Because I've been wanting a JPN N64 for a while but not knowing this has been standing in the way. Will there be compatability issues with the US games running on it? Do US games play directly on it? (Or will it run any different at all than if it was a US n64?) And will needing an adapter to plug it into my US electrical outlet cause it to play different?

I'm pretty sure it'll run off the US current, but if you want to make sure, just plug your US adapter into the back, easy!

If I remember right, US games should play on it; there are tabs in the bottom of the US N64 that prevent Japanese games from being loaded in, but I don't believe there's a precaution in reverse :)

So those big power plug are interchangeable you reckon? Just want to be safe, don't wan to fry a N64 like some cheap famiclone. Also putting a US n64 game into a JPN one, the games won't run at different speeds like PAL right?

Well, if you got a Japanese N64 you could take a look at the input-output schematic on the bottom of the transformer which plugs right into the back of the '64.

That said, many forumers use their japanese systems on US currents, no worries.

you really needed to ask the technical society here..
anyway, you can use the japanese adaptor in the us no problems at all, power is not an issue.

i have not seen a japanese n64, but i can tell you this for sure:
if a us cart goes in properly, itll work properly (all will). and if it doesnt, you can modify the tabs in the cartridge slot so it will.

truthfully, the only technical difference between a japanese 64 and a us one, is the plastic bit inside the cart slot.

I've got both the US blue/yellow and JAP orange/yellow Pokemon/Pikachu 64's and the JAP will run on US current no problem, you just have to open it up and cut off the tabs that stop the US carts from sliding into the cartridge slot.

I don't doubt that you could use an US ac adapter on the Japanese system. But, as mentioned, check the little schematic.
