ive been trying to find a magazine interview i read i belive 2 years ago

i dont remeber what magazine it was -- also it is possible that i read it online

i think it was an interview showcasing the latest game by either creator or programmer (mabey its the same guy) of the mortal kombat series

there was a large section of the article talking about the early days of Mk and inparticular MKII - in that section he was talking about how he was surprised that MKII on the snes was considered the best version - he went on to say that it was actualy the worst one and listed a bunch of reasons - he was saying that the best one was the 32X version (i dont think he mentioned saturn or ps1 in that interview --also gameboy and game gear)

im trying to find it hopeing to re-read it - to remeber what it was he said about the snes and genesis

i remember he said that he was the main programer of MK2 and worked on all the ports -- but i also think that the article mentioned he was the creator

does anyone remeber an interview like this? does anyone know a location on line where it is stored

i looked up Ed boon and couldnt find such an article - also the name Ed Boon does not look familiar so i dont know if the interview was with him

lastly im not exactly sure about the time line of the article - if it was featureing the first PS2/Xbox mortal kombat game or the second one

I know i havent provided much information but im hopeing someone here remembers reading an article that mentioned the snes mkii version was the worst.

I don't know the article you speak of, but another name to try is Tobias (John Tobias I think, but searching for "Mortal Kombat" and "Tobias" at the same time should get you the right name either way).

There's a younger guy who's taken over MK partly I think, but I'm not coming up with a name...

The original core MK Team was Ed Boon and John Tobias. Tobias and a bunch of other guys left around the time of MK4 and formed their own company later on - they made that Tao Feng game for XBox. Boon stayed with Midway and has worked on all the MK games to date.

If that's accurate, my guess is that it's just marketing spin. The SNES version is far and away the best one of all. The 32X port appeared later on, so it's possible that he was glowing about it because it was released near the time of the article. Either that, or he never played it. LOL

arcade antics - ok now that helps me some more -- i think it was actualy an article showcaseing tao feng and i think it was in the xbox magazine - I had a feeling it was showcaseing some other game but my memory about it was bad.

hopefully my firend has kept all his xbox mags - i chucked mine a while back

but at least i think i know where i can find it now.

I don't care what anyone says. I've played MKII on every system but Playstation and by far the best package is on the SNES. The Saturn port could have been great had they put more time into it. The 32X version was a marginal improvement over the Genesis version.

It was in a magazine a few (many) years back, the interview was with Ed Boon. I might still have it somewhere, i'll look around tonight. I don't exactly remember which 'zine it was in, but i know it wasn't one i subscribed to, it was one i picked up at the grocery store.

I remember reading an interview with one of the MK guys a year or two ago, I'm sure the article is still online...I think it was in a newspaper's online edition, for some reason. I'll check that out...

I have no idea where I read it, but I do know that at least one of the designers doesn't think the SNES version is great. I've read or seen an interview where they say the SNES version looked closer to the arcade but that the Genesis version played better (an opinion I actually agree with as well). If the 32x version is just the Genny version in a prettier dress, than I guess it could be considered to be the best from them, at least at the time.
