Over the weekend I made a thrift find I was unable to pass up... a complete in box 32X, with all hook-ups and documentation, including Doom (loose) and Virtua Racing (complete) for $16.50.

I'm pretty happy with the find, but I'm curious... are there any good 32X games out there? Looking through the DP list, the library seems to be mostly 2D fighting and sports-type games, neither of which is my favorite genre. In fact, the only really interesting sounding titles I noticed were Knuckles Chaotix and Zaxxon Motherbase 3000 (if only for the Zaxxon name). Any other 32X titles I should be looking for?

The 32X library /is/ limited, but hey, there were only about 20-30 games total for it, right?

My suggestions:

Knuckles Chaotix
Space Harrier (Arcade perfect!)
Kolibri

And for fighting games, Virtua Fighter, and either Mortal Kombat II or Primal Rage. Afterburner is supposedly arcade perfect too, though I can't vouch for it and it seems to be a little more scarce than Space Harrier. I have to suggest at least -one- fighting game, just to showcase the system. It's up to you, though.

I have to recommend Star Wars Arcade as well. It pops up in just about every Salvation Army I've ever been to, so it shouldn't be too hard to find, and I personally like it better than most Star Wars games. Plus you gotta love Admiral Ackbar's Jersey accent. "DESTROY ENEMY FIGHTAS!"

My 32x is nearly totally dedicated to playing that game. Especially now that I have Shenmue II for Xbox and I can play Space Harrier on that. I have doom and I like it, but the 3-d movement makes me nauseous like no other game.

Make sure to get Virtua Racing. It's one of my all time favorite racing games.

Virtua Fighter, a 12 pack, and friends who need a good laugh. :)

The Star Wars game is really the shining star of the system. There are a few other titles that I liked:

T-Mek: Pretty good port of the arcade head to head tank game.

Star Trek Acadamy: Kobiashi Maru!

Mortal Combat 2: Damned near perfect.
