But I'm picky :/

First off, games I played and don't like:
FFOrgin
FFChronicles
FF Anthology
FF VII
FF VIII
FF IX
Tales of Destiny

Games I do like:
FF Tactics
The Legend of Dragoon
Brave Fencer Musashi (kinda)

Ok things in rpgs I dont like:
frequent random battles
boring traditional turn-based combat
huge dungeons full of frequent random battles

Things I like in rpgs/would like to see:
random battles that are easy to escape or not frequent
when you can see enemies on the map and you can avoid them
fun fastpace battles (I found The Legend of Dragoon's system fun and different)
good story of course

And of obviously I like action and stratagey rpgs but would also like recomendations for kinda traditional with different fun system that follow my criteria.

Thanks in advance! (oh, and PSOne only, I dont have a PS2 :( )

Perhaps Grandia? Enemies are on screen and it has a rather good battle system (IMO).

Legend of Mana? I hated the story, but the gameplay is action and is prolly one of the most beautiful PS1 games ever.

Weclome to the forum.

The Lunar series may be good for you. You are able to avoid random battles becuase you can see the monsters on screen. I have only played Silver Star Story and the battles are somewhat repetitive but there are some fun special attackes and such.

Hope you find what you are looking for!

Well if you liked FFT then you must enjoy tactical RPG's to an extent. I'd look into getting Front Mission 3, Vandal Hearts, Vandal Hearts II, Tactics Ogre, Brigande(sp?), etc.

as terrible as the localizations were, both Star Ocean Second Story and Valkyrie Profile were the bee's knees. Seriously, the cat's pajamas, man.

Valkyrie Profile will run you a pretty penny, unfortunatly (it's worth it!), but Star Ocean Second Story can be had for next to nothing.

Both games feature horrendous voice acting and Star Ocean also suffers from a first draft script translation, but it thankfully doesn't detract from the badassity of the gameplay. The combat systems in both games are unique and action packed.

As a bonus, both games feature some of the best RPG music evar. Motoi Sakuraba hasn't been on fire recently, but SO2 and VP are chock full of solid GOLD.

if you're into strategy games, Kartia is right up your alley. a good mix of shining force and final fantasy tactics.
a unique system, lots to do and a very low price tag (10$) you can't really go wrong.

In Chrono Cross, you can avoid most battles if you're nimble. It's one of those things where the enemies try to run into you to initiate battle, so there is no "frequent random battle" problem. Plus, the combat system is a bit different, so it might be refreshing. I like the game a lot, personally. Just don't expect it to be like Chrono Trigger, because that seems to be the one thing people find disappointing about it.

I'd also recommend Star Ocean: The Second Story. One of my favorite games of all time. There are random battles, BUT battles are so fun that it's not even a big deal really, to me anyway. It's definitely not a traditional combat system, as you actually get to run around a small area to swipe at enemies, physically run away from enemy attacks, and cast spells.

Star ocean second story is an awsome game if you can get by the horrible battle voice overs, highly reccomended.

Guardian's Crusade is quite simple, but still fun.

Way too many cool RPGs to remember, but grab the Lunars and Grandia and you won't be disappointed.

Here, here. You owe it to yourself to play the original Grandia if you're even slightly into RPGs. It's arguable the best RPG of the 32 bit era if you ask me.

Oh, and Valkyrie Profile is also worth a look if you're lucky enough to find a copy at a decent price.

Dragon Warrior VII......?

I'm just kidding.

If you liked FF: Tactics you might want to try taking a crack at Hoshigami, but I'd go read the IGN review first, so you know what you're getting into.

Brave Fencer is t3h r0x.

How's about Parasite Eve?
