I found these in the hand held section of toysrus today. They are handheld classic arcade games from MGA. The think that caught my eye is that they look like mini arcade cabs. They look so cool I had to pick a few up.

They could make nice stocking stuffers. Amazon lists them at 17.99 , but I paid 9.99 at the store.

They have pac man breakout asteroids and a few other titles.

I think you're missing the point of the "retro arcade" thing. It wouldn't be the same if they changed it.

What he meant was that MGA keeps putting out the same 5 games every six months in a slightly different "wrapper." They've been cranking out marginally different versions of these things for ten years now. I thought they were neato at first, but now whenever I see the newest-yet-tired incarnation, I just pass 'em by. LOL

Yeah, that's true. Guess I didn't think of it like that. Even though I've been seeing variations of these things since the 80's, I haven't been paying too much attention to them and proabably didn't notice how many versions there are.

No not since the 80's.. more like mid 90's.

We're talking those are the same game since about then.. just in a different shell. They are pretty far from the multiple Pacman games for example that came out in the 80's (not that they were that much superior.. but hey). :)

Speaking of which anyone seen these?

There's also a Space Invader one but by the looks of the screen it once again is the same Space Invaders game that's been on keychains and radio shack releases. LOL

I caught a glimpse of the Frogger in one of the mall based Spencers stores. Didn't look at it close enough to see they were remaking them. Definitely not going to try to check them out at the mall this weekend though.

I picked these up at Walmart around a month ago for $2 each.

Are these the same size as the Coleco tabletops that their shells are based on? O_O

Bah, those look like a korean knock off of the Coleco tabletops. Besides, 90% of what makes the Coleco games cool are the VFD screens. From the pictures the new Frogger looks like it has a static color screen with LED's behind it that light different parts of the background as you move around. Kind of like the old Mattel football and baseball games except with an overlay. LOL That's crap says I.

...if enough of those get sold all it's going to do is make a bunch of eventually crap auctions on eBay to wade through looking for the real tabletops. (kinda like the Famicone / top loader but nowhere as bad)
