Is it Midway? Williams? Atari? Taito?
Why? I'll answer after a few responses.

TIE: Midway and Williams.
Midway had the Pac-Man, Tron, and Galaxian series. Williams can be sumed up in 1 word - Robotron.

I have a few but my favorite was probably Williams. I was hooked on so many of their games such as Defender, Stargate, Robotron, Sinistar, Joust.
Another favorite was Universal. They didn't have the big name hits that some of the other companies did but their games had a certain charm to them. Mr. Do and Ladybug are still two of my all time favorite arcade games.
and Lastly Atari. They made so many games that I remember playing in my earlier gaming days (Asteroids, Missile Command, Star Wars, Millipede, Crystal Castles, Black Widow, Cloak & Dagger, etc...) which is probably why they'll always be one of my favorites.

Mine is definitely Taito. It's the company I grew up with in my region of the world :)

I guess I'll go with Atari. I played Missile Command to death in the day. I also loved Lunar Lander, Asteroids, Tempest, Centipede and Battlezone among others. It's pretty close, though.

Midway distributed the game in the US, but Namco designed it. Namco game. :D
For me it was all about Atari, & some Namco games under tha Atari name.
Xevious, Dig Dug, Star Wars: TAG, RoadBlasters, Crystal Castles, Marble Madness, Vindicators, Food Fight, Paperboy, Toobin, STUN Runner...the list goes on.
Only one Sega game I ever liked enough to play: CrackDown.
For Nintendo I loved Popeye & the original Mario Bros. Donkey Kong/DK Jr were too difficult for me. :embarrassed:

Ok, Classic can be a rather broad range here, so:
Taito
Data East
Konami
Capcom
Sega
Midway
Atari
Namco
Nintendo
Irem
Taito
There! Whew, I might have missed one or two, but this is the bulk of the companies who released games circa 1981-1990 that I loved playing as a child!

I know, but Midway put them out in the US. So I guess I'll have a 3 way tie - Namco, Midway, and Williams! Aw hell... I loved all the copanies back then! It's hard to choose just 1! :D
I think Konami made some good games during the "crash" era between 83-85.
