I've heard that Quadrun for the 2600 had human speech in it (basically someone saying Quadrun over and over) but I never had that game. I think the first game I ever played for a home console was the baseball game for the Atari 5200. It only had a few words from the umpire but it was there..."Strike Two"..."Strike Three...You're Out!" and such. Of course, for those that began playing with the PS1, you don't need to reply to this. LOL

Hmm. Probably Base Wars for the NES. Another baseball game, and it too only vocalized stuff like "Ball" and "OUT!"
The first game with actual sentences of dialogue that I owned was probably Altered Beast.
"Wise fwom your gwave!"
"Power UP!"
Alex Kidd in Miracle World on Mastersystem.
"i'm the miracle ball!" :)

Impossible Mission of course for the C64
"Ah... another visitor.. stay awhile.. stay.. FOREVER!"
I'd say Barbarian for the PC. Didn't have much speech, just at the start of the game when it said "Barbarian!" and a pathetic scream when you died.

I think it was one of the Gauntlet games from NES(either 1 or 2).

Do not forget SPIKE for the Vectrex released in 1983. It was probably one of the first home console game to offer speech. But I only saw it as a shop demo I think, my personnal first game with speech was Starglider for the Atari ST, the introduction sequence had great digitized human voices (for the time). I also remember being amazed by Star Wars in the arcades and all the degitized sounds from the movie...

I could say it was "Yer Out" from Intellivision Baseball, but that's probably more like the first home game that belched since thats more what it sounded like. ;)
I believe the first with true speech was Bomb Squad for the Intellivision..."They'll be looking for us!"

Not exactly human speech, but for me it was Berzerk on my Atari 5200 in the early 80's.
Chicken, fight like a robot.

I think Space Spartans was the first for me, which I played with my cousin who owned the game.

technically, it was Major League Baseball on the Intellivision, but this grade schooler had no idea it was actual speech. The Intellivoice games Space Spartans, B-17 Bomber, and Bomb Squad.

i honestly can't remember the first i actually PLAYED, were there any for the 2600 or colecovision?
the oldest one i currently own would have to be the voice enhanced games for the O2 (kc's krazy chase etc) or intellivion (bomb squad, b-17 etc).

ET Phone Home for the Atari 800. Scared the crap out of me because there is no music in the game...I'm collecting parts, I find them all, the screen goes blank and then ET pops up and screams
ET Phone Home!!!
Gave me the jibblies (http://www.hrwiki.org/index.php/Jibblies), that's for sure.

The first home game I played with speech was probably Blades of Steel on the NES. At least as far as I can remember.
The speech in Altered Beast was one of the reasons it was so cool back then. Couldn't get enough of it.

"Mat-tel E-lec-tron-ics Pre-sents.... Space! Spartans!"
I believe those were the first words uttered to me by a console game.

The Adventures of Bayou Billy. That makes me cry. #2 I think was Dune2.

The earliest I can remember is Street Fighter II's announcement of what country you were on your way to next (plus the various phrases uttered by the characters themselves).
Either that or "Se-Ga!" :)

Of course, for those that began playing with the PS1, you don't need to reply to this. LOL Ya mean Final Fantasy 10 don't count? LOL
I think it was Beach Head 2:
"Aaaugh!"
"I'm hit!"
"Medic!"
The Commodore 64 was brilliant at recreating speech samples! By the time I got Amiga everything was talking. Games like Space Ace had not only sound but full-sized video! "You can not win!"
Now I wish the games would shut up. Such lousy acting.

Impossible Mission of course for the C64
"Ah... another visitor.. stay awhile.. stay.. FOREVER!"

Double ditto! It's the first one that came to mind.
I also remember the scream if you fall down a pit.
"AhhhAAHhhAHHHhhAHhhhhhhhhh......."
I remembered it being a lot longer than it actually is, since I recently tried playing it again.

Amen to that, my brotha.
For me the first home game I owned with speech was Castlevania on the NES. It was just the unintelligible grunt whenever you take damage. It didn't really impress me. The first game with speech that impressed me was Alex Kidd and the Lost Star.

My first game was sonic the hedgehog. I know the game does not have speech but when you first turn it on and it says "SEGA", it does. I must have reset my Genesis about four times when that game first came out.

Something for NES, blades of steel, i don't remember but....
...one of the first games I ever got (first 10 or so) was Tennis for NES. We used to get a kick out of the "bleee-bloo" noises mario the ref made. "Fault" was two syllables. Of course, that's probably it in Japanese, but we didn't think of that at the time. I think that was my first game with "voices" but I'm not sure if they are voices at all. Still though, we found it quite (eye watering laughter) entertaining. Actually, I still think it's quite funny.
First: Impossible Mission
Second: Kung Fu (if you count that idiotic laughing)
On a related note, I remember screwing around with the sound test in Bayou Billy and laughing my ass off at the WO! WOO! and YO!

Almost certainly Comix Zone - PC version, however.
Does a Stratovox cab count? LOL
