Whats the difference between the 2 dif cards, I have many TG16 hu-cards and 1 pc engine card, (It's the 3.0 CD card) and it looks the same to me, why won't it work?

Also I have a PC Engine CD title Macross that says it's a "Super CD" on it but it plays fine with my 2.0 card, what gives?

Thanx all!

If I'm not mistaken, the code is the same, but the pin layout is different so they don't work between models. There's a way to mod it, though I'm unsure how to do that.

This is what you need.

A bit pricey but it will get the job done.

I still can't tell if this 3.0 card is for the TG16 or the PCE, case has a PCE logo on it but the hu-card looks like a tg16.

But I've never seen a PCE card so I dunno

Several things.

Both the US and JP HuCards have 38 pins, but pins 15,16,17,19,20,21,22,23 are reversed between the regions. On an American system, you can use an 8PDT switch to flip them and play Japanese cards. On a PC Engine though, you also need to defeat the region detection, so you need to ground pin #29 on the Hu6280 processor (this is in the Knowledge Base here) for that. There is no such detection on the US systems.

The System card you have is version 3.1, US version. It will work on a US system. The Japanese one (you can tell since it has an "HE" on the front instead of the Turbo Grafx logo) can work, but you need to do the region switch I mention above or use an adapter.

The adapter you show from egameaddiction will work but adapters are not the best option unless you are worried about keeping you system completely original (unmodded). Also note that the adapter shown only fits in the TG16, not the Duo. It would need to be cut for that.

I know people that do the mods and sell modded systems ;)

Out of curiousity, how much money are we talking to add a switch to a TG-16? I'm fairly handy with a soldering iron, so I could probably do it myself assuming the contacts aren't too delicate.

I'd be interested to, along with a "how to" :D

The way mods is on the web if you search for it. There are several ways to do it and the soldering is somewhat fine soldering to do a good job. There's a good reason you don't see lots of people doing the mods.

You can read a bit more at pcenginefx.com and searching for the web archive of the now defunct Turbo List by BT Garner (the man that brought us Implode and Meteor Blaster).
