View Full Version : Game stores in my area are fecking useless!

Right, i've totally had enough of my local game stores (GAME in particular, but GameStation are just as bad), and I feel the need to rant about it.

They are useless. Totally, and utterly useless. Today I was after a Mario Smash Footie Pearl White GameCube bundle (Which is emblazoned on the front page of the Nintendo site), yet I can't get one in my area because no shops are stocking them. Furthermore, they refuse to look on their database to find out what shops ARE actually stocking them.

(This is what I am on about: [9url=http://shop.game.net/ViewProduct.aspx?cat=10112&mid=327740]Mario Smash Footie Pearl White GameCube bundle[/url])

Looks like my little corner of the UK has got skanked yet again, and I am left without what I want...

It happened with the LE Kingdom Hearts GBA SP. It happened with Donkey Konga II (They still haven't had this in stock). It happened with Unreal championship II Collector's Edition. It happened with Metal Gear Solid III Metal Edition... The list is endless. Half the time they are oblivious to the existence of half of these items

I bet if I were to go to London, Birmingham, or Manchester, I would have no trouble. Why does all teh good stuff always get sent to the big cities and we on the periphery have to suffer? It is as if the country ends with London, and it's all countryside beyond that... WRONG. An hour and a half to the east of London is a reasonable sized town that goes by the name of IPSWICH, and we always get left outl, and I am getting just a little pissed off with it.

It doesn't help that the stores in mention have less and less GameCube stuff coming in every week, but you'd think that they would have ben the best people to contact to order me what I wanted. I am sure some store somewhere in the UK is stocking it. My only alternative is to resort to buying one online, which I hate doing at the best of times.

This is the last straw. I am fed up of being told that they are not stocking a particular item. Half the time they even let me pre-order them (As with Metal Gear Solid III Metal Edition) and then inform me that it's not available... PAH!

:x

I suggest destroying them.

"Mario Smash Footie Pearl White GameCube" made me laugh. LOL

What do you have against ordering online? After moving to Canada from the US, that is one of my biggest beefs with this country. There are very few good places (none?) to order games online. Luckily, I buy very little current generation stuff, but when I do, I am essentially forced to go to a retail outlet. I miss the days of pre-ordering from EB, then being able to just sit at home and get the game the day after release via Fedex.

I admit there's not much for online retailer's here, but damn it futureshop and Bestbuy.ca aren't that bad.

Why do you post this topic on multiple forums? :/

Just order it online. No reason not to. Isn't there an amazon.co.uk?

Good reason number one: No credit or debit card. I choose not to have either.

Good reason number two: I like to inspect hardware before I accept it, after having had a number of dodgy handhelds with dead pixels, and after a console I bought from GamePlay about 10 years ago which arrived with the box all tatty and dented from being handled badly in transit and being packed poorly

And as you know, I like my things sealed, so I like to inspect that they have not been tampered with before purchasing.

And I posted it on a few forums because at the time I was in an angry mood. Besides, different audiences create different outcomes for the topics, and I like to compare each audience's reactions to certain topics of conversation.

:eek 2:

Who DOES'NT have a debit or credit card these days?

Wow. @_@

And some stuff you just can't find localy, which means going ahead and buying them from online......get used to it or move. :D

It's not that long ago that most people didn't have either. Strange how quickly it comes to seem incomprehensible that someone might choose not to own either.

Actually, it's a position I respect. Perhaps there would be a few less problems for a lot of people to worry about if they didn't have the opportunity to spend money that they don't have.

How do you spend money that you don't own with a debit card? Unless you're overdrafting your account.

As long as you keep track of your expenses with your debit or credit card there really shouldn't be that much of a problem.

I've actually found that i'm *LESS* tempted to splurge on buying stuff now that i have a debit card. Having cash on hand made me want to spend it.

Let's not forget stores doing total ripoff tradeins and claimning it's worthwhile. I'm just glad I never got suckered in.

I practically only shop online now.

I realised game stores are crap years ago. I don't really buy PAL games, but if I see a bargain I'll go for it; not that I ever get the chance. Can I find Strider 1 & 2, G-Darius or either of the Castlevanias for PSone in any of my local game stores? Can I, my arse. I have to resort to Ebay. I can understand having to get games for the rest of my systems from Ebay, but when you have to mess around to get a damn Playstation game it's a bit silly.

I'd love to find a store I could walk into and buy an NTSC-J Saturn game for a reasonable price. The day I find a game store with a good varied selection of old and new import games and consoles at a reasonable price will be a great day. Until then we're at the mercy of Ebay and the great British postal service :/

Well you know Gemini, it sounds like you're SOL. Put up or shut up time. Either make the drive to a major city centre, or just accept your position.

make the drive to a major city centre

I was going to say the same thing, just in a nicer tone. ;P

Hour and a half drive to London? I don't know the traffic situation in England (or gas prices), but I've done a lot longer drives for less. Since online may not be your thing, you may want to make an occasional road trip instead.

I've got two gamestops and two EBgames stores within short walking distance, but I still do the majority of my buying online, mostly due to never being able to find anything I'm looking for.

Unless it's a big release or something I have preordered and I know they'll have it there for me, I'll order it online.
