ok lately i have been pondering...i have a bunch of NES games that have stickers or writing or some other deformity on one side of the case (90% of the time on the back) that cant be fixed/removed...or the lable on the back is torn or missing.
now is it a bad thing to get another, less rare of course (mabe a 2 atmost) game and swap the casing?

I've done it a couple times with games that had those magnetic stickers on them (the big square ones) that even if you get it completely off you can still tell something was there. So when you could get Super Mario Bros / Duck Hunt carts for a quarter at GameCrazy I would always buy whatever they had when I was there. I've swapped the back portion on a few carts that were really bad with a clean SMB / DK cartridge back.
HOWEVER I make a note of when I do this so I know what games are no longer all original (doesn't make a big deal or anything but if I ever go to sell them I want the buyer to know). I've never done it with the front of a game. The back of an NES cart is the back of an NES cart, but repro stickers for the front? Bah, waste of time.
Most of the time I replace a cartridge back if it's sticky and going to be too big a pain to remove - don't want it to ruin the label of the game it's on the shelf next to or put sticky residue in the NES.
It's weird. When it comes to disc based games and the condition of the discs, manuals and outer cases, I'm very picky. When it comes to older carts and things like non-removable stickies and such, I leave them alone and don't worry about it if a good attempt to clean them fails. I just chalk it up to "oh well".
