reluctantly talked into maintaining a template of dark text on a light background as an option for those who want it. Just for the forums, that is, not for the entire site. Now don't get me wrong, Digital Press could have pictures of dead dogs in the background and I'd still say it was the best site on the Internet. And if I'm the only one who wants a light background option, then I'll gladly stuff a Duck Hunt cartridge in my mouth and get back to normal business. But if there's enough who want the option that we can talk retrogmr into setting it up (if its even possible), then that would be great. Sign here if you'd like it!

Consider me signed. Granted, I think the current design looks /good/, but functionally, it just isn't for me.

I too dont like it either. you cant really see the black/grey lines around boxes and such. its really a neusence. Its a good idea for the colors, but it doesn't work out right.

NOTE: Please be aware that the petition is simply to apply for an OPTIONAL choice for a different background scheme, NOT to rip on the new board format. It's been getting good reviews so far, and I think it looks pretty good, it's just not for me, that's all. So no attacking it!

I'm experiencing eyestrain as well. I'm all for change, etc. but I'm not talking about aesthetics, this is kind of painful.

Anyway, put me down for a vote as well. I LOVE this theme but don't like unhappy 'regulars'. If we could just have a simple alternative for these folks I'd be happy.

I raised the option of keeping the other background when "testing" out this look. I still stand by it. It does hurt my eyes after a while...

Okay okay okay... so after doing a little investigative work it's not a big deal to leave the old theme as an option.

However, any new cool features are going to appear on the new theme first, and this old theme as time permits. It's double work to keep them both in sync... and not that I don't love you guys, but I'm trying to have a life :P

If you want to change back to the old theme, select "Chronicles" from the Profile screen and save. That should be it.

Yes lighter background please. Doesn't even have to be the entire background. Even the white text on red on the homepage http://www.digitpress.com/index2.htm is easier to read. Still fits in with the theme too.
