Stare in slackjawed disbelief as I did > "DOOM" Running On IntelliVision" (http://spatula-city.org/~im14u2c/intv/doom/)

Intellivision LIVES

You're right, I don't believe it. Wow, just wow. If that's the real deal the potential of older systems is now beyond my imagination.

Impressive... but, did the intellivision really features so few colours?

If that's playable, then... wow.
I don't know what to think.

Graphics look really crappy, but still pretty cool. :)

If you look at the bottom of that page, you'll see the following text:

Last update: Apr 1, 2002.

Looks like this is just an old April Fools' joke.

It even says so right above the update. Still cool, though.

More proof that Doom is going to be the most ported game in history.

So no one has tried the binaries that are on the page there? I don't have an INTV emulator at the moment (ever since Bliss gave up on Java, Linux doesn't have much alternative) so I can't try it myself... is it just a big flashing "APRIL FOOLS" message or something?

Eww in one pic a monster is the same color as the wall...

I don't think it flashes but yes that's what the rom says when you load it up.

Heh. There was a joke about Doom for the 2600 once, too.

The screenshots there look so much better.

Do you think if someone actually did release a game that looked just like that for the Intellivision back in the day that it would have sold well? Would the gameplay have made up for the horrible blotchiness of everything, or would it have flopped? Would it have caused a swarm of controversy, too?

There's no way it would look like that if it were designed for the intelivision.

It only looks that way because it's supposed to look like the PC version approximated in a reduced color mode.

If someone were making something like doom for such an old console, they'd use solid colors for walls and monsters.

This joke version looks more like a bad 80's music video.

I don't think an Intellivision has enough memory to run that, let alone the cpu muscle. I don't think it can access that much info from a cart either.

It is just like when 3D Realms did the joke about releasing Duke Nukem Forever on Atari 2600. The fact that it showed a screenshot when they ran it proves that it was more advanced than the true DNF.

Oh my ....

I missed that completly!!

I SO am sorry about that guys!!

But wouldn't it be way cool if a programming genius actually did that ?

*sigh* ....

I think it looks pretty gnarly. If it were true (looks like it was just an April Fools joke), I don't know if it would even be playable. When looking at those screens, I can't even make out what is what.

I think the best you could hope for out of a Doom port to the INTV would end up a lot like Treasure of Tarmin... with all walls being square and all movement being restricted to 90 degree angles. At that point, it would be hard to call it Doom, but it might still be pretty fun.

Haha. I remember years ago when one of the UK games mags (I think it was C&VG) did a feature on Mario Kart for the original Gameboy in their April Issue. Had a piccie of SNES Mario Kart photoshoped to look monochrome accompanying the article.

I was well impressed, for about 20minutes, until I realised I'd be cruely lied to.

That seems pretty unplayable if it was true, that would be cool to see a demo but otherwise it should stay as an april fools joke.
