I was just wondering if anyone here has the original Model PSX-1001 Playstation. If you do can you take a pic of the back, because i hear these have A/V on the back. Thanks

I think that's the model I had.
Mine had three RCA jacks (composite video and stereo audio) and a +5V DC out (for powering a camcorder style RF box).
It didn't have an s-video jack like the original japanese model, though.

Here you go...

Ignore the missing part of the plastic shield to the right of the Serial I/O port, it broke off when I was working on the laser in this perticular PS1. I've been finding a lot of these original PS1's lately. This one I actually found in a garbage pile at a local flea market, took it home, did a little cleaning and repair, and it turned out it has a modchip installed! LOL Last week I also found another first release PS1 at the same flea market but it's in PERFECT condition and looks as if it had barely ever been used.

The first few models have A/V on the back of them (as individual spots ie RCA plugs).

The backs of the 1001's look just like these (just that they arnt blue)

The japanese model 1000 had s-video built in. But who cares. You can buy an S-Video cable for any model. The 1000 and 1001 had crappy lasers and overheated because of the placement.

Funny enough, I still have my SPCH-1001 bought new in Sept of ’96 and it still runs like a champ! Let me tell you, it’s seen its fair share of beatings! I’m surprised its still running.

I have a perfect working model 1001 too. :) I plan to keep it that way, though, so it just stays in its box. I use my later models for my actual gaming.

^^^Man that thing looks pretty beat up...

Anyway, I still have my model 1001(made in August 1995), and believe it or not it still works 9 times out of 10.

I wasn't aware of a mod to switch between pal and ntsc. Where did you find how to do that?

Apparent the first 1001s have huge overheating problems, right?

It was my experience that they do. Many people put them on their side like a tower to improve fmv skipping. You can buy fans for them anyhow.

Most of the overheating comes from long hours of gameplay and little air circulation under the systems (especially when they sit on the carpet), but they were the first models and I'm sure they didnt think that some would play them as much as we have, or that some would push that system so hard with loading or constant reading from the disc.

Papastu, off topic, but is there variants of Diablo? I just sold my Diablo not too long ago and now I saw another Diablo at the store tonight and I could have sworn the inside graphics were different (what I mean is the back of the manual and inside of the back cover).

Not that I can think of off the top of my head. What did the one in the store look like? All I can do is compare it to mine and those that have it. EA isnt notorious for doing variant releases (except in some sports titles) but I've been proven wrong before.

Get a pic, or pick it up and we'll go from there.

Can you show me a pic of inside your jewel case? I thought the one I has looked like the demons hand extending over onto the CD. But the one I saw at the store didn't have the demon in the inside.

Here's a pic of mine, you can see the demon's hand on the CD.

My very first Playstation had problems with the memory cards. It wouldn’t always recognize them being in the slot. I had to return the unit and got the one I’ve had to this day. So far, I’ve never had a problem, as with many Sony units, either their great working items that will last close to forever or their complete pieces of crap that will break down over and over again.

I recently bought a PS1 and I'll think I'll use it for my PS1 gaming for the time being. I'll retire the other unit to the gaming rack.

MY son still has this problem with his 7001 model. The solution was to turn the PlayStation on first then insert the memory card. I guess it wouldn't always recognize the memory card if it was in the PlayStation before you turned it on.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm going to break my self imposed silence on the board momentarily to share some PlayStation memorabilia. I don't believe any of these have been seen before. Now that we are 2 generations beyond these I guess the coast is clear :)

Please don't ask me publically or privately if they are for sale, they are absolutely not.

Below are a few pictures of an original PlayStation Arcade Development System. Note the JAMMA edge connector and standard SCPH-1000 output.

Next is a launch day console special edition for the SCEA launch crew, note the special decal.

Beautiful pics Jerry!!!

@PSExtreme
That looks just like mine. The disc art is exactly the same, but i'm not remembering that 2player logo on my manual, but that doesnt mean anything, i'm sure its on mine too. I can ask my mom to check my stuff (since its 2200 miles away from me at the moment) and i'll have Dangerboy check his.

See if your disc is the same with the big hand. I don't have a pic of the inside, but that's where I noticed a difference.

Jerry, if you ever come across an extra one give me a ring. Also, did any of the arcade Dance Dance Revolutions use PlayStation hardware?

Any 'extras' he comes across will never be sold, I dont think he's the kind of person that does that and is one that values his place of employment.

To my knowledge none of the DDR games used PlayStation based hardware. Namco and Taito used some hardware, but not Konami.....I'm pretty sure anyway.
