With all the hubbub over the new Dragon Quest 8 for PS2, I decided a couple of months ago to play Dragon Quest 6. Though I didn't even come close to passing the game, I have written a review.

A fine game, if I do say so myself.

Man, good pick there. I found a minty boxed copy in a game store a few years back and struggled through it with a translation I downloaded off the internet and printed up at work (oh, how i miss that office :( ). Never did beat it :(

I've been holding out on going back to the game until someone actually does a 100% complete translation of it...which looks like will never happen :(

Damn, really? How much of it was ever completed? I wish somebody would pick up the incomplete translated patchs for games like this and Tengai Makyou Zero.

90%, according to the hacker. See my review.

I keep hoping that since Square and Enix are one that they'll release retro collections like they do with Final Fantasy. I've always wanted to play the DQ games, but I don't own any and I can never seem to finish anything on an emulator.

Square also need to port Treasure Hunter G to the GBA or DS

I know I'm in the minority, but I'm really disappointed with DQ6.

I really liked DQ3 and 4. Those are the best ones, in my opinion. DQ5 I thought took the series as far as it could, and was also a good game, as it added lots of different choices, tons of characters and monsters to mess around with and such, but it was still the same old DQ graphics and the same old DQ battle engine. Then DQ6 came around, and by that point, it was really long past time to either overhaul or kill the franchise. You had a 16-bit game with 8-bit graphics, ugly menus, ugly, old, and stale battle system, and the only thing new was the job system, which although Square anti-fanboys might hate me for saying so, was done a hundred times better in FF5 and FFTactics. No, DQ6 did absolutely nothing for me.

3, 4, and 5 were good games, and I'm going to be getting 8, but I did not like 6.

Everyone's welcome to disagree though. I know most do on the subject of DQ6.

I don't know, I don't think that the gameplay was radically changed in DQ6 from the previous iterations. I thought the graphics were at FF6 level. I think that the biggest turnoff is its huge length.
