Edit: Question Answered.

Edit: I have some more questions, PSP wise.

Can you DOWNGRADE from 2.0 to 1.5? I don't think so, but can you? (Sorry if you find the question annoying)

How do you upgrade from one version to the next?

If you have a 1.5 PSP, and own a game that you want to play on PSP but it "requires" 2.0 or greater (And you do NOT want to upgrade from 1.5 to 2.0) How do you work around this (Other than using a differant PSP)?

Thanks to everyone who has replied to my other questions.

Last Subject Title: Not Answered - PSP - Differances between 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0?

Edit: What are the differances between the software versions? 1.0, 1.5, And 2.0 (And whatever other ones i might have missed) I know that you can play Emulators on 1.5, but not on 2.0. What can you do on some that you can't on others?

And, thank you to everyone who has replied so far.

Edit: I am thinking about what games to buy. I thought "Burnout Legends, Kingdom Of Paradise, and Popolocrois" However i want your opinions on these games. Thanks in advance.

Secondary Subject Title: Answered. "How much music can a PSP 256 Mem. Card hold?

Edit: I want to know how much music that the 256 megabyte card can hold. Please answer!

Subject Title: Help needed! What Should I buy? Must Know by 10PM Tomorrow!

Ok, i'll try to not start topics within 24 hours of the last one in the same forum again, but this is necessary.

Since i wrote the 360 off of my list, (Not buying one) I was wondering.. What am i going to buy.

I thought about buying a GBASP2, since it has such a bright, clear screen and i want to play Warioware in the highest quality. Please do not suggest that i get a micro - I will get a micro when the price comes down, but until then, no.

Then, i thought about buying a PSP. However, i need to know what games there are that i'd like to play on the PSP, and wether i should buy a Giga Pack or a value pack. Here are my requirements on the PSP what i like, and several questions:

What Type Of games I Like:

Skateboarding Games, Adventure Games, Puzzle Games, RPGs, Racing games, Shooter games (I'm thinking of James bond shooters) And, possibly, Emulated Games

My Requirements:

Game Must hold my interest, So i will not sell game after first play.

Questions:

How much music can the 256 and 512 memory cards hold? I'm looking for at least 80 minutes of music plus game saves.

How long does the battery last once fully charged?

Is there a battery that i could buy that will last longer?

How much memory do the Emulators take up? (Playing SMB on a Non-Nintendo system would be interesting)

Please reply - I only have so much time! I must know wich system to buy by 10:00 PM Tomorrow.

EDIT: Will settle for a memory card that will hold at leats 80 Minutes of music.

Yes, i own a DS. I have 2 games for it (Currently) Although i am geting 2 more soon.

And Jonny_Rock, i'll look into lumines.

Edit: Problem Not Solved. Still Wondering Wich System To Buy, and (If i buy a PSP) What games to buy, and wich memory card.

And, just to avoid confusion, I already own a Xbox, PS2, GC, and an Original GBA.

depends on the mp3 bitrate

Thanks, but i'd still like an idea of how much music i'll have. One hour? 2 hours? half an hour?

Please, just give me the shortest amount of music time on a 256 memory card, so i can get an idea of how much music i'll be listening to.

256mb holds slightly under 80 mp3s at 128kbs bitrate, assuming each are around 3mb, so that makes it about 4hrs worth. The psp battery lasts about 4 hours max playing games. So i guess the it will last maybe 9-10 hours for mp3s.

One song. It will be that long ass version of Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd.

It all depends on the bit rate, but I fit around 45 songs (about 3 hours/180 minutes of music) in 250 MB. That was at a bit rate of 192 KBPS, and all those songs were around 4 minutes long each.

If you record at 128 KBPS, you should be able to get around 5 hours of songs on the PSP. Saves really don't take up much room (1/2 an MB is the biggest save size I saw).

However, be warned that 256 MB card isn't really 256 MB; it's more like 225 or something like that of real available space.

I got a PSP a few weeks ago and got Burnout shortly after...here's my take:

I had purchased Burnout 3 for the first time only a month or so before I got my PSP and didn't realize that Legends is about 90% the same game as Burnout 3. That is a good and bad thing - obviously I'd rather have all new content, but I was truly shocked that it really looks and feels very much like the console versions and it's on a portable.

Legends has a few quirks and bugs, and upon close inspection there are some graphical differences and missing effects, but if you love the Burnout series this game will not disappoint.

The PSP truly is an amazing little device and it never fails to draw oohs and aahs from everyone that I show it to.

Burnout Legends: Excellent title, definitely worth getting if you enjoyed Burnout 3 on any of the home consoles. Load times can be a pain sometimes, and the smaller screen makes the fast action tough to see on occasion, but those reasons shouldn't sway you from a purchase. It's one of the four PSP titles I personally own.

Kingdom of Paradise is kinda like the PSX's Legend of Legaia in some respects, as it's an RPg/fighter kind of game. I have not personally played it yet, but it's been getting some pretty decent review scores (http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/924641.asp). I'd say if you find the premise of an RPG with fighting moves (which you can learn more of and power up existing ones), then you'll enjoy it. I will say that the cover art is pretty nasty looking, though. :)

PoPoLoCrois is just a basic RPG, from what I can gather. I've also not personally played this one either, but it's not performing very well on the review circuit (http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/924639.asp). The two recently released RPGs are more old-school in their look and feel(the other being Legend of Heroes), but if you're going to get either one of them, just expect average games so you won't be disappointed.

There are a variety of minor differences, but the big 2.0 change was the official web browser. Plus alot of these newer games "require" 2.0 (which can be worked around). If you want to emulate stick to 1.5, you can web browse with Wipeout Pure. I bought the PSP so I could play console-quality games on the road; thus I update with every new release and haven't looked back.

You can downgrade from 2.0 to 1.5 with an application that was created for this purpose. It may very well be safe to do, but when I was browsing the forums of one of the psp hacking websites, I heard the term "bricking your PSP" far too frequently, so be sure you know what you are doing before you try this. If you mess up the firmware you can permanently ruin your PSP.

I believe that there are also utilities that you can install that "fool" the software into thinking you are running a later firmware version. Of course, if you are going to do this you won't be able to play any of the newer games until someone releases the patch for the game.

You might want to check out THIS LINK (http://psp-news.dcemu.co.uk/) for more information. They have a pretty good FAQ, overview of the emulators and homebrew software, and a pretty active forum.

You can downgrade from 2.0 to 1.5. I just did it myself for the first time this weekend for a friends PSP. Wasn't that hard. Just a matter of placing the right files in the right folders. As long as you follow the directions carefully (I used the downgrade tutorial and tools from PSPUpdates.com), you shouldn't have any problems.

I think most of the bricking is done by people who confuse the MP_Root folder with the root directory on the PSP. A lot of people put one of the downgrade files in there by accident and it'll cause the PSP to brick when you try downgrading. I almost did this myself but luckily caught my mistake just in time.

Oh, and about working around the problem of playing 2.0 games on a 1.5. If you have the .ISO and the Freeloader application, you can play most games on 1.5. Newer titles like SOCOM and GTA require you to have 2.0 on your PSP to play them though. Not a problem since you can downgrade/upgrade your PSP firmware between the two versions.

Thanks. This helps me out a lot. You might have saved my (Soon to own) PSP! Thanks!
