Just wondering - I found a new, never opened (for real) SMS in the box. It's the core system, and it's absolutely mint and untouched.
How rare is this find?

Wow, short and to the point. My question is how do you no it was never opened? Sustems were not shrink wrapped back in the day (nor are they now)?

This is true, I just bought a NES and was surprised to see the pads, power supply and console still in the original plastic bags. They clearly weren't "new" though, just well-kept.
As for the SMS, I suppose it would be rare to find any 20+ year old console still untouched, but it's not very valuable, unless you count untapped fun potential! :)

Well, I own many NIB systems that I collect. You can tell when they are new. Just looking at the bags, how the wires are wrapped, etc. Both controllers are perfect. You can just tell...

Imageshack seems to be giving me problems now - I'll open it and post some later :)

Which pack is it?
Just the basic set, or with the Light Phaser or 3D Glasses? Which built-in games does it have?
Either way, I'd say it's worth more than the $40/$50 quoted earlier. In the unlikely event that it's a first-run 1986 system, probably a fair bit more.

It's the core system (I think), - I'll have to look and see.

It's the base system, with Hang On/ Astro Warrior

Nice! That looks pretty damn immaculate :)
It's one of the more common variations, but finding any of them NIB these days is no easy task. I'd imagine you could expect at least $60-$70 on eBay, maybe a bit more if it's listed well.

That's a pretty set-up you found there. Definitely looks new to me.

Nice, I am green with envy!
I'm having a hard time finding any SMS systems period.

$40-50
It would catch way more than this on ebay last time I checked.

I see.
I saw someone sold a brand new/mint SMS system boxed in a bidding war for about $50 with $10 shipping.

I love my SMS.. keep it. but being near Xmas $50+ isn't far fetched.

$50 for a new SMS?
Come on people, let's not kid ourselves, its gonna go for a solid amount more.

It could do anything on eBay.

I agree with Anagrama. If you're thinking about selling it, it might be good to prepare yourself for a low figure, but I could easily see that doing $70+ if somebody's interested enough. The SMS-loving community is relatively small, but we're out there.

It's the Canadian SMS -- the plastic sheets are in French and English.
To make sure, look at the packaging. If it's bilingual (French and English) and the distributor is Irwin, it's Canadian. In the US, it was distributed by Tonka.
I don't know if it would raise the value of the console among American collectors, but for box variations alone I guess it could be of interest for them.

It's an American SMS for sure. The plastic bags have warnings in several languages, including German as well. I already have a Canadian SMS in the box too :)

Ah - I'm surprised that the bags are multilingual. It was still an important point to check anyway, since the SMS had different distribution in Canada vs. the US. :)

I always liked the SMS and its graphics still impress me for an 8-bit system. I'll keep the ones I have just for my collection. I have about 35 SMS games, so I'll have to add more...

$50-70 on Ebay MAX.
Come on people. Just do a search for completed items on Ebay. It's not that hard.
Most CIB systems in excellent condition have sold for $35-60
This one is nicer than most but still NONE have brought more than $60-70.
