Anybody have this game? I played it once, and It seemed like a pretty unusual gem, but I passed it up for two SNES's w/ 7 games for $20 that didn't even work!(In case you haven't figured it out yet, I traded it in at a local Game store and got $40 for 'em :))

I used to own it back when the Gameboy first came out.
I miss that game :( Just so damn odd.

Made by Meldac, an awesome company that coughed up other strange titles like Mercenary Force and the elusive Zombie Nation.
2 things I like about Heiankyo Alien were the advertisement art they used that featured an armored peasant beating a nasty monster with a farm implement, said monster in the process of gobbling him up. The other was the inclusion of the original arcade port that had stick figure graphics. Nowadays, the differences between the original and the 'upgraded' gameboy visuals are quaint.

I love that damn game. My aunt got it for me one year by accident, but I'll be damned if it wasn't awesome from the get go.
You're burying aliens alive. It doesn't get much more fun than that.

I owned Heiankyo Alien and Mercenary Force, but I have no idea when / how / or why I ever got them way back when... I just remember playing the hell out of them and thinking they were darned awesome.
Until this thread, I had pretty much totally forgotten about them. Time to fire up KiGB!

Yeah I definately have this game! I got it as a hand me down from my brother and I still don't understand what prompted him to buy it but I am pretty glad he did. It is a pretty good game, I remember getting into it, but it got kind of diffucult. Does anybody think that a 3-d remake of it would actually be pretty cool? Maybe another "odd" game like KD.

Heiankyo Alien - what a fantastic blast from the past. One of my favorite classic GameBoy games. It is like an overhead Lode Runner.
If you like it, check out Cratermaze for the TurboGrafx 16.

Like Heiankyo Alien? Try Boomer's adventure in Asmik world. Also similar and fun.

Heiankyo Alien on the Gameboy has really awesome music, actually. I remember there being some talk of it containing a special sound chip or something. Does anybody remember that?
I second the Boomer's Adventure and the Cratermaze recommendations, as well. Cratermaze plays a little more like TG-16 Bomberman than Heiankyo Alien, though.
I have the gameboy one. Jeez, now I feel like digging some holes.

It was fun, and I played it a lot for a whole weekend back in jr. high or something. But I dunno - I didn't think it was THAT great. There were way better titles out there for the original GB.

I figured this thread would be about the GB game. There's also a much older arcade game with the same name.

i totally abhor this game
not that i think its bad - but when i got it i hoped that it would be a vert/side scrolling shooter and instead it was a hole digging game. not that its not fun - it just bumbed me out so much that it will always have that bad memory associated with it

I used to do that to myself alot as a kid. Thank god for Gamefaqs ;) I always managed to be dissapointed when I bought games for myself as a little kid; I never read the back of the box...

You sure like to say "Damn" a lot, don't you? Oh, and btw, I too think that burying aliens alive is probably the coolest thing you could ever do on a pocket-sized peice of plastic :rockets:

I believe there is also a Super Famicom port.
Along with Tetris, Super Mario Land, Mercenary Force, and Dexterity, it came with my Game Boy for X-Mas of '90. I really enjoyed the game (only got to Stage 7), though I don't think anyone else in the family liked it. LOL

Well I'm glad that I could inspire some nostalgic gamers to revisit an old classic, and play it like it was the best thing ever. :)

Another decent clone: Booby Kids for the Famicom. I think it came out for some other system, too.
