I'm a bit confused over the correct way to hook-up a Mk.1 Megadrive and Mk.1 Mega CD. Apparently I need to run a male phono jack - male phono jack to go from the MD headphone socket to the mixing socket on the rear of the M-CD. I then take the audio from the L/R audio sockets on the M-CD and just the video from the MD.

However, I've also been told not to bother with this, and just take the audio from the MD headphone socket as normal?

Which is correct?

Also, what happens if I throw a 32X into the equasion?

Cheers

Time to pull out something I wrote quite a while ago

How to hook all that mess up! Hope it helps LOL

Anyway, as far as the mixing cable goes, if you use the RCA Audio plugs on the back of the Sega CD without using the mixing cable, you'll only get the audio produced by the Sega CD itself - usually only the CD Audio tracks. In order to output the rest of the sound generated by the Genesis itself, you have to run the mixing cable from the headphone jack to the back of the SegaCD. IIRC, if you go from the headphone jack only, you won't get any of the SegaCD audio. I don't have the full setup hooked up at the moment, so I can't test my memory on this one, but that's what I remember. Since the Genesis 2 eliminated the headphone jack, you don't have to worry about it on that model. Adding a 32x into the loop doesn't change anything with the audio, if i understand what you're asking.

Feel free to ask any other questions on Genesis hardware tho, I got it all 8-)

Thanks very much for that, it's certainly made things much clearer. I think I'll pass on adding a 32X into the mix. I can't really think of any 32X games worth the effort of setting it up. There are a few good games, but generally they're rare and highly expensive such as DarXide.

Anyhow, if I come accross this question on another forum during my interweb travels, I'll post a link to your page and give you full credit.

Cheers.
