What old computer games did you always want to go back and beat, whether they are old Apple, Atari, Commodore classics or just an old DOS PC game that you never got a around to finishing.
And if so, how will you got about it? Do you have a working classic computer, will you go Emu or Dosbox, or are you throwing in the towel?
Feel free to update or reply as your whims change.
I'll start. Right now I'm on an Amiga kick, and want to go back and beat Lemmings, Shadow of the Beast III, and Cannon Fodder. Both Lemmings and Cannon Fodder I've had since they came out, I just got stuck in each game. Beast III I passed on when it came out, but picked it up more recently (i.e. a couple years ago!)
I'm playing on my original Amiga 2000HD (knock on wood). I'm halfway done with Lemmings having beaten the fun and tricky levels.
Cheers,
Ben

I still haven't beaten Gizmos and Gadgets, a game we had on our school computers.

I want to go back and beat all my apogee games (Halloween Harry, Duke Nukem, Secret Agent Man, Raptor: Call of the Shadows, Boppin, etc..) But Windows XP hates them with a passion.

Hmm, that's no good. Have you looked into DOSBox (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/)? I've heard it helps out quite a bit.
For my part, I want to try out a lot of classic games, but what's absolutely killing me is that I've got Heretic II, but I don't have a good enough Windows 98/ME system to play it on. I used to have a ME system, but that's running XP now, and the 98 system probably doesn't quite meet the system specs.

I allways get the urge to hook up my original Vic-20, to play through some of the scott adams games I never did beat as a kid.
But then I remember that I have to pound on the space bar with my fist to get it to register so I never do.

Go to freearcade.com, they used to have the Scott Adams text adventures for play.

"mask of the sun" for apple and others...
used to play it in the computer lab after class, this was in the pre-save point days so i could never get all the way thru. i've gone thru the trouble of using an emu to play it but you know what? my text command instincts have vanished and i couldnt find a manual/walkthru...sadly i gave up on it.

Here's a couple off the top of my head:
Captive (Atari ST/Amiga)
Wasteland (C64)
Space Taxi (C64)
I beat Dungeon Master not too long ago, which was a big one on my list. If I do get around to beating any of the ST or Amiga stuff, it would need to be on emulation. I've still got a C64 somewhere.

I would say all of the KQ/PQ/SQ games by Sierra. Gold Rush, too. I should get off my ass and make disks for my IIGS and play those.

I spent the whole summer playing Wasteland - IMO, one of the best RPGs ever.
Phantasie 1 and 2 I played for serious lengths of time though I never won em.

Yeah I know what thats like. For all of those games too powerful for DOSbox but not powerful enough for the modern PC there's pretty much no hope in playing them at the moment without the real deal.
As for games I would like to finish, I'd have to say Ultima Underworld 2. I've almost finished that game a couple times in the last 10 years but still haven't gotten around to totally beating it. Maybe someday when I have the patience. I'd like to say that I actually beat an Ultima, those games are so long!

i'll cosign with a few others above on wasteland... i played the hell out of that on my old tandy pc (5" floppy) but eventually i got stuck on some point and couldn't figure out how to progress any further.
on the original bard's tale i got stuck in what i thought at the time was a secret one way door with no way out. still not sure if that was really the case or if i just couldn't figure out what was up.

Impossible Mission. That was the only good thing about the C64 TV Games stick if you ask I. That's definitely on my to do list (not on the stick of course, I have an honest C64 set up now).
A couple mentions of Wasteland...if you really want to finish it try to track down the solution online. It is more or less impossible without that. At the end of the game you have to split your party up completely and have each member complete some function in sequence.
If I become disabled I'm going to try to finish Phantasie. Or maybe when I retire.

Battletech Cresent Hawk's Inception and Cresent Hawk's Revenge are two games I never beat but would absolutly love to at some point. Loved playing Inception, I just never could beat it :(
Codename: Iceman kicked my ass, though I guess I should give it a go now that walkthroughs are easily available. The part where you had to pilot the submarine always kicked my ass (I could plot a kickin' rad course, though!)
And I know someone's going to remember this game and laugh at me for sucking, but Mickey's Space Adventure proved impossible for me :( I don't remember what specific part it was, but I recall the choice being obscenely obvious as what needed to be done, but for whatever reason the game just would not let me do it (the object I needed couldn't be manipulated in any way). I need to devote 10 minutes of my life to playing through that game at some point once and for all.

Heretic 2 works fine on my XP machine.
I have a partition, so I can use 98 for old games. I did this for the sole purpose of Might and Magic: World of Xeen, really.

Raptor Call of the Shadows is one of my favorite games of all times, but i only ever had the demo. I went back this summer and got the full version. Finally beat the bugger (btw, most of those appogie dos games play fine as long as you go in and shut off the sound)

To my great shame, I have to say that - although I have made it almost to the end of the game in some of these - I have never beaten them:
Ultima VII
XCom: UFO Defense
And I have never beaten Celtic Tales: Balor of the Evil Eye.
I also want to play and finish Syndicate.

I've never managed to beat Dondra for the Apple II (aka Questmaster for the C64...I think). I have it still sitting here but there's absolutely no help files whatsoever on the 'net.

Gold Rush by Sierra. Kickass game, and quite humorous. I finally gave in and let a friend show me his speed run through the game and was quite impressed. Beating Gold Rush by myself is on my "to do before I die" list (but it's a loooooong list).

Dangerous Dave and Montezuma's revenge. Now I know why I'm decent at games today -- both of these are tough as nails!

I'd love to get all the way through Zany Golf on the Apple IIgs... I can sometimes get through to the last hole, but I never finish it. Though usually I don't make it past ant hill.

Alone in the Dark, the original. For some reason I wish I could have bought the game, used to play it back in the day at a friend's house

I'll second 'Captive'. Back in the day, my copy on the Amiga got messed up late in the game (I'm only guessing it was late mind you as I've no idea how big the game was!) so I never got to finish it. I have a copy now though but would like to install it on my Amiga HD first.. if that's even possible.
